Pitt County Schools to offer free meals this summer
PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — With summer break right around the corner, Pitt County Schools' is gearing up for their summer feeding program. Starting June 16 until August 7, families in Pitt and surrounding counties can go to ten open sites offering breakfast and lunch on Monday through Thursday. These meals must be eaten on site, and all trays must be disposed of before leaving the site. They're also offering for the first time non-congregate feeding in the Bethel and Belvoir area. 'They are going to lose a lot of their nutrition capabilities depending on the household. SNAP benefits are available again this year, but not all families get that,' School Nutrition Director for Pitt County Schools, Gretchen Wilson said. 'So, we just want to make sure that there is an opportunity for everybody to get a meal at any income level to help subsidize Sunday food they have at home or to be their only meal but help get them through.' Breakfast will be from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and lunch will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Dates of operation are subject to change based on meal participation and times may vary by location. Gretchen Wilson reveals she was in a wheelchair for 6 MONTHS after horrific injury at her wedding
Gretchen Wilson revealed she had an accident at a wedding that left her leg 'shattered.' The Redneck Woman singer, 51, recently opened up about her leg injury left her wheelchair-bound for many months. She said the 'setback' happened while circle dancing with a six-year-old boy to Ring Around the Rosie when she lost her footing. During an appearance on Taste of Country Nights with Evan Paul this week, she recalled: 'We were at a wedding reception and it was on the beach, so they had thrown one of those Astroturf carpeting things over the sand.' The country music star, who was the latest winner of The Masked Singer, said she was 'doing the spin at 100 mph' when her ankle twisted in one of the holes from the Astroturf. 'You seen those videos online with the foot hanging the wrong way? It was one of those. Once I went down, I did not get back up.' She told the outlet that in the moment, she thought that she wouldn't be able to perform again. Wilson also recalled how it took nine months before she could even put any pressure on that foot following her injury. She said that after months of recovery, she received the offer to join The Masked Singer — which would require her to not only sing but also dance again. She admitted that she previously rejected that call in the past but wanted to get back on stage again and welcomed the opportunity. 'All the choreography, it was stressful, but it was good for me,' she said. 'It was hard work. It was really good for me and I proved a lot to myself,' she said while reflecting on her time on the singing competition series. Wilson appeared on the 13th season of Fox's reality show and won as the character Pearl. She said the 'setback' happened while circle dancing with a six-year-old boy to Ring Around the Rosie when she lost her footing; pictured November 2019 in Nashville Earlier this month, the country singer, who had been caught up in scandal and arrests in prior years, said she 'felt bad' that she won the Golden Mask trophy over Boogie Woogie, who was revealed as singer Andy Grammer. 'I was absolutely positive that Boogie won. I thought he was just the most amazing singer,' Wilson, whose last album was her 2017 release Ready To Get Rowdy, told People. 'In my head, he had won it weeks before,' she confessed. 'I was so stunned because I had myself ready to hear that I was second place. I was so ready for it, I had already decided that that's what it should be in my head.' After she was announced as the winner, she admitted: 'But being a mom, I felt bad. It was like, "No, no, no, no, no, no, I'm happy with second! He won! 'I think that's probably how he would've felt too. He's just such an incredibly, incredibly likable person. I wished I could have shared it with him.' After being unmasked she said that she felt her win was the 'career comeback' she was waiting for. Wilson first rose to fame with her first single Redneck Woman in 2004 as her debut album became certified 5x platinum. 'I've had a rough couple of years. I was injured. I was in a wheelchair,' she said. 'And there was a moment where I didn't think I'd ever get back to this place,' Wilson admitted. 'And I worked really hard, I prayed really hard, and I got so far. But this opportunity has really proven to me that there's nothing I can't do.'

