Did Virat Kohli Take Subtle 'Impact Player' Dig At Rohit Sharma? Internet Ponders

Last Updated: Virat Kohli's statement about not wanting to play as an impact player but making an impact as a fielder has fans speculating if it's a dig at Rohit Sharma. Ace India batter Virat Kohli's statement that he doesn't want to play as an impact player and rather make an impact as a fielder during the 20 overs has left fans online wondering if he took a subtle dig at Rohit Sharma, who played as an impact player throughout IPL 2025 for the Mumbai Indians. Kohli, who has been the face of the team since its initial years, could not hold back his joy after Bengaluru edged out the Punjab Kings by just six runs in a nerve-racking final. Kohli was interviewed by Matthew Hayden after the game, where the former discussed in detail the win and his future with Bengaluru. Kohli remains the only cricketer to have played for a single team since the tournament's inception, and Kohli said that he wants to give everything on the field for Bengaluru until his last game. 'Well, I have an opportunity to play this game for not many years. So there is an end date to our career, as you know. And by the time that I hang up my boots, I want to sit at home and say I gave it everything I had," Kohli said. 'So I look for ways to improve. I cannot play as an impact player. I want to field 20 overs and make an impact in the field. That is the kind of player I have been. And God blessed me with that perspective, with the talent," Kohli added. Rohit, one of the Indian Premier League's leading names and the second-highest run-scorer, has been used as an impact player in IPL 2025. 'Nobody wants to play as an impact player. MI management forced Rohit Sharma to play as an impact player," a fan tweeted in the wee hours of Wednesday. 'Virat Kohli: I don't want to play as an impact player, I want to field for 20 overs. Subtle. Very subtle," another fan tweeted. Virat Kohli: I don't want to play as an impact player, I want to field for 20 Very subtle. — Suraj Balakrishnan (@SurajBala) June 3, 2025 Kohli's moist eyes melted hearts just after Josh Hazlewood had bowled his second ball of the 20th over, and when a choked Virat Kohli kissed the Motera turf, there could have been a million teary-eyed fans who had waited for this day just like their hero. Virat Kohli Breaks David Warner's Record Of Scoring Most Runs In...

Last Updated: In 36 IPL matches played so far for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL against PBKS, Kohli has scored 1159 runs. Virat Kohli opened the innings for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 final currently underway at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and scored 43 runs. He faced 35 balls during his stay at the crease on Tuesday (June 3) and hammered three fours. Virat's 43-run knock helped RCB post a total of 190 runs on the board for the loss of nine wickets in the IPL 2025 final. During his 43-run knock, Kohli broke former David Warner's record of scoring the most runs against Punjab Kings in the IPL. During his playing days in the world's richest franchise cricket league, Warner played 26 runs for DC and SRH against PBKS and scored 1134 runs. On the other hand, Kohli has 1159 runs to his name in 36 matches for RCB against PBKS. By amassing a total of 1159 runs against PBKS, Kohli also broke his own record of scoring the most runs against one team in the IPL. Kohli has scored 1146 runs against Chennai Super Kings and 1159 runs against PBKS. In the IPL, Kohli has scored one century and six half-centuries against the Mohali-based franchise in the world's richest franchise cricket league. His best IPL score against PBKS is 113 runs. Kohli is the leading run scorer in IPL history, and in the ongoing season he has amassed a total of 657 runs in 15 matches for RCB. In the IPL 2025 final, Kohli added 18 runs for the first wicket with Phil Salt (16), 38 runs for the 2nd wicket with Mayank Agarawal (24), 40 runs for the third wicket with Rajat Patidar (26) and 35 runs for the fourth wicket with Liam Livingstone (25). For Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 final, Arshdeep Singh and Kyle Jamieson picked up three wickets each for 40 and 48 runs, respectively, and one RCB batter each was sent back to the pavilion by Azmatullah Omarzai, Vijaykumar Vyshak and Yuzvendra Chahal. Watch: Furious Shreyas Iyer Abuses Shashank Singh, Refuses Handshake

