Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train: In a major development in the India's first bullet train project between Ahmedabad and Mumbai a Siemens consortium has now been awarded the contract for signalling and telecom systems on the high-speed rail corridor by National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, India's first bullet train project, is currently under construction, aiming to significantly reduce travel time between the two major cities. The project is expected to be completed by 2028. The contract is for implementing advanced signalling and telecommunication systems for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train initiative. Siemens will deploy European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2-based signalling and train control systems under the contract. These systems support train speeds up to 350 km/h, provide real-time monitoring, ensure continuous wireless connectivity and offer centralised traffic control capabilities. The ETCS Level 2 signalling standard has been successfully implemented across more than 50 nations worldwide. The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) serves as the organisation responsible for executing India's first high-speed bullet train project. 'The order valued at approximately Rs. 4,100 crores, includes Siemens Limited's share of Rs 1,230 crore for the design, installation, and long-term maintenance of advanced signaling and telecommunications technologies,' according to an official statement released by Siemens Limited. The statement further said, 'The project is expected to be executed over a period of 54 months, with Siemens providing 15 years of maintenance services, ensuring lifecycle reliability.''As a consortium, we are proud to partner with National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited, in the prestigious high-speed rail project. This project reflects our commitment to 'Make in India' and delivering technologies that promote sustainable and future-ready mobility,' Sunil Mathur, managing director and chief executive officer, Siemens Limited, said.

In a major development for India's high-speed rail ambitions, a consortium comprising Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon Pvt. Ltd., Siemens Limited, and Siemens Mobility GmbH has secured a landmark contract from the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL). The total contract is valued at approximately ₹4,100 crore, with Siemens Limited's share amounting to ₹1,230 crore. The consortium will design, install, and provide long-term maintenance for state-of-the-art signaling and telecommunications systems for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor — India's first bullet train project. The execution timeline is 54 months, with Siemens also responsible for maintenance services over a 15-year period, ensuring system reliability and performance. Siemens will deploy the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2-based signaling technology, which supports train operations at speeds of up to 350 km/h. This advanced system offers real-time train supervision, continuous wireless communication, and centralized traffic control, aimed at boosting safety, efficiency, and operational excellence. Key underpass to Vadodara station to shut down for six months, starting tomorrow. Here are alternate routes
From Thursday, the Priyalakshmi mill railway underpass that connects the Western part of the city to the Vadodara Railway station as well as the Bus Station in Sayajigunj will remain closed to vehicular traffic for a period of six months to facilitate civil works on the Mumbai- Ahmedabad Bullet train project. As the work on the Mumbai - Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSRC), passing through Vadodara city, enters its advanced stage, the Vadodara city police notified the closure of the two-way underpass on Wednesday. Based on the request of the project manager of NHSRCL in a communication dated April 14, Vadodara City Commissioner of Police Narasimha Komar notified that Priyalakshmi Mill railway underpass will remain closed for a period of six months until October 31, 2025. The notification of the Vadodara city police stated, 'The civil work on the C-5 package of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor is being undertaken by L&T in Vadodara. Since the civil works have to begin on the stretch around and above the Priyalaxmi mill underpass, the said underpass will be closed for vehicular traffic from May 1, 2025 to October 31, 2025, and diversion has been recommended.' In order to ensure that there is no inconvenience caused in traffic movement, alternate diversions have been notified under the powers conferred by the Gujarat Police Act, 1951, to alter rules regarding regulation of traffic. The police notification states, 'The road leading from Vadodara railway station towards Priyalakshmi Mill railway underpass towards Atal Bridge will remain closed to traffic. The alternate route notified by the Vadodara city police is via Pandya Bridge from the railway station. Instead of the road from Atal Bridge to Priyalakshmi mill underpass, the police have notified the route via Pandya Bridge to the railway station as well as the exit from Atal Bridge leading to Alkapuri underpass and to the Vadodara railway junction.' When contacted, NHSRCL officials told this newspaper that the closure of the underpass had been requested as a 'precautionary action' for the ongoing construction of the concourse of the upcoming High Speed Rail station of Vadodara. NHSRCL spokesperson said, 'The closure is a precautionary step as the slab casting work of the concourse will begin shortly. Thereafter, the work of the platform slab will also be undertaken and the closure is needed for safety.'
