Extended period for payment of discounted traffic fines comes to an end
RIYADH — The Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday the end of the extended grace period for the payment of the discounted traffic fines accumulated before April 18, 2024. The ministry urged all road users to comply with traffic regulations to ensure traffic safety.
Earlier, the General Department of Traffic called on those concerned to take advantage of the 50 percent discount on traffic violations, and pay them before the April 18 2025 deadline, as the fines would revert to their original value after that date.
According to the grace period, announced on April 18, 2024, 50 percent discount in traffic fines allows the perpetrators to make payment of fines either in one lump sum or separately for each violation. As per the previous royal directive, the reduction covered all violations committed before April 18, 2024 and all accumulated traffic fines must be settled within six months starting from April 18 until October 18, 2024 so as to benefit from this reduction.
In October 2024, the Ministry of Interior announced the extension of the grace period for another six months. This was in implementation of the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.

Dubai Police traffic patrols swiftly rescued a driver whose cruise control had unexpectedly malfunctioned on Sheikh Zayed Road, authorities said on Saturday. How they did it Al Mazrouei explained one of the patrols positioned itself in front of the vehicle, gradually stopping it, while the other patrols secured the lane behind it. The patrols created a safe corridor in front of and behind the vehicle, keeping other cars at a distance to prevent any potential collisions, which allowed for a safe stop on the side of the road without any injuries or damage. Al Mazrouei said the swift response and effective coordination between the operations room and field patrols were vital for successfully managing the situation. He praised the traffic teams for their professional and compassionate handling of emergencies, demonstrating Dubai Police's commitment to rapid responses and road safety. He also urged all drivers to perform regular vehicle checks and ensure the safety of critical systems, such as brakes and cruise control, emphasising that awareness and preventive measures are essential to prevent dangerous malfunctions.

Saudia Group transports 3,900 Iranian Pilgrims daily
Jeddah: In line with the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and the recommendation of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Saudia Group continues to operate dedicated flights to support the return of pilgrims from the Islamic Republic of Iran. Saudi sovereign fund PIF launches new company to run Expo 2030
Saudi Arabia's $925 billion sovereign wealth fund PIF said on Thursday it had launched a new unit that will be responsible to build and operate the facilities for the Expo 2030 world fair. The company will be called Expo 2030 Riyadh Company, PIF said in a statement to Reuters, adding that the masterplan for the project covered an area of 6 million square metres to the north of the city, close to the future King Salman International Airport. Expo 2030 is set to take place the same year Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman's economic diversification plan culminates. Under the programme, dubbed Vision 2030, the Gulf country is pouring billions in sectors including tourism to wean its economy off oil revenues. Expo 2030 represents another large-scale building project that the kingdom has committed to on a strict deadline, even as its economy faces lower oil prices. Oil prices have jumped to mid-seventies in recent weeks as investors weighed the chance of supply disruptions from the Iran-Israel conflict. Saudi Arabia is committed to hosting several other large international events in succession, each of which require significant spending on construction and development, including the 2029 Asian Winter Games and the 2034 World Cup.
