Today, we continue our look at the best players at each position through the regional events with the running backs. The Sacramento State commit did a nice job of catching the ball out of the backfield. His shiftiness created real mismatch problems for linebackers. Advertisement Despite being committed to the Hornets since March, the California native is still hearing from programs including UCLA. ANDREW BEARD - Atlanta Beard upped his stock after earning MVP honors at the Rivals Camp Series in Atlanta. He was exceptional catching the football out of the backfield and was routing up opposing linebackers, who struggled to keep pace with speed and quick cuts. The four-star prospect is a three-down playmaker and proved as much in the camp setting. He's hearing from Georgia, Penn State and Georgia Tech most right now in his recruitment. SEAN MORRIS - Los Angeles Morris did a great job throughout the entire camp whether it was during position drills, running back/linebacker blocking drills when he showed off an excellent physical nature and then during one-on-ones when he got open and created space against linebackers. Advertisement Camps are not the easiest setting for running backs but Morris showed off all his tools. He displayed quick feet, physical toughness with his blocking and the ability to catch the ball coming out of the backfield. Northwestern may have gotten a steal with him out of California. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH NORTHWESTERN FANS AT VICTOR SANTINO - Los Angeles Santino is a player that has been coming to Rivals Camp Series events since his freshman year. The 2026 running back is muscled up, looks great on the hoof and runs with determination and smoothness at the same time. It looks like he's gliding through the drills. Advertisement It's easy to see why Cal is thrilled to have landed his commitment in June. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH CAL FANS AT LATHAN WHISENTON - Dallas Whisenton was a force at the running back position. The first thing that comes to mind when remembering his performance was his run blocking ability in drills. But he also more than held his own catching passes out of the backfield. Whisenton is built to run between the tackles and boasts speed to separate from defenders in coverage and soft hands on the receiving end. He's a 2027 back with the arrow pointing up early on. That's why Texas and Ole Miss are his two latest offers.

Canadian man wins lottery 4 times after surviving cancer battle, beating 1-in-33 million odds

A cancer survivor from Alberta, Canada, has managed to turn astronomical odds in his favour, not once, not twice, but four times. According to a report by Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC), David Serkin recently won $1 million in the May LOTTO 6/49 Classic draw. This latest win marks Serkin's third lottery jackpot in just nine months, TODAY reported. He previously won $500,000 in August 2024 and $1 million in November. But his lucky streak stretches even further back: He had earlier bagged $250,000 in another lottery draw. 'I know the odds are astronomical. I don't think it'll happen again, but I still like buying tickets," Serkin said in a press release issued by the WCLC. He's been playing LOTTO 6/49 since it launched in 1982, and his persistence appears to be paying off in a major way. The WCLC says that the odds of winning the LOTTO MAX jackpot are 1 in 33 million, making Serkin's repeated wins even more unbelievable. 'You check your ticket and if you win, you're happy. If you don't, you can always try again,' Serkin said. 'I'm a cancer survivor and I'm retired, so I am just grateful for all of it. I bought this ticket while I was getting gas. I saw the Gold Ball draw was getting close to the final ball selection and thought, 'What do I have to lose?'' Serkin says his friends and family are stunned by his lottery success. He once discovered he had won while grabbing coffee with friends, a surreal moment in an already improbable story. He plans to use the money to make up for lost time with his wife, who supported him during his cancer battle. 'I took my wife to Hawaii with the last win, and we had a great time. Now, we're going to Newfoundland!' he said. (Also read: Kerala man wins $1 million jackpot in Dubai lottery for the second time)

Cancer survivor hits 3 huge lottery prizes in 9 months. ‘Odds are astronomical'

