CM Revanth Reddy seeks action plan for strengthening Telangana medical colleges

Hyderabad, June 16 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy today directed officials to immediately prepare an action plan to fully equip all 34 medical colleges across the state. Emphasising the importance of strengthening the medical education infrastructure, the Chief Minister ordered the formation of a committee comprising senior officials to inspect each medical college and submit a detailed report on their requirements. The committee has been tasked with assessing the needs of each college — including infrastructure gaps, required funds, pending works, and specific assistance to be provided by the government. Reddy chaired a high-level review meeting on Monday at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) with senior officials of the Medical and Health Department, an official statement said. During the meeting, several issues raised by the National Medical Council (NMC) regarding the state's medical colleges were discussed. The Chief Minister instructed officials to prepare a comprehensive report covering recruitment in government medical colleges, promotions of teaching faculty, enhancement of hospital bed strength in college-affiliated hospitals, availability of medical equipment, and the filling of staff vacancies. He assured that the required funds from the state government would be released immediately. For any issues involving the Union Health Ministry, the Chief Minister said he would personally take them up with Union Minister J P Nadda and concerned officials to resolve them at the earliest. In a forward-looking initiative, the CM suggested introducing Japanese as an optional language in nursing colleges, citing growing demand for Indian nursing staff in Japan. He informed that the Japanese government has expressed willingness to support such efforts. To improve hospital service delivery and accountability, the CM asked officials to explore the development of a digital application to monitor patient visits, doctor consultations, and hospital timings. Stressing the importance of the education and health sectors, CM Revanth Reddy directed the Principal Secretary to conduct a joint review of both departments in the third week of every month. Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha, Principal Secretary to the Government Ramakrishna Rao, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister V Seshadri, CM's Secretary Manik Raj, Health Secretary Christiana Z Chongtu, Director of Health Dr. Narendra Kumar and other senior officials participated in the review meeting. Perfect driving record: Gurgaon's first ‘traffic champions' set an example

Gurgaon: A fine arts graduate, a 52-year-old and the son of a BJP functionary were among five city residents to be felicitated by the traffic police on Thursday. Cops scoured hundreds of hours of CCTV footage from last month to shortlist the city's first "traffic champions". Shyam Jee Bhan, Ajay, Priya, Mamta and Surender Gahlot – all of them commuters who regularly drive – were on Thursday called to DCP (traffic) Rajesh Kumar Mohan's office in Sector 28 and awarded 'letters of appreciation' because they did not violate any traffic rules all through May and never received a challan. DCP Mohan said this ceremony was part of police's new initiative – 'Drive Right, Shine Bright' – to encourage people to drive safely. Every month, police will scan footage from the Integrated City Control Centre (ICCC), which is linked to traffic cameras around Gurgaon, to search for "champions" like Bhan and Priya. "Our aim is not to generate revenue through challans but to also recognise the sincerity and discipline of those commuters who never get challaned and don't put lives at risk. They are the real traffic heroes, and everyone should recognise them and learn from them," the DCP said at the event on Thursday. He added that police will be "more than happy" if they "don't get a chance to challan anyone". Shyam Jee Bhan, a resident of DLF-2, said he was "sceptical" when he first got a call from police. "One gets cautious if the police are calling you. Eventually, I got it confirmed through a friend that Gurgaon traffic police have initiated a unique campaign, and I am among the first traffic champions here," Bhan said. The 52-year-old told TOI he moved to Gurgaon in 1998 and has always followed traffic rules. "I urge all commuters to follow traffic rules. These days, everyone wants to be ahead of others, but a little caution can avoid road rage incidents too," he said. The letter of appreciation given to Bhan commended him for not breaking any traffic rules in May, and never having a challan issued against his car. "It demonstrates outstanding discipline and civic responsibility on your part. Your conduct contributes to safer roads, smoother traffic, and sets a powerful example for fellow citizens," the award read. Priya, a 23-year-old who recently completed her BA in fine arts, also urged commuters to drive safely. The Sikanderpur resident said her parents always ask her to follow the rules. "All parents should encourage their children," she added. For Surender Gahlot, son of a BJP functionary, leaving early to reach one's destination in time does the trick. "It helps avoid speeding," he said. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Vaishno Devi shrine gets new AI-powered surveillance system with facial recognition, crowd management tools

Inaugurating a CCTV surveillance system with an integrated command and control centre for the Vaishno Devi shrine, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said the 'cutting-edge technology' would ensure a hassle-free pilgrimage, with real-time monitoring and crowd management. According to a statement, the system features AI-based analytics and features like gesture recognition, automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), facial recognition, an intrusion detection system, and crowd management tools. An integrated command and control centre (ICCC) located at Katra and seven sub-control centres along the pilgrimage route have been established for localised monitoring and coordination, ensuring 24×7 monitoring of all vulnerable and high-traffic zones and enabling prompt response to crowd build-up, security breaches and medical emergencies. Over 700 cameras have been deployed across the shrine area, including 170 new high-definition cameras and integration of more than 500 existing cameras, covering all critical and vulnerable locations, the statement said. Sinha said the AI-powered system would significantly enhance safety and security, and improve crowd control measures and operational efficiency within the shrine area. Anshul Garg, the CEO of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, gave a detailed presentation on the ICCC's technical features and expected benefits in day-to-day shrine functioning. He said the centre is equipped to generate automated alerts for crowd congestion, route blockages, landslides or other emergencies, thereby enabling swift decision-making and response. The Lieutenant Governor interacted with the engineers and operational staff at the centre, and emphasised the need for the regular training of staff and seamless collaboration with security agencies and other stakeholders to maximise the centre's utility. The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board recently provided security equipment to security agencies deployed for yatra management, including X-ray baggage scanners, door frame metal detectors, hand-held metal detectors, and under-vehicle search mirrors/scanners, to enhance security at the shrine area, in pursuance to the joint security review conducted last year on the directions of the Lieutenant Governor. Ashok Bhan, a member of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board; Bhim Sen Tuti, the IGP of Jammu; Nidhi Malik, the Deputy Commissioner of Reasi; and other senior police officers and security personnel were present on the occasion.

J-K LG inaugurates control centre in Katra to oversee tourists activities

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday launched a control centre to boost real-time surveillance on pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi to ensure their safety. The Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) has been set up at the cave shrine in Reasi district. "The security forces had conducted a joint review of the route and all aspects related to security, safety, and smooth yatra. Based on the joint suggestions made by the Police, Army, and CRPF, an Integrated Command and Control Centre has been set up here from a security perspective," Sinha told reporters in Katra. Built at a cost of Rs 20 crore, the centre will unravel "a new era of safe and seamless pilgrimage begins," he added. The ICCC has been housed at the Spiritual Growth Centre in Katra, Chief Executive Officer of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Anshul Garg said. The centre has a network of 700 CCTVs, with features like gesture recognition, facial recognition, and PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom), he said.
