Actor Eric Dane says disease has taken all function in right arm

ALS has robbed Eric Dane (pic) of functioning in his right arm and is creeping through his left, the actor said in an emotional interview about the diagnosis he revealed in April. The symptoms began rather subtly about a year and a half ago, the Euphoria and Grey's Anatomy star told Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America in an interview that aired Monday morning. He is looking to raise awareness about the disease. 'I started experiencing some weakness in my right hand,' said Dane, 52. 'And I didn't really think anything of it at the time. I thought maybe I'd been texting too much, and my hand was fatigued.' It didn't go away, however, leading to a string of specialist visits that culminated nine months later with a diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease for the Yankees Hall of Fame player who died of it in 1941. 'A few weeks later I noticed it had gotten a little worse,' Dane recounted. 'So I went and saw a hand specialist, who sent me to another hand specialist. I went and saw a neurologist, and the neurologist sent me to another neurologist, who said, 'This is way above my pay grade.' ' Now, his right arm has 'completely stopped working,' the actor said. 'I feel like maybe a couple more months and I won't have my left hand either.' The letters ALS are burned into Dane's brain. 'I will never forget those three letters,' the veteran actor told Sawyer. 'It's on me the second I wake up.' The rare motor neuron disease affects nerve cells, weakening the muscles and leading to paralysis that eventually extends to the muscles that control speaking, eating and breathing, the Mayo Clinic explains. Dane is weathering this storm with the help of his wife, actress Rebecca Gayheart, and their daughters Billie Beatrice, 15, and Georgia Geraldine, 13. He said the diagnosis really hit home a few months ago during a boat trip with one of his daughters, when he jumped into ocean and realised he couldn't make it back to the boat on his own. 'I realised in that moment, I'm not safe in the water anymore,' he said. His daughter dragged him back, and he made sure she returned to the water to finish her snorkeling session with the guide. 'But I was just heartbroken.' Nonetheless, Dane is determined to keep working as long as he is able. 'I don't think this is the end of my story,' he told Sawyer. 'In my heart I just don't feel like this is the end of me. I'm fighting as much as I can.' At the same time, he allowed, 'There's so much about it that's out of my control.' – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service

Grey's Anatomy star Katherine Heigl launches health campaign down under

A new health campaign encouraging mums to talk unashamedly about their bladder leaks has been launched in Australia by Grey's Anatomy star Katherine Heigl. In the campaign, Heigl plays a mum who consoles a friend during a catch-up when she accidentally urinates. The woman's son describes the mum's behaviour as "embarrassing". "You're going to deny your mother a moment of mirth because she got the giggle dribble?" Heigl challenges the son in the advertisement. "After kids, your pelvic floor can weaken, and then perimenopause reduces oestrogen." READ MORE: Stalking 'critical point of intervention' to break cycle of coercive control Heigl told her social media followers she participated in the campaign for Poise after learning two-thirds of Australian women over 25 experience bladder leaks, a figure that is higher than in the US. The actress said she had first-hand experience of the issue after welcoming her son Joshua in 2017. "I was just like, 'Oh excuse me, I'm going to need to go change my underwear, '" she said. "I kind of just laughed through it versus feeling shame. But then you start going through perimenopause and it's just all falling apart. So you just have to embrace it." She described it as a "natural progression of female existence" and did not believe that anyone should have to feel any kind of shame or embarrassment. Heigl portrayed Dr Izzie Stevens on the hit TV series Grey's Anatomy between 2005 and 2010, as well as starred in a string of romantic comedies in the 2000s including Knocked Up and 27 Dresses. Eric Dane's alleged girlfriend was ‘blindsided' by his red carpet debut with Janell Shirtcliff

