Kota Kinabalu: Warisan Vice President Datuk Junz Wong rejected the Federal Government's plan to set up a one-stop labour centre in Sabah, saying what the state truly needs is its own Human Resource Ministry. 'Sabah's labour issues are not due to a 20-year delay as claimed, that's misleading. Most local employers already adhere to peninsula standards. Advertisement 'Full federal control of the Labour Department (JTK) could lead to overly harsh enforcement, harming local businesses,' he warned. He also criticised the lack of Sabah representation in the National Labour Advisory Council (NLAC), saying Sabah-based associations had long been sidelined in favour of the West Malaysia-based MEF. He noted Sabah has nearly two million workers but no dedicated state HR Ministry, despite having the highest unemployment and lowest skilled labour rates in Malaysia. Junz questioned the legitimacy of the newly-formed Sabah Labour Advisory Council being co-chaired by both State and Federal representatives. 'If Kesuma is still steering, how is this a Sabah voice?' he asked. Calling for the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) to be respected, Wong said labour matters were federalised only with the condition of state consultation, a condition now often ignored. 'Sabah doesn't just want services. We want autonomy, equity and dignity. Labour Day celebration: 10,000 expected at Axiata Arena
KUALA LUMPUR: Over 10,000 workers from both the public and private sectors are expected to attend Thursday's national-level Labour Day 2025 celebration at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, which Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will officially launch. The event, which brings together representatives from trade unions, statutory bodies, as well as public and private sector organisations, serves as a platform to honour workers' contributions in driving national development in line with the Malaysia Madani agenda. Themed 'Pekerja Kesuma Bangsa', this year's celebration recognises the vital role of workers as the backbone of the country and key implementers of the aspirations of sustainability, justice and well-being. At the event, the Prime Minister is scheduled to deliver a special address and launch the Madani Worker Card initiative along with the MyFutureJobs mobile application. Anwar will also present the Labour Day Awards to celebrate the achievements of outstanding workers, employers, trade unions and media representatives, including two new categories introduced by the Human Resource Ministry, namely the National Public Service Worker Icon Award (Senior Management) and the Best Media Agency Award. In conjunction with the celebration, various programmes are being held, including pocket talks, a Labour Day Run, a special Friday sermon, the Forum Perdana Ehwal Islam, and a career carnival offering over 10,000 jobs. - Bernama

Automation, Digitalisation Key To Strengthening Agriculture Sector
KANGAR, April 28 (Bernama) -- There is a need for the agriculture sector to be empowered with elements of automation and digitalisation in efforts to produce highly skilled young agropreneurs capable of addressing national food security challenges. Human Resource Ministry deputy secretary-general (operations) Sutekno Ahmad Belon said that, for this, the Industrial Training Institute (ILP) of Kangar is, among others, focusing on the development of agricultural automation technology, which is currently in the final testing phase of a fully autonomous, system-controlled agricultural automation machine. 'Several demonstrations of autonomous machines for plowing and other tasks were showcased today, and we can see that these developments mark significant progress,' he told reporters after the launching of the Kangar ILP Silver Jubilee here today.
