Palace braced for Marc Guehi bid from Liverpool after identifying replacement

Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is being eyed by a series of top Premier League clubs but Liverpool are now in the driving seat to land the 24-year-old England international Crystal Palace are expecting Liverpool to make a formal offer for club captain Marc Guehi as talks continue with Sporting CP over a potential deal for his replacement, Ousmane Diomande. Guehi is swiftly approaching the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park and the Eagles are ready to cash in on their beloved skipper following last month's historic FA Cup triumph to avoid losing him on a free transfer in 2026. Liverpool are not the only side interested in the 24-year-old but Arne Slot's Premier League champions are now emerging as clear favourites to land Guehi as Palace also step up their pursuit of Ivory Coast international Diomande. ‌ The highly-coveted 21-year-old is believed to have a £68million release clause written into his Sporting deal and while Palace are not prepared to put that kind of money on table, they are willing to smash their club-record to land the talented centre-back. ‌ They have already made progress on personal terms, Diomande is open to the move and Palace have good relations with the player's agency ROOF, who also represent left wing-back Tyrick Mitchell. Oliver Glasner has personally approved a swoop for Diomande as there is confidence he has big potential and crucially, there is belief he can play in multiple roles within the Austrian's three-man defensive line. Newcastle, who have long courted Guehi, are also among Diomande's admirers and Ruben Amorim's former starlet has also been linked with Manchester United in the past 12 months. Now Palace are working on an agreement and while club-to-club discussions have now taken place, there is still a notable gap in valuation between the parties at this moment in time. Selling Guehi would undoubtedly bolster the Eagles' spending power, though Liverpool have already intimated they would be prepared to wait 12 months to get their man on a free, if required. ‌ The Three Lions defender also has interest from Arsenal and former club Chelsea but Liverpool are expected to step up their pursuit of the player as Jarrell Quansah is close to joining German club Bayer Leverkusen in a £35m deal. The agreement is now in the final stages and is expected to be worth £30m upfront plus £5m in bonuses. Slot has been keen to bolster his defensive options and Liverpool had also looked at Dean Huijsen before the Spaniard opted to join Real Madrid in a £50m move. Ibrahima Konate is also set to enter the final 12 months of his contract next month and while further discussions over fresh terms are expected to take place, there is a high likelihood he could run down his Anfield deal amid interest from Los Blancos. The Reds are on course to announce the £116.5m British-record signing of Florian Wirtz, who is in the North West for his medical tests, and Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez is also poised to follow suit.

Crystal Palace stance on Liverpool's Guehi interest after rejecting two bids

Liverpool are interested in signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace with Jarrel Quansah now looking likely to join Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth around £34million Marc Guehi has emerged as the latest big-money transfer target for Liverpool as the Premier League champions continue to make waves in the transfer market - but Crystal Palace will not sell their star defender on the cheap. Guehi, 24, is coming off the back of a fine season with the Eagles, who lifted the FA Cup last month. And, 12 months on from rejecting a bid from Newcastle, as well as one from Tottenham in January, it seems Crystal Palace are braced for further interest in their captain. ‌ Liverpool are the latest team to take an interest in Guehi, who moved to Selhurst Park from Chelsea in the summer of 2021. The Reds are in talks to sell Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen for around £34million and have set their sights on Guehi to replace their academy graduate. ‌ But although the England star may be in the final year of his contract, Palace are expected to play hardball over his future. While they may be unable to command the £65m they were seeking from Newcastle last summer, Palace are still likely to demand a significant sum to part ways with Guehi ahead of the 2025-26 campaign. They also rejected an offer from Spurs six months ago, worth £55m with £15m in add-ons. There could, however, be a deal to be done with the Eagles currently in talks over a £40m deal for Ousmane Diomande, the Sporting Lisbon centre half who, ironically, has previously been looked at by Liverpool. The champions are keen to add another top centre-back to their squad with Ibrahima Konate's future still up in the air, while there is also uncertainty over Joe Gomez. Join the debate! Would Guehi be a good signing for Liverpool? Let us know here ‌ Jarrad Branthwaite is another player Liverpool admire, per The Mail, however, there is an acceptance that signing Everton 's star centre half would be anything but straightforward owing to the bitter rivalry with their next-door neighbours. As well as a new centre-back, Liverpool are also pursuing Milos Kerkez, with a deal for the Bournemouth left-back now thought to be close. Florian Wirtz is in Liverpool and poised to officially shatter the British transfer record on Friday when his £116m switch from Bayer Leverkusen is finalised. The 22-year-old will undergo a medical on Merseyside before putting pen to paper on a long-term deal.

