Watch skateboarding legend Tony Hawk enjoy Cork skatepark

Mr Hawk and his children skated in Mallow for more than two hours Skateboarding royalty Tony Hawk spent nearly two hours shredding at Mallow's skatepark on Monday. Mr Hawk is widely known as a legend of his sport, and he rated his experience in Mallow at a cool 10/10. The 57-year-old said, in a Reddit post from his official account, that he is currently on vacation in Ireland and his kids wanted to skate at least once. 'Who am I to deny them? In these situations, my role is strictly facilitative: finding a decent park, providing transportation and on-demand follow-cam,' he said. 'When they finally got their clips, I handed my phone to Miles to chase me around one time. 'We had the whole place to ourselves for nearly two hours btw. '10/10 would skate again.' Mr Hawk has strong ties to Ireland, and particularly Munster, as he married his wife Cathy Goodman at Adare Manor in Limerick in June 2015, and Mr Hawk attended the Nine Inch Nails gig at the 3Arena to celebrate. In an Instagram post, he posted clips from the Nine Inch Nails gig and skateboarding in Mallow with the caption: 'Best anniversary ideas: Ireland with kids, Nine Inch Nails & empty skateparks,' followed by an Ireland flag, a wedding ring, music notes and skateboard emojis. The San Diego man played an influential role in bringing the art of skateboarding to the mainstream in the late 1990s. He won over 70 competitions across his 17-year career and became the world's first skateboarder to land a '900' at the X Games, to inspire a generation of skaters. Avid Cork skateboarders may have missed their chance to meet Mr Hawk in Mallow, but there is an off-chance he might appear at a park elsewhere while he holidays in Ireland. Mr Hawk's legacy has been immortalised in eponymous video games. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and 4, which originally hit the shelves in 2001 and 2002 respectively, have been authentically remade and will be available from July 11.

Watch: Legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk filmed skating in Mallow

He may have officially retired two decades ago, but that didn't stop the world's most recognisable skateboarder from hitting up a skatepark in Co Cork earlier this week. On Monday, 57-year-old Tony Hawk, widely regarded as one of — if not the most — influential skateboarder of all time, shared a video of himself and his family skating in Mallow Skatepark. In videos posted to his official Instagram and Reddit accounts, Hawk revealed they had the run of the park for more than two hours. "While on vacation in Ireland, our kids wanted to skate at least once. Who am I to deny them?" he wrote. "In these situations, my role is strictly facilitative: finding a decent park, providing transportation and on-demand follow-cam." After his family, who are all excellent skateboarders in their own right, had filmed their clips, Hawk asked his son Miles to film him putting a run of tricks together. "We had the whole place to ourselves for nearly two hours btw. 10/10 would skate again," Hawk added. In his discipline of vert skating, that is skating and performing tricks on a vert ramp, he is a trailblazer and pioneer. In a professional career spanning 25 years, the Californian competed in and won events the world over, inventing more than 100 tricks along the way. His most legendary feat is, perhaps, the "900" — a trick involving the completion of two-and-a-half mid-air revolutions on the board above a vert ramp. Until Hawk completed the trick in 1999, after more than a decade worth of attempts, it was thought the trick was so technically demanding it would be practically impossible. If the 900 made Hawk an extreme sports star in the US, it was the video game that bears his name that turned him into a household name, and his sport into a global phenomenon. The Tony Hawk's video game series has sold more than 1.4 billion units, pulling in over $2bn in sales since the release of the first instalment, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater for PlayStation 1 in 1999. The most recent instalment, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2, a remake of the first two titles in the series, sold more than a million copies within the first two weeks of its release. The next instalment in the series, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4, a remake of the third and fourth games of the series, is set for release next month. Hyderabad: Combined Graduation Parade held at Air Force Academy