Don't miss out on the headlines from Hook Ups & Break Ups. Followed categories will be added to My News. Eric Dane's alleged girlfriend, Priya Jain, was 'blindsided' by his red carpet debut with Janell Shirtcliff, Page Six has exclusively learned. 'They never broke up,' a source told Page Six on Thursday. The actor, 52, brought Shirtcliff to Wednesday's Los Angeles premiere of his new series, Countdown, with a source claiming to Entertainment Tonight that 'the two have been in an on-and-off relationship for over three years and care deeply for each other.' However, Page Six is told it was the first time Jain, 27, had ever heard of the director, 41. Our source said Jain, who has been photographed with Dane multiple times, met him last summer and that they became 'exclusive' in November 2024 — right before he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He announced his diagnosis in April. According to our source, Jain was 'devastated by the diagnosis' but stood by the Grey's Anatomy star's side. Interestingly, ET's source claimed that 'Eric asked Janell to be there for him during this time, and she wanted to show up for him.' It is understood told that since Jain and Dane met, she has spent almost every night at his house, where she has tons of clothes. The source added that the actress has even spent time with Dane's kids — daughters Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13 — whom he shares with Rebecca Gayheart. Gayheart, 53, has since clarified that she and her on-again, off-again husband are 'staying a family' and remain the 'best of friends.' Not only did Jain and Dane get matching star tattoos late last year, but the Euphoria star also gave her a tattoo with an at-home tattoo gun shortly after, it was claimed. The source added that the last time they saw each other was this past weekend, while the last time they were photographed together was mid-May. Reps for Dane, Jain and Shirtcliff did not immediately respond to Page Six's requests for comment. Eric Dane, who famously bathed with 2 women, now appears tangled up with 3

Eric Dane and filmmaker Janell Shirtcliff looked to be in full couple mode Wednesday at the premiere of Prime Video's "Countdown," a new series he stars in with Jensen Ackles. Hands were held; smiles and admiring glances were exchanged. He was definitely not with Rebecca Gayheart, whom he married in October 2004 and just said — on national news, no less — is the person he reaches out to daily for "stalwart" support. Nope, even though Gayheart in early March requested the dismissal, without prejudice, of the 2018 divorce petition she had filed against Dane. Read more: Eric Dane announces ALS diagnosis, will return to 'Euphoria' set next week Dane revealed in April that he had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a.k.a. ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease. Earlier this week, he revealed that he had lost function in his right arm due to the neuromuscular disease and felt his left arm failing. So who's dating whom? Dane's relationship status is a bit fuzzy. The "Grey's Anatomy" alum, 52, has been "in an on-and-off relationship" with Shirtcliff for more than three years, Entertainment Tonight reported Wednesday. The two "care deeply for each other," the outlet said, citing a source who added, "Eric asked Janell to be there for him during this time, and she wanted to show up for him." Shirtcliff, who is a photographer and director, is in pre-production on the film "Generation Angst" and post-production on the horror flick "Triton," according to IMDb. Jain and Dane met last summer and became "exclusive" in November 2024, the source said. "They never broke up." The two have been photographed arm-in-arm in public and have matching tattoos, and she has spent "almost every night" at his house since they coupled up, Page Six said. They reportedly were together last weekend. This three-way confusion is a tiny bit reminiscent of Dane and Gayheart's nude 2009 bathtub video with actor Kari Ann Peniche, which Dane discussed in 2019 with Glamour. In the leaked video, the three could be seen bathing together naked — not having sex — and discussing their potential porn names about 15 years into the Gayheart-Dane marriage. "I don't necessarily think I was breaking any laws and corrupting anybody. We were just three people taking a bath," he told the magazine. He added, referring at the time to the entirety of his past — including the bathtub video and his addiction to prescribed painkillers — 'I have no regrets nor do I make any apologies for my life experience. It's my life experience and I am at peace with all of it.' "I call Rebecca. I talk to her every day," Dane said Monday on "Good Morning America," fighting back tears as he talked about battling ALS. "We have managed to become better friends and better parents. And she is probably my biggest champion, my most stalwart supporter, and I lean on her."
