Van Bronckhorst career as boss 'over' if he goes to Liverpool

The former Rangers boss has emerged as a surprise candidate to join Arne Slot's backroom team at the Premier League champions after John Heitinga vacated to take on the top job at Ajax. The Reds manager looks set to turn to another fellow Dutchman in van Bronckhorst, who has been working in the media since leaving Besiktas last November. Former Dutch footballer Hans Kraay Jr reckons the 50-year-old will be calling time on his career as a boss if he does accept the job. In his column for Voetbal International, he wrote: "At Feyenoord, apart from his first period, when he needed Dick Advocaat to keep himself in the saddle, he revealed that he quite enjoyed being a head coach. Read more: "In any case, if you are at a club that often wins, it is a much more enjoyable job than being a coach at RKC or Almere. "But in Feyenoord's championship year, with all the stress that comes with being a coach, he was quite relaxed, open and jovial towards us. "The championship helped a lot, of course. After that, Van Bronckhorst spread his wings and left for Rangers. After a good start, it became quite stressful there. "It was the same story at Beşiktaş. He won the Super Cup before the season, but was then hounded by the critical Turkish press. "I think this assistantship to Arne Slot means the end of his career as head coach, and also of the life in which you spend 168 hours a week on football."

Ex-Rangers boss 'close' to surprise new job with EPL giants

The Dutchman spent just under a year in charge at Ibrox, leading the club he turned out for as a player to the 2022 Europa League final. Read more: Liverpool are now 'close' to appointing Van Bronckhorst to their backroom staff, claims The Athletic. He will replace his fellow countryman John Heitinga, who recently left Anfield to take on the role of head coach at Eredivisie outfit Ajax. Van Bronckhorst spent a brief spell in charge of Besiktas after leaving Rangers before taking up a role on UEFA's Executive Committee. He now appears set to move to Liverpool as the club looks to build on a title-winning campaign. Speaking in April of this year, Van Bronckhorst was asked whether he'd like to become the permanent manager of Rangers once again: "No," he said live on TNT Sports. "For me, that book is closed. "Maybe as a fan, but no." Rangers recently appointed Russell Martin as the club's new head coach following a change of ownership this summer. He officially got down to business earlier this week ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Ajax leading race to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Viteslav Jaros on loan

Ajax are leading the race to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Viteslav Jaros on loan. The Premier League champions are allowing the 23-year-old to leave this summer after he made just two appearances last season. A number of clubs across Europe have expressed a strong interest in taking Jaros for the 2025-26 campaign and talks are ongoing as all options are considered. Advertisement Ajax, who are now managed by former Liverpool assistant John Heitinga, hope to bring in the Czech Republic international as they continue to rebuild following a late collapse in the race for the Eredivisie title. Heitinga knows Jaros well after spending a season at Anfield during the title-winning campaign. Jaros made one Premier League appearance when he replaced the injured Alisson in a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace in October. He was keen to play regular football last season but was kept around as the third-choice goalkeeper to provide cover. Liverpool have revamped the goalkeeping department this summer by selling Caoimhin Kelleher to Brentford. Giorgi Mamardashvili will return from a loan spell at Valencia to start pre-season with the first team, and fellow new signing Armin Pecsi, 20, will compete with Harvey Davies, 21, to provide backup.

Liverpool star to follow John Heitinga to Ajax as the former Reds assistant bids to rebuild Dutch giants after leaving Anfield

Ajax want Liverpool goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros on loan. The Czech Republic international, 23, is well known to Ajax coach John Heitinga after working with him last season. Heitinga, a former Everton defender, arrived at Anfield last summer and served as Arne Slot 's No 2 throughout their Premier League-winning campaign before agreeing to become Ajax boss at the end of last month. Jaros, meanwhile, signed for the Reds as a 15-year-old but only made his Premier League debut this term after replacing the inured Alisson Becker in a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace. The stopper, who earned his first cap for his national team in March last year, has had spells on loan with St Patrick's Athletic, Notts County, Stockport County and sturm Graz. The Premier League champions moved quickly to bolster their goalkeeping unit after the sale of Caoimhin Kelleher by bringing in 20-year-old Hungarian stopper Armin Pecsi from Puskas Akademia. With the arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili following a loan spell at Valencia, first team opportunities are likely to be even harder for the Czech keeper to come by. In May, Heitinga agreed a two-year contract and replaces Francesco Farioli, who departed the club after a single season in charge. The moves confirmes the 41-year-old's fourth stint in Amsterdam, having enjoyed two spells at the club as a player and a brief stint in charge of the senior side in 2023.