A Canadian man is celebrating his third huge lottery win in nine months. David Serkin won $500,000 in August 2024 playing LOTTO MAX. Then, in November, he won $1 million playing LOTTO 6/49, according to a June 2 news release from the Western Canada Lottery Corporation. Now, after buying a ticket from a gas station in Lethbridge, Alberta, Serkin hit again in the May 3 LOTTO 6/49 Classic drawing, winning another $1 million prize. 'I know the odds are astronomical,' he told lottery officials. 'I don't think it'll happen again, but I still like buying tickets.' Within nine months, he's won $2.5 million. The odds of winning the LOTTO MAX jackpot are 1 in 33,294,800, according to lottery officials. 'You check your ticket and if you win, you're happy. If you don't, you can always try again,' he said. 'I'm a cancer survivor and I'm retired, so I am just grateful for all of it.' Serkin said he has been playing LOTTO 6/49 since it launched in 1982. 'I bought this ticket while I was buying gas,' he said. 'I saw the Gold Ball draw was getting close [to the final ball selection] and thought, 'What do I have to lose?'' This third win has left the people around him astounded. 'I went for coffee with the boys after I checked my ticket,' he said. 'They asked to see it and said, 'Not again?!'' Serkin said his wife is also in disbelief, but he plans to take her on a special trip. 'I took my wife to Hawaii with the last win, and we had a great time,' he smiled. 'Now, we're going to Newfoundland!'

Lethbridge local wins lottery for the third time in less than a year

David Serkin of Lethbridge has taken home his third large lottery prize in less than a year. The cancer survivor won $500,000 on the August 20 LOTTO MAX draw, $1 million on the November 16 LOTTO 6/49 draw and most recently $1 million prize on the May 3 LOTTO 6/49 Classic draw, totalling $2.5 million in lottery wins in less than nine months. He also won a $250,000 lottery prize 12 years ago. Western Canada Lottery Corp. described this win as rare in a news release, saying the odds of winning the LOTTO MAX jackpot or a MAXMILLIONS prize are both 1 in 33,294,800. The odds of winning the LOTTO 6/49 $5 million Classic Draw are 1 in 13,983,816. 'I know the odds are astronomical,' Serkin told Lotto Spot. 'I don't think it'll happen again, but I still like buying tickets.' Serkin won his $1 million prize on the May 3 LOTTO 6/49 Gold Ball draw with the selection 24645097-05, a white ball. The odds for the Gold Ball Draw are determined for each draw by the total number of selections issued across Canada. He purchased the ticket while buying gas, and seeing the Gold Ball draw getting close to the final ball selection, asked himself 'what do I have to lose?' He described his family as being in disbelief of the win. 'I went for coffee with the boys after I checked my ticket,' he said. 'They asked to see it and said, 'Not again?!'' Serkin said he took his wife to Hawaii after his last win, and is planning a trip to Newfoundland with his latest prize. Multiple wins, while unusual, are a well-known phenomenon in lottery play all over the world, according to WCLC spokesperson Emily Olsen. WCLC reviewed Serkin's recent wins and concluded that they are all legitimate, having purchased his winning tickets four months apart and at different retail locations. 'Since wins occur randomly — without a pattern and by chance — multiple wins are entirely possible and do happen,' Olsen said. WCLC conducts reviews when unusual occurrences such as Serkin's wins take place. This does not indicate suspicion, but is to demonstrate WCLC's commitment to ensuring the right prize is paid to the right player. The Lethbridge local has been playing since LOTTO 6/49 launched in 1982. His most recent winning ticket was purchased from Shell Lethbridge at 2440 Fairway Plaza Road S in Lethbridge. Serkin isn't the only lucky Albertan playing the lottery. The province saw 55 people taking home prizes of $1 million or higher in 2024, totalling $237.3 million. That compares to 11 winners in both Saskatchewan and Manitoba, where players in there were awarded $17 million and $53 million respectively. Calgarians took home the most out of the larger prairie cities, ending up with $108.3 million among 22 winners. The next luckiest were Edmontonians, where 12 jackpot tickets racked up $23 million. WCLC's largest prize in 2024 — $70 million — was won by Beaverlodge resident Brian Hoover. The second largest prize — $66 million — was won by Calgarian James Jutzi. Those lopsided windfall results can be attributed to Alberta — and Calgary's — larger populations and a greater tendency for people here to try their luck, said Olsen. She said 60 per cent of the lottery company's sales are made in Alberta, with 20 per cent each in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Calgary currently has one unclaimed prize of $1 million from a LOTTO/649 ticket purchased on Aug. 24, 2025 with the winning numbers 26209629-02. — Files from Bill Kaufmann