New Delhi [India], June 14 (ANI): The Combined Graduation Parade (CGP) was held at the Air Force Academy (AFA), Dundigal, Hyderabad on Saturday marking successful culmination of the pre-commissioning training of flight cadets of Flying and Ground duty branches of the Indian Air Force (IAF), said a statement from Ministry of Defence. Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) was the Reviewing Officer (RO) of the parade, who conferred the President's Commission to the graduating Flight Cadets. A total of 254 Flight Cadets graduated today, which included men and women. Air Marshal Tejinder Singh, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Training Command, and Air Marshal PK Vohra, Commandant, AFA, received the CAS. The parade presented the RO with the General Salute, followed by an impressive march past. On this occasion, nine officers from the Indian Navy, seven officers from the Indian Coast Guard, and one trainee from a friendly foreign country were also awarded 'Wings' on successful completion of flying training. The ceremony was witnessed by dignitaries as well as the proud family members of the graduating officers. The highlight of the parade was the 'Commissioning Ceremony' in which the graduating cadets were commissioned as Flying Officers by the RO. An Oath was administered to the graduating officers by the Commandant of the Academy, where they pledged to safeguard the sovereignty and honour of the country. The event also included thrilling displays by the Akash Gangateam, the Air Warrior Drill Team, and synchronised aerobatics by the Suryakiran aerobatic team. The graduation parade was interspersed with well-coordinated and synchronized fly-pasts by trainer aircraft that included the Pilatus PC-7 MklI, Hawk, Kiran Mk-1 and Chetak. In recognition of their exceptional performance across various training disciplines, the RO felicitated the graduating officers. Flying Officer Rohan Krishnamurti from the Flying branch was awarded the President's Plaque and the Chief of the Air Staff Sword of Honour for standing first in the overall order of merit in the Pilots' course. Flying Officer Nishtha Vaid was awarded the President's Plaque for being first in the overall order of merit in the Ground duty branches. Addressing the parade, the RO commended the newly commissioned officers for their immaculate turn out, precise drill movements and adherence to the highest standards of parade. Congratulating the graduating officers, he said, 'When you chose to serve the nation, you opted for a career that is not only demanding, but also among the most rewarding and honourable. As we look to the future, two things are certain -- the fast-evolving character of warfare and the increasing relevance of aerospace power.' He further added, 'Operation Sindoor stands as a shining testament to the unparalleled professionalism of the Indian Air Force. We have demonstrated our ability to deliver precise and decisive blows to the enemy. As the future of the Air Force, you must understand that the IAF has always been -- and will continue to be -- the first responder in times of national crisis.' The CAS underscored the collective responsibility entrusted to the officers, stating, 'It is our solemn duty to live up to the trust that every Indian places in the Indian Air Force. Today's ceremony marks the culmination of years of rigorous training and perseverance, but it is only the beginning of your professional journey. You must continuously strive to expand your horizons and discover new capabilities.' He concluded by emphasising the path ahead, 'The battlespace of the future will be increasingly complex. With the IAF transforming into a true aerospace force, many of you will be at the forefront of India's ventures into space. These challenges will demand total commitment, relentless focus, innovation, and a deep passion for your calling. The uniform you wear is a symbol of national pride -- wear it with honour, lead with courage, and always uphold the core values of the Indian Air Force.' The parade culminated with the newly commissioned officers marching out in two columns to the resonant notes of martial marching tunes. The commissioning ceremony remains a memorable event in the life of Air Force officers as they are conferred the President's Commission in the presence of their proud parents and family members. It becomes the most memorable day in their career, which marks the beginning of a life filled with honour, pride and dignity in service of the nation. (ANI)

Red Arrows make history with sustainable fuel flypast for King's birthday

Jets from the world-famous aerobatic display team were powered by a blend of sustainable aviation fuel, and used the vegetable oil to produce their trademark vapour trails. It follows groundbreaking trials by RAF engineers and logisticians. All nine of the team's British-built Hawk fast-jets were topped up with a high-ratio blend of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at the team's home base of RAF Waddington, Lincolnshire, before they set off, in what is thought to be a world's first. The flypast is also thought to be the first time a renewable biofuel – known as hydrotreated vegetable oil – has been used to produce vapour trails. Charles has been championing sustainability and climate action since before he ascended the throne. A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said the King was not involved in the decision but was 'delighted' because he has been encouraging use of the fuel on royal flights where practical and hopes the example will lead to wider use across the aviation sector. Squadron leader Andy King, the Red Arrows' senior engineering officer who led the project, said: 'Ever since the Red Arrows' first display in 1965, the team has aimed to inspire future generations and represent the best of British. Using this technology is the latest example of our relentless pursuit of excellence. 'The flypast for His Majesty The King is the perfect opportunity to showcase this innovation. 'The vibrant vapour trails that we generate is what sets the Red Arrows apart and so to be the first aerobatic team in the world to move to a fully sustainable option is really exciting.' Minister for the Armed Forces, Luke Pollard, said: 'The iconic Red Arrows are one of the world's premier aerobatic display teams and by adopting a more environmentally friendly sustainable aviation fuel, the Royal Air Force is blazing a trail as part of our work to combat climate change.' The Red Arrows' 2025 season runs until October, with 60 shows planned across the UK and mainland Europe.
