Hrishikesh Kanitkar Appointed India 'A' Head Coach For England Tour: Report
Last Updated: Hrishikesh Kanitkar has been named the head coach of India A for England tour. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly appointed Hrishikesh Kanitkar as the head coach of the India A team that'll tour England for three matches preceding a five-Test tour by the senior men's side. According to Cricbuzz, Subhodeep Ghosh of Assam (fielding coach) and Troy Cooley (bowling coach) will accompany Kanitkar, a former India and Maharashtra batter. Kanitkar has previously coached the India Under-19 and women's sides, and occasionally the senior men's side, too. India 'A' will play two First-Class matches against England Lions at Canterbury and Northampton, respectively, before participating in an intra-squad clash against the senior side behind closed doors in the lead-up to the first Test on May 20 in Headingley. The first four-day match will be played from May 30, followed by the second on June 6, and the intra-squad from June 13. The BCCI recently announced an 18-member squad, which will leave for England in batches in the coming days. Kolkata batter Abhimanyu Easwaran has been chosen to lead the contingent with Dhruv Jurel as his deputy, while Ishan Kishan will join the latter as the second frontline wicketkeeper. Shubman Gill (who many reports claim to be the next senior captain after Rohit Sharma) and his Gujarat Titans opening partner, Sai Sudharsan, will join the squad before the second four-day match. The series will be closely watched as there are several available spots on the senior side. Six players from the senior squad that played the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy — Harshit Rana, Akash Deep, Sarfaraz Khan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, and Nitish Kumar Reddy — have been picked and will be aiming to retain their place in the senior squad. The likes of Manav Suthar, Tanush Kotian and Harsh Dubey would be vying for the spin all-rounder's spot after Ravichandran Ashwin's retirement, while Khaleel Ahmed and Anshul Kamboj would want to put their name in the ring for the pacer's spots.
