US airlines suspend flights to UAE and Qatar

Iraqi News9 hours ago

Dubai (IraqiNews.com) – The escalating conflict between Iran and Israel is putting Gulf countries—including Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar—at heightened risk, leading to widespread disruption in regional air travel.
In response to growing security concerns, American Airlines has suspended its daily flights between the United States and Doha, Qatar, after the U.S. embassy in Doha advised citizens and diplomatic staff to remain vigilant and maintain a low profile.
As Washington mulls whether to assist in the war, satellite data indicates that dozens of U.S. military aircraft are no longer visible on the runway at a key American airbase in Qatar. This might be a preventative measure to protect the aircraft from prospective Iranian missile attacks.
United Airlines also halted its daily route between Dubai and Newark Liberty International Airport, pledging to resume operations when conditions improve.
Air France-KLM and Air Canada have canceled several flights this week to destinations across the Gulf, including Riyadh, Dubai, and Doha, amid the deteriorating security environment.
Meanwhile, flights to and from Iraq remain suspended by airlines such as Emirates, flydubai, Middle East Airlines (MEA), and others, as Iraqi airspace remains closed due to the ongoing regional threat.

Chinese Researcher Dr. Victor Gao: Whatever Iran Is Doing Is justified; If Countries Join the War Alongside Israel, Don't Exclude the Possibility That Major Countries Would Join Iran

Dr. Victor Gao, vice chairman of the Center for China and Globalization, warned in a June 19, 2025 appearance on Al-Jazeera Network (Qatar) that if countries enter the war to fight against Iran on behalf of Israel, they should not exclude the possibility that other countries might militarily intervene in support of Iran. Gao described the war as an 'unjustified' war of aggression imposed on Iran. He stated that if the United States chooses to join Israel and 'become an aggressor against Iran,' history would judge it accordingly. Gao added that China's position is 'very clear,' Israel initiated a war against a UN member, and China 'deplores' Israel's attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, calling it a 'very serious offense against world peace and security.' Gao said: 'Whatever Iran is doing is justified.'

Iraqi Counter-Terrorism launches operation against ISIS in Kirkuk

Shafaq News/ Iraqi counter-terrorism forces launched a targeted military operation in southern Kirkuk on Friday, destroying ISIS hideouts in a rugged valley long used as a base by the group. A security source told Shafaq News Agency that elite units from the Counter-Terrorism Service, backed by air support, conducted a field operation in Wadi al-Shay, within the Daquq district, south of Kirkuk, destroying several ISIS shelters used for movement and concealment. No casualties were reported among Iraqi forces, according to the source, who noted that further preemptive operations will continue in Wadi al-Shay and surrounding areas to sever supply lines and deny the militants haven. Wadi al-Shay is one of the most challenging terrains in southern Kirkuk, with dense vegetation and interwoven hills. It has served as a strategic hideout for ISIS remnants since the group's territorial defeat. The valley has seen repeated operations since 2018 by the Counter-Terrorism Service and Rapid Response Forces. Its location — linking Kirkuk with the Hamrin Mountains and stretching toward Diyala and Saladin provinces — makes it a critical corridor used by militants to move and launch attacks.
