BBC Breakfast boss takes ‘extended leave' after bullying claims

The editor of BBC Breakfast, Richard Frediani, is taking an extended period of leave after allegations of bullying behaviour. It comes after the Sun and Deadline reported that an internal investigation is being carried out into allegations of bullying at the program. In March, Deadline reported that a minimum of two misconduct complaints had been made against Frediani. One complaint alleged that the editor physically shook a colleague during an interaction in the newsroom in 2024. More recently, Deadline also reported that BBC presenterNaga Munchetty had raised concerns with senior BBC figures regarding Frediani's conduct. In addition, some ITN employees were said to have described Frediani as a 'bully,' alleging that he had shouted at, sworn at, and intimidated colleagues. Sources told the outlet that multiple complaints had been submitted by staff members about his workplace conduct. The publication further reported that newsreader Tina Daheley had expressed reservations about working on News at One, a programme overseen by Frediani. She had originally been named as one of the bulletin's presenters before its relocation from London to Salford in May. Daheley has continued in her role as a newsreader on Radio 2 in London and was reportedly 'understandably very cross' when her photograph was omitted from a BBC press release about the scheduling changes. While the omission added to internal frustration, there is no suggestion that Frediani was responsible for the error. When contacted for comment, a BBC spokesperson told Metro: 'While we do not comment on individual cases, we take all complaints about conduct at work extremely seriously and will not tolerate behaviour that is not in line with our values. 'We have robust processes in place and would encourage any staff with concerns to raise them directly with us so they can be addressed.' It was also previously reported BBC presenters Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt had no relationship with Frediani due to the allegations. Frediani has been named in reports about bullying behaviour at ITN and BBC by Deadline, an industry website, and it was then claimed that he has a soured relationship with the BBC presenters. More Trending A senior BBC figure in Salford has said that he has 'no relationship with the stars'. 'Fredi has no relationship with Charlie and Naga, which is weird when they are half of his frontline presenting roster,' the source told The Times. Frediani has been the head of the program, which is broadcast daily from Salford, since 2019, and is also editor of the News at One. Last month, he accepted a Bafta Award when the show won best TV news coverage for an episode about the Post Office scandal. Got a story? Lorraine Kelly teases new project as co-star asks 'where have you been'

Lorraine Kelly, 65, was quizzed by her ITV co-star Ross King on Monday's show after she returned to the programme following a brief absence as she addressed her whereabouts Lorraine Kelly found herself explaining her recent absence from her ITV chat show during Monday's episode. In the latest segment, Lorraine, 65, shared with her audience: "Our Ross is in Los Angeles for us, later Ross. Crikey, it's tough times over there..." ‌ Ross King, reporting live from LA, chimed in: "It certainly is, real tough times, terrible rioting. I'll tell you more about that later." ‌ He then inquired: "Apart from all that, what about you, where have you been?" Lorraine replied: "Oh I've been in the far north, I've been so far north I nearly came back on myself. I'll tell you all about it. "I sadly can't say too much about it now. In a few weeks, I might be able to give you more hints. I can even show you some photos, it was life changing and amazing. I'll phone you later and tell you all about it." This follows Lorraine's announcement earlier in the month where she told fans and viewers: "BIG FILMING ADVENTURES!!!! Heading to the very far north - it's going to be amazing - see you in a week's time! #happy #arctic #filming #adventures #exploration #joy", sharing she would be having a brief break from Lorraine. The conversation comes amid ITV's announcement last month of significant changes to the scheduling and production of its daytime programmes, which include a major revamp for Lorraine's show. ‌ From January 2026, Good Morning Britain will be extended by half an hour to run from 6am to 9.30am daily, and will be produced by ITV News at ITN at their Gray's Inn Road base in London. Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women will still be produced by ITV Studios and will be broadcast from a new location in central London. ‌ In the 2026 daytime schedule for ITV, Lorraine will air from 9.30am to 10am, on a seasonal basis for 30 weeks of the year which aligns with the lead daytime presenters who host their shows around a seasonal pattern rather than throughout the year. During the weeks when Lorraine is not on air, Good Morning Britain will run from 6am to 10am. This Morning will keep its 10am to 12.30pm slot on weekdays throughout the year, while Loose Women will occupy the 12.30 to 1.30pm slot, again on a seasonal basis for 30 weeks of the year - the schedule it held for over a decade until 2016.

Richard Madeley reveals grisly injury live on air after horror fall

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Richard Madeley has shared a grisly injury he sustained, after appearing live on Good Morning Britain wearing a cast. The 69-year-old was hosting the Monday morning edition of the programme alongside Susanna Reid, 54, when she asked him about the cast wrapped around his right wrist. Richard explained he had a double fracture after taking a tumble while in France last week. Susanna told Richard he 'better explain' at the start of the early morning programme, adding that the injury 'looked sore'. Richard replied: 'It's a double fracture of the wrist. 'I was walking quite quickly down a steep pavement in France on Friday, and the pavement was loose and it flipped up and it flipped me forward. 'I thought, am I going to win or is gravity going to win? And gravity won. 'I hit the ground hard, so yeah, I've got a double fracture and we'll see how it goes.' Susanna then went on to ask her co-host how much the pain of the break was bothering him, to which he replied: 'I'm not discussing the pain threshold, we just don't think about pain.' Richard went on to bravely front the programme alongside Susanna, as they discussed Greta Thunberg's aid boat being stopped by Israeli forces and anti-immigration raid protests in Los Angeles. He also went on to interview Jim Moir, also known by his stage name Vic Reeves, who demonstrated his skill at making his bed in eight seconds. Richard congratulated him with 'one hand clapping' due to the wrist injury. Good Morning Britain viewers took to X to comment on Madeley's injury, with @wrinklytimelord writing: 'Awww Madeley has an owie.' @topham_cheryl wrote: 'Is Richard channeling his inner Keith lemon this morning with his bandage?' @AlanCortes echoed: 'Is doing a Keith lemon wrist bandaged.' More Trending This comes amid huge upheaval at ITV, with Good Morning Britain now set to run from 6am to 9:30am amid cuts to the broadcaster's daytime TV slate. GMB will now reportedly be produced by ITV News at ITN and include more 'regional news, agenda-setting investigations, exclusives, and analysis of the biggest stories of the day.' Additionally, with Lorraine set to become a seasonal programme, GMB will fill the slot entirely and run from 6am to 10am. View More » Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV. Got a story?
