Marvel Tokon: Is It Game Over for Marvel vs. Capcom?
Marvel Rivals had been a huge win for Marvel Games, and ever since the release of the collection, fans have been hoping for a reveal of the next Marvel vs. Capcom game. As it turns out, we're getting a Marvel-themed fighting game in the same vein as MvC , but it will be a completely new series. Check out Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls : For context Arc System Works is behind fighting game titles like Guilty Gear and Dragon Ball FighterZ. By the looks of it, they've given the Marvel heroes of Tokon their own special anime spin, and we have fresh looks for characters like Captain America, Iron Man, and even Ms. Marvel. We don't know who else could be coming to the roster, but characters spotted in the background include Thor and Daredevil. The way previous Arc System games have also worked, it's possible that they could be releasing characters regularly in the form of DLC. A lot of fans have been wondering why Marvel vs. Capcom hasn't made any announcements despite the fan demand, but some speculate that it has something to do with Capcom not being pleased with the results of their latest MvC title Infinite which came out back in 2017. "it looks like Marvel Vs. Capcom 4, but due to international copyright laws, it's not." — Meester (@GoofTesticles) June 4, 2025 While some fans think that there's a chance for MvC in the future, it does look like Arc Sys has this in the bag. There's already a lot of hype for it, and I can't imagine anything Capcom could do at this point besides just do some crossover DLC with Tokon . Who knows, maybe MvC5 could happen, but Tokon is definitely going to have some implications on what happens with it. No specific release date has been announced for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls , but we should expect the title to release sometime in 2026 for PC and PS5.

Here's The ‘Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls' Confirmed Fighter List
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls PlayStation's State of Play may not have revealed The Last of Us Part III, but for certain audiences, there were some explosive premieres all the same. Chief among them was the surprise debut of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, an upcoming fighting game from Arc System Works, the developer of Guilty Gear. Previously mainly locked into the Marvel Vs. Capcom series, this is a huge turn for the comic characters in the fighting game space, a 4v4 concept with some brilliant designs and movesets on display already. So far, we have a confirmed list of eight characters coming to Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. They are: Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls There will no doubt be more added and revealed over time, but this is the initial list of confirmations. Many eagle-eyed fans have combed through the footage, mainly the backgrounds of the arenas, and found references to other Marvel characters like Dazzler, Daredevil, Thor, Wasp, Luna Snow and The Fantastic Four. Again, it's the Marvel universe, so those could just be fun easter eggs or indications of something more. Here's Arc producer Takeshi Yamanaka on the roster of Marvel characters: FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder So the idea is that they're attempting to feature heroes that are outside the expansive roster of the history of the Marvel vs. Capcom series, in addition to other fighters we've seen over the years. Ms. Marvel comes to mind as a character that fits that bill (unless I'm missing her appearance somewhere). Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will be out sometime in 2026. It will join 2025's very high-profile Marvel game, Marvel Rivals. Of the eight character reveals, Ms. Marvel, Ghost Rider and Doctor Doom aren't playable in Rivals, albeit that game adds new heroes and villains every single month. Marvel is expanding its footprint at a time when its rival DC is struggling, from the failure of Suicide Squad to the cancellation of a Wonder Woman game. DC's main fighting game series is Injustice, but it's hard to imagine Injustice 3 could match the hype we're seeing from fans here. It's a huge deal, and hopefully we'll hear and see more from the game soon. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram. Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls: When can you expect the 4v4 tag team fighter to go live?
Sony's latest State of Play showcase has revealed the most unexpected. While rumours have swirled for years about a stage fighter game from Marvel, few expected Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Soul from Arc System Works, the masters behind Guilty Gear and Dragon Ball FighterZ. Even more shocking? This time, it's not Capcom holding the reins. ALSO READ| PlayStation 5's lifespan was accidentally revealed: Here's how long you have left before PS6 comes in Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is slated for release in 2026 on PlayStation 5 and PC, but the exact dates are not confirmed yet. Unlike the classic Marvel vs. Capcom series, Tōkon will be more welcoming, like the Marvel Rivals. 'From the beginning, we aimed to make MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls a title that could be enjoyed by a wide variety of players,' said Kazuto 'Pachi' Sekine, Director/Battle Director at Arc System Works. 'Generally, a team VS fighting game requires the player to learn multiple characters, but for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, you only need to master one character in order to play the game.' 'We have designed the mechanics in such a way that you can perform a variety of actions with either traditional fighting game inputs or simple inputs. With the press of a few buttons, multiple characters can appear on screen to provide backup or attack together—creating a new and exciting team VS battle experience,' he added. 'The inspiration for working on this project really came from a place of pure fandom, and wanting to say, 'Why isn't PlayStation in this space?'' said Reed Baird, Senior Producer at PlayStation Studios XDEV, per PlayStation Blog. 'So PlayStation approached us with this vision to bring Marvel back to the forefront of the tag fighting genre. And that got us really excited, because we had worked with them before on successful stuff like the Marvel's Spider-Man franchise with Insomniac,' Michael Francisco, Sr. Product Development Manager at Marvel Games, echoed the same. Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a new tag fighting game from the devs of Guilty Gear
