HYDRAA Tackles Nala Encroachments to Stop Floods in Hyderabad Monsoon

The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has been made the main agency to handle floods in Hyderabad during the monsoon. Recently, they received 58 complaints, mostly about blocked drainage channels called nalas and illegal use of government land. People from areas like Durga Province Colony and Ameenpur said their homes flood badly because of these blockages. Langer Houz Cheruvu, a water body, has reduced in size from 36 acres to 24 acres due to illegal occupation. Other places like Maktha Mahaboobpet Cheruvu and some government lands have also been taken over illegally, with the value of this land estimated at Rs. 300 crore. Residents from Pragathi Nagar Colony reported a park was also taken over illegally. With the rainy season coming soon, HYDRAA's job is to clean drains, use pumps to remove water, work with other departments, and check drainage regularly to stop floods. The agency says clearing these illegal blockages is very important to keep Hyderabad safe from flooding.

Muslim, Christian cemetery lands reclaimed in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Thursday cleared encroachments from Muslim and Christian cemetery lands in Parvathapur, under Peerzadiguda municipal corporation limits in Medchal-Malkajgiri district. The action followed complaints raised in the Prajavani programme by members of the cemetery protection committee, alleging that the decades-old government cemetery was being encroached upon, converted into plots and sold. HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath reviewed satellite images, revenue records and conducted a field inspection before ordering the demolition of the foundations of 15 residential plots, two-metre-high fences, sheds and a few shops. Officials said the encroachments took place during the Covid-19 lockdown. Locals alleged that one Sukhender Reddy led the encroachment by using fake survey numbers and securing unauthorised permissions. He allegedly covered existing graves with soil to conceal them and sold the plots, despite the land being under dispute. His private land is in Survey No. 12, while the cemetery stands on adjacent government land in Survey No. 1. They added that Sukhender is accused of colluding with former Peerzadiguda mayor Jakka Venkat Reddy and former co-option member Jagadishwar Reddy.

HYDRA clears illegal structures from cemetery

Hyderabad: On the second consecutive day, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA) removed illegal encroachments at land near Muslim and Christian burial grounds in Parvathapur, Peerzadiguda on Thursday. These religious properties have allegedly been occupied illegally, sparking concern among local communities. HYDRA removed the foundations of 15 plots, two-metre-high fences and sheds built in it, along with three shops. HYDRA Commissioner AV Ranganath examined the complaints received in the Prajavani programme and with the Google Maps, NRSC images and revenue records, the encroachment were removed. On Wednesday, the Commissioner conducted a site inspection, following consultations with local revenue officials who confirmed the crematoriums are owned by the government. He noted that the graves were obscured by soil and not visible. The Cemetery Protection Committee representatives informed the Commissioner of their seven-year protest, during which they have approached various authorities and courts. In response, the HYDRA Commissioner has mandated a thorough investigation into all related issues and the removal of any unauthorised structures. Following the demolition, the community expressed happiness that their seven-year battle had finally yielded results, allowing them to preserve over an acre of sacred cemetery land. With growing complaints of land encroachments and layout violations, on Wednesday, the HYDRA Commissioner AV Ranganath conducted on-site inspections at Ranganath Nagar in Gopanpally, Serilingampally mandal, where residents alleged that an entire layout of 850 plots spread across 184 acres was encroached upon during the Covid-19 pandemic. The inspection continued to Aravind Colony in Chengicherla and Vikas Welfare Colony in Boduppal, Medchal district. The locals accused a former MLA of attempting to claim land as temple property and blocking registration processes in a 444-plot layout. At OU Colony in Shaikpet, Ranganath addressed reports of illegal road construction. He directed all plot owners to submit ownership documents for verification and pledged strict action against violators.

HYDRAA demolishes illegal real estate layouts in Peerzadiguda cemetery

Tension prevailed in Peerzadiguda area on Thursday, as officials from the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), moved in to demolish illegal structures built on government land designated as a minority cemetery in Kancha Parvathapur village. Following public complaints, officials demolished three illegally constructed shops, foundations for 15 residential plots and two-meter-high compound walls built within the demarcated cemetery premises. The cemetery, situated on government land for over four decades, had been encroached upon during the Covid-19 lockdown period, with plots sold, foundations laid, fences erected, and shops constructed, informed a HYDRAA official. The illegal activity, complainants said, had not only desecrated graves but also involved manipulation of legal documentation and collusion with former municipal officials. The complainants alleged that Sukhender Reddy, identified as one of the main encroachers, conspired with former Peerzadiguda mayor, Jakka Venkat Reddy and municipal co-opt member Jagdishwar Reddy to carve out the unauthorised layout. They are accused of misrepresenting government land under survey number 1 as part of their private property in survey number 12. HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath reviewed the complaints using satellite imagery, Google Maps, and official revenue records. A subsequent field visit by HYDRAA and local revenue authorities confirmed the encroachments. Following a thorough inquiry, Commissioner Ranganath ordered the removal of all unauthorised structures. Officials clarified that the action was not against ordinary citizens but against those who had illegally seized burial land with the aid of former public representatives. One of the plots was reportedly sold to one Rajinikanth Reddy, who went on to build shops and collect over ₹50,000 in monthly rent, despite knowing about the dispute.

HYDRAA clears encroachments in Peerzadiguda

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) carried out an operation to remove road encroachments in Peerzadiguda municipality of Medchal-Malkajgiri district on Wednesday. The action was taken in response to a complaint by the Yadadri Residential Welfare Association, which alleged illegal constructions on 80 plots spread over 5.20 acres in Yadadri Residential Colony. The association claimed that the encroachments were obstructing a road that connects the colony to the Warangal Highway. The encroachments were linked to the development of Sage School, reportedly being constructed by its owner Jaswanth Reddy. According to officials, Reddy had merged layout plots and connected them with a 30-foot road, violating planning norms. Encroached layouts inspected in Ranganathanagar Following complaints from the Ranganathanagar Plot Owners Association, HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath conducted a field inspection in Gopanpally village, Serilingampally mandal, based on grievances submitted during Prajavani. The plot owners stated that a layout with over 850 plots across 184 acres was established in 1985. However, during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021, a group backed by major real estate firms allegedly encroached on the entire layout, evicting original owners, razing houses, and converting the area into agricultural land with newly formed roads and parks. The victims said the case has reached the Supreme Court, which directed the high court to ensure justice within four weeks.