Last Updated: Shashank Singh left Shreyas Iyer furious after his poor running during a high-stakes Qualifier 1 clash between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians. Shreyas Iyer played the starring role as Punjab Kings recovered from an abject defeat in the first qualifier to edge past Mumbai Indians on Sunday night and punch their ticket for the IPL 2025 final. Iyer, the PBKS captain, slammed an unbeaten 87 off 41 in a successful chase of 204 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While he looked incredibly calm after hitting the match-winning six, avoiding exaggerated celebrations, he did lose his cool after spotting teammate Shashank Singh during the ritual post-match handshake. Iyer fired expletives at Shashank and asked his teammate to not engage with him. Bsdk muh mat lagna mere bc. Blud Shreyas Iyer literally said to Shashank Singh 😭🤣 — Professor Sahab (@ProfesorSahab) June 1, 2025 So what triggered the reaction? Well, Shashank had a major role. With PBKS seemingly taking control of the chase as the contest entered the death overs, Shashank ended up taking it too easy as was evident when he jogged for a single that resulted in him being run out and thus giving MI an opening. The dismissal happened off the fourth delivery of the 17th over as PBKS needed 35 to win off 21 deliveries with six wickets remaining. Having driven a low full toss from Trent Boult to mid-on, Shashank was ambling towards the non-striker's end with an alert Hardik Pandya spotted the opportunity and made a direct hit. TV umpire was pressed into action and one replay was enough to conclude Shashank, despite his late reaction to speed up, was well short of his crease. However, Iyer, in red-hot form, ensured the dismissal didn't shift the momentum as he singlehandedly took PBKS over the line. This is the first time that PBKS have qualified for the final since 2014 when they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders and were known as Kings XI Punjab. PBKS will now have just a day to recover from the contest that went late into the night thanks to a rain-delayed start before facing a red-hot RCB in the title clash at the same venue. Joe Root Becomes 1st England Batter To Score 7000 Runs In ODIs

Last Updated: In 179 ODIs played so far for England, Root has 7082 runs to his name. He is the first English batter to score 7000 runs in ODIs. Joe Root was in action for England on Sunday (June 1) in the second ODI of the ongoing three-match series against the West Indies. The 34-year-old right-handed batter from Yorkshire faced 139 balls for the Harry Brook-led side at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff and scored a career-best 166. His 166-run knock helped England chase down the target of 309 runs in 48.5 overs for the loss of seven wickets and win the match by 3 wickets. During his 166-run knock, Root entered his name in the history books by becoming the first English batter to score 7000 runs in ODIs. Root needed 84 runs on Sunday to cross the 7000-run mark, and he achieved the objective by scoring a boundary on the fourth ball of the 33rd over of England's innings bowled by Matthew Forde. Before becoming the first English batter to score 7000 runs in ODIs, Root went past Eoin Morgan's tally of 6957 runs to become the leading run getter in the 50-over format of the game for the 2019 ODI World Cup. Most runs for ENG in ODIs Root came out to bat at No. 3 for England in Cardiff and added 85 runs for the third wicket with Brook (47 from 36) and 143 runs for the sixth wicket with Will Jacks (49 from 58 balls). Root is now England's leading run getter in Tests and ODIs. The 34-year-old batter became the first English batter to score 13,000 runs in Test cricket last month. He will be a key batter for the Ben Stokes-led side in the five-match Test series against India. India will face England in a five-match Test series. The series opener is scheduled to take place at Headingley in Leeds from June 20 to 24, and the next four matches will be played in Birmingham, Lord's, Manchester and The Oval, respectively. Root has played 30 Tests for England against India so far and has 2846 runs to his name. If he manages to score 154 runs in the upcoming five matches, then he will become the first batter in the world to score 3000 runs in Test cricket against India. Watch CNN-News18 here.