"Avengers assemble" isn't just a call to action for superheroes; it's also the basis for a new tag fighting game. The reveal of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls closed out PlayStation's State of Play presentation ahead of Summer Games Fest 2025. PlayStation Studios and Marvel Games are teaming up with Arc System Works, the studio behind the Guilty Gear fighting game series, for this project. The game is scheduled to launch some time in 2026 on PlayStation 5 and on PC through the Steam and Epic stores. The trailer shows several members of the Marvel roster — Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, Storm, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord and Ghost Rider — cycling on screen and showing off their abilities. Team-based fighting games have a long lineage, but those are commonly trios of characters controlled by a single competitor. Marvel Tōkon ups the ante with a 4v4 team system. The additional team member creates even more potential for flashy combination attacks. "One of the appeals of Marvel comics is seeing the vast cast of characters coming together to create all kinds of unique team-ups," Game Director and Lead Battle Designer Kazuto Sekine said of the design choice. "With these two ideas in mind, we concluded that creating a 4v4 team VS system would be the best way to not only create those over-the-top moments, but to further evolve the tag fighting genre." Marvel is having a bit of a moment in gaming, with the team shooter Marvel Rivals becoming a surprise sensation in recent months despite heavy competition from established titles. (Unfortunately, that success didn't save several members of the North American dev team from being laid off in February.) It should be fascinating to compare how the two genres interpret the iconic characters and their powers.

Anime convention in Toronto brings together comics fans and cosplayers
Costume-clad Skylar Spalla stood on the curb at the Toronto Congress Centre on a recent weekend, watching hundreds of fellow cosplayers pass by. His twin brother flitted around him, making sure Spalla's massive suit of armour, which they strapped on using zip ties, held together. Every few minutes, a person approached to ask for a photo with him, from muscle-bound warriors to little kids with their parents. The art student's costume, a recreation of the character Havel from the video game Dark Souls 3, was made of little more than papier mâché, paint and pop tabs. It took him countless hours to make, and showing it at Anime North, an annual fan-run convention celebrating anime, manga and video games, he said, brings him a great sense of pride. Anime North is not only Toronto's biggest anime convention – it is also a fashion show where everyone is a star. Outside of the convention buildings, people gathered in the shade or on the grass near the food trucks to take photos and make friends. One was dressed like Star Wars' Kylo Ren, amplifying their voice with a speaker. Another was costumed as A.B.A., the shy homunculus from the game Guilty Gear with her demon-axe partner Paracelsus (made out of pool noodles and cardboard). One man came to Anime North with a Furby head fashioned with remote-controlled eyes and mouth. For many cosplayers, the annual convention provides a chance to show off their costuming handiwork, and make others happy by bringing beloved characters to life. 'Coming to a convention like this gives me the opportunity to share in the joy that this brings me with so many other people,' said Elijah Kamaras-Garland, a photographer and cosplayer from Toronto who dressed in multiple costumes over the convention weekend as characters from the video game Star Fox. He was accompanied by a friend cosplaying as King K Rool, the malevolent crocodile from the video game Donkey Kong. That costume, made of foam mats, 'had to be built around him by a couple of his friends,' Kamaras-Garland said, because it was so large. Since the late 1980s, Japanese comics (or manga) and cartoons (also known as anime) have found an audience outside of their home country. That popularity has exploded over the past decade, as major television channels such as YTV and streaming services have offered anime shows in English for international audiences. This year's convention (attended by an estimated 36,000 visitors) hosted a variety of panels and workshops where attendees could learn about Japanese culture or their favourite fan pursuit, including a Japanese tea ceremony demonstration, a talk about the philosophy of the series Attack on Titan, a comedic live reading of poorly-written fan fiction and a discussion of accommodating cosplay for people with chronic illnesses. Huge halls were dedicated to artists selling their work. Many vendors were Canadians who said that events like Anime North offer exposure and revenue that keeps small businesses afloat. 'It's a great opportunity to be your own boss, and be able to make a living off of something you actually like' said Vincent Leclerc, an assistant of Savage Mojo, a French-Canadian artist, illustrator and animator who specializes in fan art of fantastical dinosaurs. Conventions like Anime North also provide a real-life space for people to meet fellow hobbyists. While anime fandoms have flourished in online spaces including Reddit and Tumblr, it can be difficult to connect in person with others who share the same interests in shows or games. That community is part of why so many people return to Anime North. It was Maxx Romphf's second time at the convention. 'I've seen every anime you can think of [and] video games,' said the Monster High series cosplayer. 'It's just really nice.' At the end of the convention, visitors headed home in their bright, colourful outfits, many to ready themselves for work the next day. Like the day after Halloween, the costumes go back in the closet and it's back to business as usual. But judging from the smiles on attendees' faces, it was an unforgettable weekend for them.
