11,400 induction cooktops distributed to Anganwadi centres in AP
Vijayawada, June 5 (UNI) The Government of Andhra Pradesh, in partnership with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture under the Ministry of Power, on the special occasion of World Environment Day, initiated the distribution of 11,400 induction cooktops and stainless-steel utensil sets to Anganwadi centres across the state. The distribution of the cooktops was done under Phase-I of the National Efficient Cooking Programme (NECP). This effort is part of a larger rollout targeting all 55,607 operational Anganwadi Centres in the state. The distribution drive will be rolled out, covering all 26 districts of the state. The event was graced by Gummidi Sandhya Rani Minister of Women and Child Welfare, Kesineni Chinni, MP, Gadde Rama Mohan Rao, MLA. Launched nationally on November 2, 2023, under the Ministry of Power's 'Go Electric' campaign, the National Efficient Cooking Programme (NECP) aims to promote the widespread adoption of energy-efficient electric cooking appliances across India with the guidance from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). The Andhra Pradesh rollout was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister of Power Manohar Lal on December 7, 2024. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Gummidi Sandhya Rani said: "The distribution of induction cooktops is a commendable step forward in our collective commitment to cleaner energy and improved community health. Initiatives like the National Efficient Cooking Programme empower our Anganwadi workers, foster sustainable habits, and significantly reduce health risks associated with traditional cooking methods. Andhra Pradesh's partnership with EESL exemplifies our state's dedication to innovative, environmentally responsible practices.' MP Chinni, said: 'I am proud to witness this initiative begin in my constituency. Distributing induction cooktops under NECP is a vital step toward reducing health hazards and promoting energy efficiency. Andhra Pradesh's proactive partnership with EESL reflects our state's commitment to sustainable development.' A Surya Kumari, Secretary to Government, said: "We are proud to support this timely and much-needed initiative in partnership with EESL. Anganwadi workers form the backbone of our rural health and nutrition systems, and it is only fitting that they receive tools that enhance both their safety and efficiency. Induction cooktops are more than appliances—they are a symbol of progress. They save time, reduce exposure to harmful smoke, and ease the domestic load on women. Sandhya Rani inaugurates PHC
Thonam (ParvathipuramManyam): Minister of Women and Child Welfare and Tribal Welfare Gummidi Sandhya Rani has inaugurated Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Thonam of Salurumandal on Friday. The PHC has been constructed with a cost of Rs.1.82 crores. The PHC caters the needs of tribal population belong to adjacent mandals. The PHC is equipped with latest machinery which helps to provide good health services and helpful to the public not go to the Community Health Centre of Saluru. The Minister said that an additional building would come up with a cost of Rs.50 lakhs which could be utilized as birth waiting hall after delivery. The Minister stated that the Government is committed to provide good medical facilities to the triabals. Due to the efforts taken in the ParvathipuramManyam District, the district stood in the best position in the state in normal deliveries and suggested the medical officers to continue the effort. The minister also inaugurated Ambulance and released posters to create awareness among the public on health concepts.

Shyamalamba festival returns after 15 years in Saluru
Saluru: The Shyamalamba deity festival in Saluru is set to be celebrated from May 18th to 20th, marking its grand return after a 15-year hiatus. The district administration is making elaborate arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the three-day festival. Authorities have prioritized uninterrupted drinking water supply, electricity, and sanitation services during the event. To maintain public safety and order, a control room is being established, and police bandobast (security arrangements) is underway. The police have recommended the installation of 150 CCTV cameras for surveillance and suggested placing LED screens at key locations to manage crowds effectively. EPDCL officials have commenced preparations, including setting up 12 transformers and installing approximately 95 new electric poles to guarantee continuous power supply. Around 200 sanitation workers are being deployed and works related to drinking water provision are scheduled to begin by Tuesday. Officials are expecting a massive turnout of nearly 10 lakh pilgrims for the festival. A dedicated route has already been identified for the Siri Manu Utsav procession. On Monday, Women and Child Welfare and Tribal Welfare Minister Gummidi Sandhya Rani held a review meeting at the Saluru Municipal Office. In attendance were in-charge District Collector SS Shobika and Saluru Municipal Chairperson Puvvala Eswaramma, along with other key officials. The Minister emphasized the importance of completing all works on a priority basis, especially since the festival, typically held every nine years, had been delayed due to various reasons. She expressed displeasure over the delay in drinking water-related works, despite funds being released on March 27, 2025.

It is time to change family planning slogan to ‘Two, three, or more', says Andhra Pradesh Minister
Minister for Women Development and Child Welfare Gummidi Sandhya Rani has stated that women should have more children, considering the nation's needs. The concept of two children or one child per family is no longer valid. Participating as chief guest at the State-level 'Poshan Pakhwada–2025' at the VMRDA Children Arena, here, on Tuesday, the Minister said that the time has come to change the old family planning slogan to 'Two, three, or more'. She stated that having more than two children would not adversely impact welfare scheme beneficiaries and that an official notification has already been issued in this regard. She stated that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu aims to ensure women's health and happiness, and he has taken several measures to enhance their welfare. Mr. Naidu was sympathetic to the demands of Anganwadis and ASHA workers and had also sanctioned funds under various schemes. She called upon the field staff to work diligently and urged better coordination between Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) officials and those of the Medical and Health Departments to expand the reach of their services. Ms. Rani explained that under the 'Poshan' programme, the care of children for the first 1,000 days after birth should be given top priority. She suggested measures to prevent obesity and promote overall growth. She also said the Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) module should be implemented strictly and consistently to identify children suffering from nutritional deficiencies. She called upon parents not to discriminate between male and female children but to give them equal priority and attention. Children should be taught human values, and parents should set a good example for their children by avoiding excessive TV watching and mobile phone use. Caesarean sections were more common in urban areas, with 70% of deliveries through C-sections compared to 40% in rural areas. Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad called for developing good eating habits in children by drawing inspiration from Japan. He said that cycling and exercise were compulsory for children in Japan, and TV and mobile phones were kept out of their reach. Healthy eating habits and discipline play a crucial role in ensuring the health of children in Japan, he said. Earlier, the Minister visited the nutrition stalls, put up by the ICDS staff. She performed 'Seemantham', a traditional baby shower ceremony, for pregnant women. A. Surya Kumari, Principal Secretary, Women and Child Welfare, was present.