Liverpool pick out next transfer after Wirtz and Kerkez as £34m deal advanced

Arne Slot's Liverpool have already enjoyed a lucrative summer window and they have another big-money swoop in mind should one of their pending deals go through as expected Liverpool will make a move for Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi as a replacement for Jarell Quansah - who is primed for Bayer Leverkusen. Erik ten Hag is a big fan of the Reds' academy graduate. The former Manchester United manager sees him as an ideal replacement for Jonathan Tah, with the German defender set to join Bayern Munich this summer. Liverpool are reluctant to sell Quansah this summer but it is thought that a bid of around 40m (£34m) could be enough to convince them to cash-in. ‌ And should they do that, Liverpool chiefs have already picked out his ideal replacement. The Merseysiders are long-term admirers of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi. ‌ Liverpool have been monitoring developments over the England star's future with just one year remaining on his Selhurst Park deal. They could however face competition from Newcastle who have also been chasing Guehi over recent seasons. "I think the most important thing is just always doing the best that I can for this football club," the defender said about his future last year. "I come in every day and I try to be the same. "I try to work hard. And you know, this football club has given me a lot. I'm still under contract at this football club, so my focus is always at this football club. So, you know, for me, the most important is just doing the best I can and seeing where the future holds." Meanwhile, both chairman Steve Parish and manager Oliver Glasner have confirmed that Guehi is not actively looking to leave. Speaking in January, the latter said: 'If one is coming and says they want to leave and both clubs find an agreement, I think it will happen. But as long as a player doesn't come — and Marc didn't come — I am really not concerned he will leave. On Newcastle's failed pursuit last summer, Parish said: "Nobody has got to the valuation yet. If you want a superstar player you need to pay superstar money. ‌ "It's not near the point where we have to make a decision. We love having him and would love to keep him. If someone else wants to have him they need to make it really difficult for us. He's a generational talent." Guehi, 24, has been with Palace since his 2021 arrival from Chelsea. He has gone on to play 155 games for the club and played a crucial role as the Eagles won the FA Cup last season. Should Liverpool make a move, he would become the latest big-money addition to the squad this summer. Jeremie Frimpong has already been signed from Bayer Leverkusen, while Florian Wirtz is on the verge of joining him. Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez also looks likely to join the Premier League champions over the coming weeks.