CBS Sets Record With 17th Straight Season Victory in Total Viewers
CBS will make a little bit of TV history when the 2024-25 season wraps. The network is set to finish its 17th straight season as the No. 1 broadcaster among all viewers in primetime, a streak that dates back to the 2008-09 season. The 17 consecutive season wins tops the previous mark, also held by CBS, of 16 straight from 1955-70 (when household ratings were the primary measure). So as it did a year ago and several other times in the recent past, the network is planting its victory flag now. There's good news across the board, however: Among the big four broadcasters, three have improved their primetime averages from this time last season, and the fourth, ABC, is even with its year-ago numbers. The gains largely come down to networks having a full season's worth of programming: As writers and actors went on strike for better contracts in 2023, most scripted programming was pushed to the first quarter of 2024, resulting in shorter seasons and a hodgepodge of mostly lower-rated shows filling the first half of the 2023-24 season. Through April 20, CBS is averaging 5.72 million viewers in primetime with all programming, up from 5.59 million a year ago (a gain of about 2 percent). NBC is also up by about 2 percent at 5.1 million viewers. Stripping out sports, CBS' lead is a little larger. It's averaging 4.99 million viewers in primetime, up 14 percent from the same time last season. NBC places second with 4 million viewers excluding sports, followed by ABC (3.58 million) and Fox (2.16 million). Tracker is set to repeat as the most watched non-sports series in 2024-25. The drama starring Justin Hartley is the only network entertainment show to average more than 10 million viewers before streaming; it's currently at 10.84 million viewers over seven days, with two episodes remaining in its season. CBS has the top seven and eight of the top 10 non-sports shows in total viewers with Matlock (second), 60 Minutes (third), FBI (fourth), Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage (fifth), Blue Bloods (sixth), NCIS (seventh) and Elsbeth (ninth) joining Tracker. Louisiana stars win big at 2025 ACM Awards, with country favorites headed near you soon
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Louisiana showed up at the 2025 ACM Awards, which aired live from Frisco, Texas, on May 8, 2025. Some of the night's biggest stars are either from right here in our backyard or headed our way soon. Kix Brooks, born and raised in Shreveport, took the stage once again as one half of Brooks & Dunn, who grabbed another Duo of the Year win. The legendary pair's long connection to Louisiana's music roots was front and center, proof that Shreveport's influence on country music hasn't slowed down a bit. Jordan Davis, another hometown name, was also in the building. The Shreveport native served as a presenter this year, standing among the top names in country music. Davis has long credited his time growing up in Shreveport for shaping his sound, and now he's bringing that local legacy to national stages. Several artists who lit up the ACM stage are set to perform in the Shreveport-Bossier area over the next few months, making the celebration feel even closer to home. Lainey Wilson, who dominated the night with four major wins, including Entertainer of the Year, is coming to Bossier City later this year as part of her Whirlwind Tour. Wilson, a Baskin, Louisiana native, also took home Female Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Artist-Songwriter of the Year. She's no stranger to northwest Louisiana and now she's bringing that winning streak back to the region. Parker McCollum, who stepped in as a presenter during the show, is also Shreveport-bound. The Texas artist has a stop booked at Brookshire Grocery Arena this July, keeping his strong fan base in Louisiana close. Gretchen Wilson reveals why she 'felt bad' about winning The Masked Singer
Fox's The Masked Singer brought its 13th season to a close in epic fashion on Wednesday with a two-hour finale that revealed Gretchen Wilson as the winner. The 51-year-old singer shot into the stratosphere with her first single Redneck Woman in 2004, with her debut album certified 5x platinum. More than two decades later, Wilson stunned fans week after week under the Pearl costume on The Masked Singer, ultimately taking home The Golden Mask trophy over Boogie Woogie, who was revealed as singer Andy Grammer. After her big win, Wilson, whose last album was 2017's Ready To Get Rowdy, revealed that she was quite surprised to win in a new interview with People. She revealed that in the weeks leading up to the finale, she was so positive that Boogie Woogie would win that she actually 'felt bad' for winning. The singer and mother to 24-year-old Gracie revealed, 'I was absolutely positive that Boogie won. I thought he was just the most amazing singer.' 'In my head, he had won it weeks before. I was so stunned because I had myself ready to hear that I was second place. I was so ready for it, I had already decided that that's what it should be in my head,' Wilson admitted. There were four singers left heading into the finale - Pearl, Boogie Woogie, Coral (Meg Donnelly) and Mad Scientist Monster (Florida Georgia Line's Brian Kelley). After she was announced as the winner, Wilson admitted, 'But being a mom, I felt bad. It was like, "No, no, no, no, no, no, I'm happy with second! He won!"' she said. Wilson added, 'I think that's probably how he would've felt, too. He's just such an incredibly, incredibly likable person. I wished I could have shared it with him.' She admitted after being unmasked, 'I've had a rough couple of years. I was injured. I was in a wheelchair. And there was a moment where I didn't think I'd ever get back to this place. And I worked really hard, I prayed really hard, and I got so far. But this opportunity has really proven to me that there's nothing I can't do.' The singer also added in the new interview that, despite 'feeling bad' about the win, she still views it as, 'a career comeback.' 'I feel like it's sort of a comeback moment. I'm ready to take on anything,' Wilson said, adding she wanted to do the show to prove that she's more than a 'redneck woman.' 'I've had to spend a lot of time being that rough and tumble, girl next door, no dresses, no makeup, just be kind of plain Jane kind of girl. So, when I saw that costume, I was like, this is an opportunity for me to be a girly girl,' she admitted. She admitted after being unmasked, 'I've had a rough couple of years. I was injured. I was in a wheelchair. And there was a moment where I didn't think I'd ever get back to this place. And I worked really hard, I prayed really hard, and I got so far. But this opportunity has really proven to me that there's nothing I can't do' 'This is an opportunity for me to be a side of me that I don't often get to show because it's not what people are expecting from me,' Wilson admitted. When asked if winning the show helped show another side to her, Wilson said, 'I feel like that there are a lot of people out there who had me summed up as this one thing, that are now going to be able to go, 'Oh, wow, she's multidimensional.'' 'There was a big part of me that was just like, I want people to see that I'm not just that one thing that they have decided that I am. That was important to me,' she said. When asked if dressing up as Pearl unleashed more of her 'girly' side, she admitted, 'it did rub off a little bit.' 'I did buy a dress for an award show. I'm not going to wear it, but I bought it. That's a step in the right direction,' she joked.
