Dubai Police rescue driver 'in minutes' after cruise control malfunctions on Sheikh Zayed Road
Dubai Police traffic patrols swiftly rescued a driver whose cruise control had unexpectedly malfunctioned on Sheikh Zayed Road, authorities said on Saturday. '(Our) operations room received a report about a vehicle travelling at a constant speed on Sheikh Zayed Road towards Abu Dhabi, with the female driver unable to regain control due to the cruise control malfunction,' said Maj Gen Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police. 'Just minutes after receiving the report, the traffic patrols were immediately dispatched to the location and spotted the vehicle traveling in the fourth lane. 'They coordinated a careful escort while guiding the female driver through phone calls and direct instructions, informing her of the necessary steps to take in such situations to ensure her safety and that of others,' he added. How they did it Al Mazrouei explained one of the patrols positioned itself in front of the vehicle, gradually stopping it, while the other patrols secured the lane behind it. The patrols created a safe corridor in front of and behind the vehicle, keeping other cars at a distance to prevent any potential collisions, which allowed for a safe stop on the side of the road without any injuries or damage. Al Mazrouei said the swift response and effective coordination between the operations room and field patrols were vital for successfully managing the situation. He praised the traffic teams for their professional and compassionate handling of emergencies, demonstrating Dubai Police's commitment to rapid responses and road safety. He also urged all drivers to perform regular vehicle checks and ensure the safety of critical systems, such as brakes and cruise control, emphasising that awareness and preventive measures are essential to prevent dangerous malfunctions.

Saudi: Absher carries out over 33mln e-transactions in March
RIYADH — The Ministry of Interior's electronic platform Absher has processed a total of 33,644,074 electronic transactions via its Absher Individuals and Absher Business platforms during March 2025. Of the total, 31,504,684 transactions were conducted via the Absher Individuals platform. These included 24,105,114 document reviews through the digital wallet service, available to citizens, residents, and visitors through the Absher app. The Absher Business platform recorded 2,139,390 transactions. The General Directorate of Public Security carried out 2,694,362 transactions during the same period, including 2,606,512 transactions by the General Department of Traffic, 3,851,454 by the General Directorate of Passports, and 330,745 by the Ministerial Agency of Civil Affairs. Extended period for payment of discounted traffic fines comes to an end
RIYADH — The Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday the end of the extended grace period for the payment of the discounted traffic fines accumulated before April 18, 2024. The ministry urged all road users to comply with traffic regulations to ensure traffic safety. Earlier, the General Department of Traffic called on those concerned to take advantage of the 50 percent discount on traffic violations, and pay them before the April 18 2025 deadline, as the fines would revert to their original value after that date. According to the grace period, announced on April 18, 2024, 50 percent discount in traffic fines allows the perpetrators to make payment of fines either in one lump sum or separately for each violation. As per the previous royal directive, the reduction covered all violations committed before April 18, 2024 and all accumulated traffic fines must be settled within six months starting from April 18 until October 18, 2024 so as to benefit from this reduction. In October 2024, the Ministry of Interior announced the extension of the grace period for another six months. Dubai Police Distributes Over 325,000 Iftar Meals to Ensure Safer Roads During Ramadan
In a dedicated effort to enhance traffic safety and prevent accidents, Dubai Police has distributed more than 325,250 iftar meals to motorists as part of the 'Ramadan Without Accidents' campaign. Running since the start of the holy month, the initiative aims to curb reckless driving during the moments leading up to Maghrib (sunset prayer)—a time when many motorists rush to break their fast, often resulting in accidents. Addressing a Critical Time on the Roads Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic, highlighted that the Traffic Awareness Department has implemented this initiative in collaboration with key partners, including the RTA, Dubai Civil Defence, Dubai Health Authority, Emirates Red Crescent, and several private sector entities, with the support of over 375 volunteers. Curbing Risky Driving Before Iftar Al Mazrouei noted that traffic violations and accidents peak during iftar time, with drivers speeding or jumping signals in an attempt to reach their destination before sunset. He urged motorists to plan ahead, follow traffic rules, and exercise patience, stressing that 'Arriving late and safe is better than not arriving at all.' A Spirit of Social Unity He further praised the volunteers and partner organizations, emphasizing that the campaign reflects the UAE's values of compassion and community solidarity. Saudi:Absher carries out over 24mln e-transactions in February
RIYADH — The Ministry of Interior's electronic platform Absher has processed 24,266,498 electronic transactions during the last month of February 2025, serving beneficiaries through Absher Individuals and Absher Business portals. The Absher Individuals platform carried out 21,993,417 transactions, and these included 14,597,218 document reviews via the platform's digital wallet, accessible to citizens, residents, and visitors through the Absher app. Absher Business facilitated 2,273,081 transactions. The platform also processed 3,010,233 transactions related to the General Directorate of Public Security, 2,904,774 transactions pertaining to the General Department of Traffic, 2,597,611 transactions related to the General Directorate of Passports, and 463,018 transactions pertaining to the Agency of the Ministry of Interior for Passports and Civil Affairs. Additionally, 89,012 document delivery requests were completed by mail, 80,815 Absher reports were issued, and 1,762 general fingerprint inquiries were made through the public services available on Absher Individuals. The number of unified digital identities issued by the Ministry of Interior through Absher has surpassed 28 million.