Arsenal reignite interest in Newcastle and Chelsea target as asking price slashe

Arsenal are showing an interest in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi again, as the defender heads into the final year of his contract. The 24-year-old was a target for the Gunners 12 months ago, along with a number of other clubs including Newcastle, Liverpool and his former team Chelsea. The Eagles stuck firm to their lofty asking price of £70m and no deal was done, with Guehi staying put and going on to win the FA Cup with Palace. However, the England international's contract at Selhurst Park expires next year so his price tag will be significantly lower this summer. The Mirror report that with Guehi now much more affordable than a year ago, Arsenal's interest has been reignited, although their pursuit of him will not be straightforward. Not only will there be plenty of competition again from their Premier League rivals, but the 23-cap England international may take some convincing to move to the Emirates. Mikel Arteta has established a very reliable partnership at centre-back in Gabriel and William Saliba, one that will not easily be broken. Gabriel signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal earlier this month and the club is working on Saliba doing the same. There is interest from Real Madrid in the Frenchman and the Gunners are very keen to keep hold of the impressive centre-back. That puts in question their interest in Guehi as he will not want to move to any club where he would not be a guaranteed starter. The Athletic report that Arteta wants genuine competition to his first-choice central defenders and Arsenal made a move for Bournemouth's Dean Huijsen before he made his £50m transfer to Real Madrid. Newcastle made three bids for Guehi last summer, going as high as £60m, but could not convince Palace to sell. With a return to the Champions League, the Magpies could come back with another offer as he is now likely available for less than they bid in 2024. Joined from Chelsea in July 2021 for £18m Appearances: 155 Goals: 8 Trophies: 2024/25 FA Cup Guehi has offered little on his future, saying before Palace beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final: 'My only focus is this game. 'My only focus is the fact that I am under contract at Palace. So as far as I am concerned, I am a Palace player.' Last month The Sun reported that Guehi may choose to run down his contract at Crystal Palace and see his options expand further when he will be available on a free transfer next summer. Real Madrid and Barcelona have been touted as possible destinations for the defender if he were to leave Selhurst Park on a free. MORE: When does the transfer window reopen and why has it closed? Arsenal's William Saliba stance as dramatic transfer U-turn made on £70m star

Arsenal are determined to tie down star centre-back William Saliba to a new deal at the Emirates Stadium, but they are also once again considering a move for Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is once again ready to swoop for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, a year on from being priced out of a move for the Eagles' captain. However, the Gunners are understood to also want to tie down William Saliba to a new contract, which could complicate a move for Guehi. The 24-year-old England international has just a year remaining on his contract with Palace, which should make him considerably more affordable now than the reported £70million asking price that put the Gunners off last summer. ‌ Despite the U-turn on their interest in Guehi, Arsenal are determined to keep their defensive talisman Saliba at the club for several seasons to come. As a result, the Three Lions ace may not wish to join a team with such a formidable defensive partnership in the shape of Saliba and Gabriel, given he could struggle for regular game time. ‌ With the World Cup also approaching next summer, Geuhi will most likely want to be at a club where he is assured of regular game time – even if that means staying at Palace, who are weighing up whether to cash in if they can't tie the ex-Chelsea man down to a new deal off the back of their FA Cup triumph. As per The Times, Arsenal shelved interest in Guehi in 2024, and instead moved for Riccardo Calafiori to cover central and left-back positions instead. Now, according to The Athletic, Arteta is now once again keen on adding an experienced centre-back to his ranks. The report also says Arsenal made a significant effort to sign Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth, only for the Spanish international to choose Real Madrid, meaning Guehi is now back on their radar. The likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle and old club Chelsea are all believed to have held an interest in the defender. However, Chelsea are due 20 per cent of any future sale, after Guehi came through the youth ranks at Stamford Bridge, which is believed to have influenced the Eagles' hefty demands. ‌ Arsenal have already tied down 27-year-old Brazil star Gabriel to a new four-year contract. With Saliba, 24, about to head into the last two years of his current contract, the club have opened discussions about a new deal. The Gunners hierarchy are confident that the French international wants to stay despite interest from Madrid. The centre-half has also claimed he is content in north London and there was "no rush" to sort out his future. "I'm really happy here," he said. "I've been here for two years-and-a-half as well. There is nothing. I'm happy here and I want to continue here." ‌ Speaking on his own future after Palace won the FA Cup in May, Guehi said: "I'm still under contract at this football club, so my focus is always at this football club. So, you know, for me, the most important is just doing the best I can and seeing where the future holds.' It's looking likely that Arsenal's willingness for Saliba to stay could play a decisive factor in Guehi's next move with a club like Newcastle surely able to offer him more minutes on the pitch. Regardless, Palace appear to already be preparing for life without their captain, who could now leave this summer for a fee closer to the region of £40m-£45m. Reports state that the Eagles have lined up a move for Sporting CP defender Ousmane Diomande. Arsenal were also said to be interested, but it was said over the weekend Palace are gearing up to strike with a £45m bid for the Ivory Coast international.
