High court denies bail in Rs 23cr scam over Hisar Lok Sabha ticket
Chandigarh: Punjab and Haryana high court declined the anticipatory bail plea of one of the accused in the high-profile Rs 23-crore cheating case involving alleged allurement sought in the name of the Prime Minister and the home minister to secure Lok Sabha ticket from Hisar seat. Denying bail to the petitioner, Justice N S Shekhawat of the HC observed in the detailed order released last week: "Two cheques of Rs 12 crores and 10 crores were taken from the complainant, which are yet to be recovered. Apart from that, the custodial interrogation of the petitioner would be required to know the names of others involved in the crime as well as to unearth the modus operandi adopted by the accused in the present case. " In this case, one Parveen Godara, a BJP functionary of Hansi town in the Hisar district of Haryana, was defrauded by the accused on the promise of getting him a ticket from Hisar for the 2024 parliamentary election for Rs 23 crore, out of which he paid around Rs 63 lakh. Based on his complaint, an FIR was registered at the city police station in Hansi on April 22, 2025. Trusting these claims, he paid Rs 63.88 lakh via cash and bank transfers and handed over post-dated cheques amounting to Rs 22 crore as security. However, after being informed that he was not selected as a candidate, the complainant was allegedly threatened and told to forget about the money. However, while seeking bail in the case, the petitioner and one of the accused, Harpal Singh, alleged that the complainant, who held various posts in BJP-ruled Haryana, managed to get a false FIR registered against the petitioner and his co-accused. Opposing the bail plea, the state govt submitted that it was established from the screenshots and chats, that Kapil Dev Aggarwal and Ashish Pathak had received money from the complainant. 14 years on, GMADA yet to hand over showrooms against acquired land
Even though the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) had acquired land for the IT City housing scheme at Aerocity in December 2011, around 300 landowners from seven villages, who had applied under the land pooling scheme, are still awaiting possession of their showrooms. Through the land pooling scheme, owners were to be provided with residential or commercial plots instead of monetary compensation in lieu of their land. The size of each showroom is 100 square yards. In contrast, GMADA had already given possession of residential plots in IT City in 2019. According to records, letters of intent (LOIs) were issued in 2013 for 100 square yards SCOs and booths, based on entitlement. The draw for allotment of commercial sites and booths to LOI holders was conducted in August 2021. However, more than three and a half years later, the original allottees have still not received allotment letters or possession of their sites, preventing them from constructing buildings and starting businesses to earn a livelihood. One allottee, Harpal Singh, said, 'GMADA had acquired the land more than a decade ago but has still not given us possession of the showrooms under the land pooling scheme, despite repeated requests.' He added, 'On the other hand, Manav Rachna School and companies such as Infosys and HDFC have already constructed their buildings and are running their operations. It is unclear why GMADA is delaying possession when the infrastructure at the site is already complete.' When contacted, a senior GMADA officer said, 'There are some issues related to services and the alignment of the choe (seasonal stream) passing through the area. We are hopeful that the matter will be resolved soon and possession will be handed over in the next few months.' Another landowner, Sajjan Singh of Chajumajra village, expressed his disappointment, stating, 'There is a lot of discontentment among allottees due to the non-issuance of allotment letters and possession. Many of our children are unemployed and our livelihood is at risk as our agricultural land was acquired way back in 2011. Although the draw for commercial plots was conducted and numbers allotted in 2021, possession has still not been given. Our children and family members are waiting to start their businesses to support the family.' The IT City spans 1,722 acres across Sectors 66-B, 82-A, 83-A and 101-A, adjacent to Airport Road. The first housing scheme in IT City was launched in February 2014, offering 325 residential plots at ₹23,500 per square yard. The second scheme was launched in July 2016 with 750 plots at ₹20,000 per square yard. The most recent one was launched in April 2018.

Ludhiana: Illegal medical store of ‘drug peddler' razed
In a continued crackdown on drug-related activities, the Ludhiana police commissionerate on Tuesday demolished an illegally constructed medical store in the Daba area that was allegedly being used as a front for narcotics distribution. According to police, the store was operated by a known drug peddler Satnam Singh alias Lovely, a resident of New Sunder Nagar, Lohara. Police said that Satnam has been booked in at least five criminal cases, including multiple offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Though previously arrested, he is currently out on bail. According to investigators, Satnam misused the medical store to supply drugs to local addicts while maintaining the façade of a legitimate pharmacy. The structure had been built without proper authorization, making it subject to demolition under municipal and criminal provisions. A team led by deputy commissioner of police (Investigation) Harpal Singh, with assistance from the Ludhiana municipal corporation, carried out the demolition. 'The premises had become a hub for drug distribution in the locality. We are taking strict action against such illegal activities and properties that facilitate drug trade,' said DCP Harpal Singh. This latest demolition follows a similar action on May 5, when authorities razed the illegally constructed house of Lakhan, a convicted drug trafficker, in Transport Nagar. Lakhan is currently lodged in jail.
