NBA rumors: 76ers engage Spurs on trade for No. 2 pick

The post NBA rumors: 76ers engage Spurs on trade for No. 2 pick appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Philadelphia 76ers have engaged the San Antonio Spurs on a trade involving the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, according to HoopsHype's Michael Scotto. Nothing is imminent at this time, and Scotto reports the 76ers for now have 'zeroed in' on four prospects with the No. 3 pick. Advertisement The Sixers are in an interesting spot with the third pick, as noted by ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel in his latest mock draft. While Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper are the consensus top two prospects in this draft, there are legitimate questions about who's third. Harper's Rutgers teammate Ace Bailey has long been considered that guy, but Jake Fischer reported at The Stein Line this week that VJ Edgecombe could be Philadelphia's preferred option at No. 3. Fischer also confirmed Thursday the Spurs talks and the fact that the 76ers have four players in mind at No. 3. Edgecombe was recently in Philly for a workout, while Bailey has a workout scheduled. The Sixers reportedly aren't expected to use their pick to trade for a veteran and are predicted to land a young prospect high in this draft, whether that's at No. 3, No. 2 or further down. This report about a possible trade up is a bit out of nowhere. The presumptive pick would be Harper, but Philadelphia already has a young star point guard in place in Tyrese Maxey. Guard Jared McCain also showed star potential as a rookie before suffering a season-ending injury. But perhaps the Sixers really like Harper, or maybe they'd even look to trade up to No. 2 in order to trade that pick elsewhere for veteran help? While the current reporting says Philadelphia is expected to make a top pick, who knows what Daryl Morey has up his sleeve. Advertisement As for the Spurs, they also have high-profile guards in place in De'Aaron Fox and Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle. If San Antonio doesn't love the Harper fit, it could make some sense to trade down and get more assets while landing another top prospect. There has also been speculation about the Spurs trading the No. 2 pick for a proven star, but that would likely only be a Giannis Antetokounmpo scenario. Top NBA Draft pick has ‘perplexed' observers with predraft process

Ace Bailey has long had a great reputation heading into the 2025 NBA Draft even compared next to talented names like Cooper Flagg and Rutgers teammate Dylan Harper. But ahead of starting his pro career, Bailey's predraft process has reportedly left some around the league confused by his motives. Per ESPN in their latest mock draft, they had Bailey sliding to No. 6 to the Wizards. Bailey has been projected as high as No. 3 to the 76ers, but it sounds like his predraft process has raised some eyebrows. Advertisement 'Bailey's predraft workout strategy has perplexed some observers, as he has yet to conduct a single known workout to date, having declined invitations from several teams within his draft range,' Jonathan Givony wrote on ESPN. 'Sources say Bailey's camp has informed interested teams that they believe he is a top-3 player in the draft, but also seeks a clear pathway to stardom, perhaps feeling comfortable that a team will trade up to get him at Nos. 3 or 4, should he drop.' Prospects usually get in their workouts and interviews ahead of the draft, so Bailey not visiting teams is somewhat surprising. Givony reported Bailey is set to have a workout with the 76ers later this week, but otherwise, it's unclear if he'll be going elsewhere. Considering the Sixers could also go a different direction with their No. 3 pick, it's no guarantee Bailey is picked there. Bailey was stellar in his lone season at Rutgers, playing alongside Harper. Bailey averaged 17.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 30 games for the Scarlet Knights. While Rutgers didn't make the NCAA Tournament despite two top draft prospects, the lack of team success didn't affect their stock much. The NBA Draft is scheduled for June 25-26, so Bailey will find out next week where he'll be going to start his pro career. Flagg is expected to go No. 1 to the Mavericks while Harper is the same at No. 2 to the Spurs. But after that, it's unclear what could end up happening as teams could also look to move up in the draft. More Celtics content Read the original article on MassLive.

Phillies Share Bryce Harper Injury Update Amid Trade Rumors

Phillies Share Bryce Harper Injury Update Amid Trade Rumors originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Unlike former Boston Red Sox slugger Rafael Devers, Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper shouldn't be concerned about finding a new home this summer. Advertisement At least, that is the case when discussing uniforms. Harper and the Phillies are a perfect match, and there is absolutely zero indication the Phillies will part ways with the two-time NL MVP anytime soon. It'll still be a bit before we see Harper back in the lineup, though. Harper, who has been out since late May with a right wrist injury, took ground balls at first base over the weekend. Phillies manager Rob Thomson told reporters that Harper will travel with the team for their four-game road set against the Miami Marlins this week. However, Harper still isn't hitting, and there is no timetable for his return. Harper's injury update comes as the trade season begins in full force and rumors swirl about the Phillies' potential lineup changes. Philadelphia's outfield has battled inconsistency all season, raising questions about Harper—a full-time outfielder from 2012-21—possibly leaving first base. Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper after his injury on May 27, 2025Eric Hartline-Imagn Images Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran has been linked to the Phillies in recent weeks, and we expect such speculation to ramp up after Boston traded Devers to the San Francisco Giants. Advertisement Until further notice, though, we can assume Harper will resume full-time first-base duties upon returning. He hasn't played the outfield since 2022, and all but one start this season has come at first; he started at DH during a May 4 loss to the Atlanta Braves. Harper hit the IL batting .258 with nine home runs, 34 RBI, and a .814 OPS over 253 at-bats. He's posted 1.5 bWAR for the second-place Phillies, who enter Monday trailing the New York Mets by 2 1/2 games in the NL East. MLB Makes Bryce Harper Announcement After Injury Update

MLB Makes Bryce Harper Announcement After Injury Update originally appeared on Athlon Sports. As it stands, Philadelphia Phillies fans likely won't have to worry about first baseman Bryce Harper suffering an injury setback in the All-Star Game. Advertisement Harper, a two-time NL MVP, just keeps getting bad news. First, the Phillies reversed their decision to have Harper travel with them to Miami; instead, the eight-time All-Star remained in Philadelphia while recovering from a right wrist problem. If that wasn't enough, Major League Baseball announced on Monday that Harper ranks fourth among NL first basemen in All-Star voting. Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Freddie Freeman had 1,136,389 votes as of Monday afternoon, by far the most among NL first basemen. Harper had 276,647 votes, narrowly trailing Chicago Cubs first baseman Michael Bush's 286,931 votes. New York Mets star Pete Alonso (895,900) has a considerable lead over both players. Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Bryce HarperJohn E. Sokolowski-Imagn Images That's not to say Harper necessarily deserves an All-Star nod. Harper hit the IL batting .258 with nine home runs, 34 RBI, and a .814 OPS over 253 at-bats. He's posted 1.5 bWAR for the second-place Phillies, who trail the Mets by two games in the NL East. Advertisement It's nonetheless surprising that Haper doesn't have more votes, though, especially given his name and reputation. He's certainly more recognizable than Busch, a third-year first baseman hitting .265 with 11 home runs, 39 RBI, and a .861 OPS for the NL Central-leading Cubs. No Phillies player ranked higher than third at their position. However, each team must have one representative, and ace Zack Wheeler (7-2, 2.76 ERA) appears on track to earn his third All-Star selection. Wheeler is already worth 3.0 bWAR, and he's recorded a brilliant 110-19 K-BB ratio in 88 innings.
