KL Youth Force, trainee allowance proposed at Youth Assembly

PUTRAJAYA: The establishment of the Kuala Lumpur (KL) Youth Force, a minimum allowance for industrial trainees, and stricter enforcement on the placement of foreign nationals were among key proposals raised during the inaugural Federal Territories Youth Assembly (Sidang Belia Wilayah Persekutuan – SBWP), which concluded today. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the KL Youth Force aims to support disaster victims in the Federal Territories, particularly in welfare-related crises such as floods and fires. 'Although similar structures already exist, such as Rakan NADMA (National Disaster Management Agency volunteers), the KL Youth Force needs further study. If it involves welfare matters, it must follow proper standard operating procedures (SOPs),' she said. On the proposal for trainee allowances, Dr Zaliha noted that while the government sector already provides such support, the call was to expand this to the private sector. 'Some private companies do provide allowances, but there's no clear policy. I intend to discuss this with Human Resources Minister Steven Sim for further consideration,' she added. She was speaking at a press conference after winding-up session of the three-day assembly, which began on June 21. A total of 15 resolutions were presented, covering areas such as the economy, social development, technology, and legislation. Asked whether the proposals would be brought to higher levels, including Cabinet discussions or the 2026 Budget planning, Dr Zaliha said all approved resolutions would be submitted to the Federal Territories Department (JWP) for follow-up. 'For matters beyond my portfolio under the Ministerial Functions Act 1969 (Amendment 2023), I will refer them to the Cabinet for consideration by the relevant ministers. 'JWP will also coordinate with the respective ministries to monitor the progress of these proposals, ensuring the efforts of the youth assembly members are not in vain,' she said.

Dr Zaliha: JWP, agencies committed to implementing Kembara Diraja

KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa has directed the Department of Federal Territories (JWP) and all agencies under it to coordinate the implementation of the Kembara Diraja (Royal Tour), as decreed by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia. In a statement on her Facebook page, she said the tour would provide an opportunity for His Majesty to personally engage with the people across the three Federal Territories and distribute zakat aid to those in need. Yesterday, Sultan Ibrahim announced that he would embark on the Kembara Diraja across the Federal Territories to observe the people's living conditions firsthand and distribute zakat to the poor and the eight eligible asnaf groups. His Majesty made the remarks during the 2025 Investiture Ceremony held in conjunction with his official birthday at Istana Negara yesterday. Dr Zaliha said JWP also fully supports His Majesty's emphasis on the need for civil servants to uphold the principle of Loyalty to the King and Country, which aligns with the Harmoni work culture introduced in the Federal Territories as a foundation for good governance. "As a policy-implementing body, JWP personnel will remain committed to enhancing the delivery of public services that are efficient, with integrity and people-oriented, in line with the spirit of Malaysia Madani," she said. – BERNAMA

Delayed Residensi Kecapi project completed after decade

KUALA LUMPUR: The long-delayed Residensi Kecapi redevelopment project in Sentul, stalled for nearly a decade due to various challenges, has now been fully completed and will benefit its original residents who have long awaited a fair resolution. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said 136 original owners and eligible heirs can finally breathe a collective sigh of relief as they will receive their residential units at RM42,000 each - far below the current market price of RM200,000 per unit. 'This is proof that the government always prioritises the people's interests, especially the low-income group. More importantly, it reflects our commitment to transparency and justice. 'A special audit team involving the Federal Territories Department (JWP), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), and the developer conducted on-site verifications to validate the status of original owners and rightful heirs,' she said in a Facebook post today, after officiating the completion of the project this morning. Also at this morning's event, she launched the Bintang Cemerlang 2.0 Programme, a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative by YTL and UCSI University, aimed at helping pandemic-affected students - particularly in recovering basic literacy and numeracy skills - across 23 primary schools near the People's Housing Project (PPR) in Sentul. Dr Zaliha said the effort aligns with the Ilmu @ PUJI initiative in the Federal Territories, which ensures no community is left behind in accessing quality education, and welcomed greater industry participation to contribute towards high-impact social programmes for a more inclusive society. 'Developing this city is not solely the government's duty but a shared responsibility among all stakeholders. We are not building this city for people to live in, but fostering unity and appreciation for every layer of society. 'We plan the future not for a select few but for all in need. This is the true MADANI spirit we champion,' she added.
