Guy Gardner Returns In Lanterns Following Superman Debut, And I'm Digging What Nathan Fillion Said About How His Character Will Be Different In The DCU Show

As someone who's been a Green Lantern fan for over 15 years and was disappointed by how Ryan Reynolds' Green Lantern movie turned out, I'm thrilled that this DC Comics property is getting another shot at live-action thanks to the DC Universe. First, we'll see the bowl cut-boasting Guy Gardner in action next month in James Gunn's Superman, and then we'll meet fellow Green Lantern Corps members Hal Jordan and John Stewart in Lanterns next year. It was announced at the end of March that Nathan Fillion will also reprise Guy in that upcoming DC TV show, and I'm digging what the actor had to say about how his Green Lantern character will differ there compared to how he's depicted in Superman. Lanterns will mark Fillion's third time playing Guy, as he's appearing in Peacemaker Season 2 this August alongside fellow Justice Gang member Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) and the team's benefactor, Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn). However, 2026 will be the first time we see this version of Guy interact with other Green Lanterns, and here's what the star of ABC's The Rookie said to EW about how that will look: I think he feels a little bit higher strung in Lanterns. I've done a scene in Lanterns, we filmed it already, where he's contently smug. It's neat to see him in different environments and how those different environments will affect a character. Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre are respectively playing these characters in Lanterns, which will follow them investigating a murder in the American heartland. It's unclear how Guy will get involved, but I'm guessing this will be his first time meeting John and one of his many interactions with Hal if they've both been in the Green Lantern Corps for a while. Fillion also spent some time talking about Guy Gardner's overinflated ego, and how he's a prime example that just because you're a Green Lantern doesn't make you a role model. In the actor's words: What is very true about Guy you don't have to be good and pure of heart to be a Green Lantern. You just have to be fearless. You just have to have the will. And Guy Gardner thinks he can take on Superman. That's how fearless he is. No, you can't take on Superman, dude. I'm curious to learn how Guy Garner ends up factoring into Lanterns, as this story is about Hal and John, so he should only be there to support them rather than steal the show. That said, considering this Green Lantern TV show will also feature Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, I wouldn't mind whatsoever seeing Guy trash talk the Korugarian who was once a Green Lantern and now wields the yellow energy of fear. If there's one thing Guy knows how to do, it's annoy an adversary… and his allies too, actually. Lanterns is expected to premiere on HBO sometime in early 2026, with episodes also being available to stream with a Max subscription. Watch Nathan Fillion bring Guy Gardner to life for the first time when Superman is released on July 11.

This DC superhero is confirmed to appear in 3 upcoming shows and movies — including 'Superman' and 'Peacemaker'

With the reveal of the "Peacemaker" season 2 trailer, we got more than just a release date for the Max superhero show — we got a third confirmed casting of Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner. Yes, you're reading that right. It's not the Man of Steel that's seemingly on every DC show or movie call sheet. Heck, he's not even the best Green Lantern (that would be John Stewart). No, it's Guy Gardner and his absurd bowl cut. For what it's worth, I am fine with this. I love Nathan Fillion as an actor, so I'm not complaining about getting more of him in the upcoming DC slate. Also, as much as I don't love Guy Gardner, he'll certainly be useful for tonally changing any scene that gets too serious. So, without further ado, here are the three upcoming DC shows and movies where you'll be able to see Nathan Fillion donning his Green Lantern ring as Guy Gardner, in order of release date. We don't get much of Fillion's Guy Gardner in the first "Superman" trailer. At the 1:43 mark, we get a shot of his blonde bowl cut and him blasting his Green Lantern ring, and that's it. But Fillion himself has shed a bit more light on Gardner's role in the upcoming Man of Steel movie. "He's a jerk!" Fillion told TV Guide back in March. "I think if he has a superpower, it might be his overconfidence, in that he thinks he could take on Superman. He can't!" Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. That wasn't all he had to say about Gardner, either. "What's important to know is, you don't have to be good to be a Green Lantern; you just have to be fearless." Fillion explained. "So Guy Gardner is fearless, and he is not very good. He's not nice, which is very freeing as an actor because you just think to yourself, what is the most selfish, self-serving thing I can do in this moment? And that's the answer." We get a look at Fillion as Gardner almost immediately in the "Peacemaker" season 2 trailer. The trailer kicks off with Chris Smith, aka Peacemaker (John Cena), interviewing for the Justice Gang. In the room interviewing him are Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn), Kendra Saunders, aka Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) and Gardner. The interview doesn't go well, with Peacemaker not getting the gig. But we do get of Gardner being a jerk, and we'll get to see more when the season 2 premiere arrives on Max on August 21 at 9 p.m. ET. "Lanterns" is an upcoming HBO show centered around two Green Lanterns: Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre). In this show, Stewart is a new recruit to the Lantern Corps, who is partnered up with Jordan to investigate a murder in the American heartland. It's being billed as a dark, Earth-based mystery show with consequences for the greater DC universe. While we don't know exactly what role Fillion's Gardner will play in "Lanterns," he confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that he'll be in the upcoming HBO show. Malcolm has been with Tom's Guide since 2022, and has been covering the latest in streaming shows and movies since 2023. He's not one to shy away from a hot take, including that "John Wick" is one of the four greatest films ever made. Here's what he's been watching lately:

Nathan Fillion to Play Guy Gardner in DC's "Lanterns"

Yara Sameh HBO's upcoming DC series 'Lanterns' has tapped Nathan Fillion to play Guy Gardner, one of multiple Green Lanterns in the cast. This will be far from Fillion's first time playing a Lantern. He debuted as one of DC's green heroes in the 2011 animated film 'Green Lantern: Emerald Knights.' In it, he was the voice actor for Hal Jordan, one of many members of the Green Lantern Corps. He played the role again in 2012's 'Justice League: Doom,' 2013's 'Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox,' 2015's 'Justice League: Throne of Atlantis,' 2018's 'The Death of Superman' and 2019's 'Reign of the Supermen.' Each of the animated films was a straight-to-DVD release. In 2023, he was cast as a Green Lantern in James Gunn's live-action film 'Superman,' but as Gardner instead of Jordan. The film opens in theaters via Warner Bros. this July. 'Lanterns' stars Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. Per the official logline, the series 'follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.' Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan and Ulrich Thomsen also star. Chris Mundy serves as showrunner of 'Lanterns,' and wrote the pilot with Damon Lindelof and Tom King. All three executive produce alongside Gunn, Peter Safran, Ron Schmidt and James Hawes, who is directing the first two episodes. Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel and Alik Sakharov will also direct. The series entered production in February. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Lifestyle Pistachio and Raspberry Cheesecake Domes Recipe Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Videos & Features Bouchra Dahlab Crowned Miss Arab World 2025 ..
