CHANDIGARH: With two individuals allegedly involved in espionage activities linked to the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan been apprehended by the Punjab Police on June 22, 12 persons have been arrested in the State on such charges so far. Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said that the accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gopy Foji and Sahil Masih alias Shali. "Preliminary investigation revealed that Gurpreet Singh was in direct contact with operatives of Pakistan's ISI and was suspected of sharing sensitive and confidential information via pen drives. The key ISI handler involved in the case has been identified as Rana Javed," Yadav said. "Two mobile phones used to communicate with ISI operatives had been seized. Investigations are underway to dismantle the broader espionage-terror network and identify all collaborators.'' Sources said that the list of arrested alleged 'spies' includes Gagandeep Singh from Mohalla Roudpur, Tarn Taran, who was arrested on June 3 and Jasbir Singh alias Jaan Mahal from Mahlan village in Ropar who was taken into custody on June 4. Jasbir was allegedly a close aide of Haryana-based YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra who was arrested by Haryana Police. Earlier, on May 11, the Punjab Police had arrested a 31-year-old woman, Guzala, and her associate, Yameen Mohammad, from Malerkotla for allegedly aiding a Pakistani official posted at the High Commission in Delhi.

New Delhi: In a major intelligence-based operation, Amritsar Rural Police in Punjab apprehended two persons suspected of espionage activities linked to Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said this on his X handle on Sunday, also announcing the identities of the two accused. The arrested accused were identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gopy Foji and Sahil Masih alias Shali. The preliminary investigation has revealed that Gurpreet Singh was in direct contact with operatives of the Pakistan ISI and is suspected of sharing sensitive and confidential information via pen drives. The key ISI handler involved in the case has been identified as Rana Javed, said the DGP in his post. 'Two mobile phones reportedly used to communicate with ISI operatives has been seized,' the post further said. The DGP said that investigations 'are underway to dismantle the broader espionage-terror network.' He also said that the probe is aimed at identifying all collaborators. DGP Yadav in the post said that the Punjab Police remain committed to safeguarding the sovereignty and integrity of the nation and will take all necessary actions against those involved in anti-national activities. Earlier in an operation, the Punjab Police arrested a spy with links to ISI and Pakistan-based Khalistani supporter Gopal Singh Chawla. The accused, Gagandeep Singh, was arrested in Tarn Taran on June 2. According to officials, he had been leaking sensitive and classified information, including details of troop deployments and strategic locations, posing a serious threat to national security. Investigations have also revealed that the accused had been sharing classified information, including troop deployments, strategic locations, and army movements during Operation Sindoor, posing a serious threat to national security, the DGP had said. The police teams recovered two mobile devices from the possession of the accused, containing sensitive intelligence that he shared with the Pakistani intelligence operatives, as well as the details of over 20 ISI contacts. The accused has also received payments from operatives via Indian channels. On June 21, in a major breakthrough, Amritsar Commissionerate Police dismantled a Pakistan-backed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module being operated by UK-based handler Dharam Singh, alias Dharma Sandhu, with the arrest of a local operative and recovered six sophisticated foreign-made pistols from his possession, said DGP Gaurav Yadav on Saturday. The arrested accused were identified as Onkar Singh, alias Nawab, a resident of Jalalusma village in Amritsar. The weapons, smuggled via drones from across the India-Pakistan border, include four 9MM Glock pistols and two .30 bore PX5 pistols.

Chandigarh: The Punjab Police, under the state govt's 'war against drugs' initiative, arrested 117 drug smugglers on Saturday and recovered 7.5 kg of heroin, 500 grams of opium, and Rs 39,640 in drug money from their possession. In the last 112 days, the police have arrested 18,524 drug smugglers. The operation was conducted on the directions of the director general of police (DGP), Punjab, Gaurav Yadav simultaneously in all the 28 police districts of the state. Special director general of police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla informed that over 200 police teams, comprising over 1,300 police personnel, under the supervision of 87 gazetted officers, conducted raids at as many as 481 locations across the state. The opeartion led to the registration of 84 FIRs, said the ADGP, adding that the police teams also checked 501 suspicious persons during the day-long operation, he said. The state govt has enforced a three-pronged strategy — enforcement, deaddiction and prevention (EDP) — to eradicate drugs from the state, said Shukla. The Punjab Police, as part of the 'de-addiction' drive, convinced 74 people to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment, he added.

(Representative image/ANI)(ANI) Police also recovered 6.15 kg of heroin, a .30 bore pistol with four cartridges and ₹ 10,000 cash from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav. The accused have been identified as Lovepreet Singh alias Love and Balwinder Singh alias Bobby, Yadav said in a post on X. "Preliminary investigation reveals the accused were in direct contact with a #Pakistan-based smuggler via #WhatsApp, indicating a strong cross-border nexus," the DGP said. An FIR has been registered in the matter at Lopoke police station in Amritsar. Further investigations are underway to trace forward and backward linkages, Yadav said.

Amid the ongoing 'Yudh Nasheyan Virudh' campaign, Punjab Police Friday carried out a special operation aimed at checking all vehicles entering or exiting the border state of Punjab to keep tab on drug trafficking and liquor smuggling. During the operation, conducted from 6 am to 2 pm simultaneously in all districts on the directions of Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, all SSPs of border districts were directed to organise joint naka operations at strategic places and mobilise a maximum number of manpower to lay strong 'nakas' at sealing points under the supervision of Gazetted officers/SHOs. Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla said that nakas involving over 900 Police Personnel were set up under the supervision of inspectors/DSPs in at least 93 entry/exit points of 10 districts, which share boundaries with four border states and Chandigarh. The 10 inter-state border districts include Pathankot, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Fazilka, Ropar, SAS Nagar, Patiala, Sangrur, Mansa, Hoshiarpur and Bathinda. He said that 3,180 vehicles entering/exiting the state were checked, of which 367 were challaned and seven were impounded during the operation. Apart from this, police teams have continued its cordon and search operation (CASO) against drugs on Day 111, and conducted raids at 505 locations on Friday leading to the arrest of 127 drug smugglers after registration of 98 FIRs across the state. With this, the number of total drug smugglers arrested has reached 18,372 in 111 days. Shukla added that raids have resulted in recovery of 4.2 kg heroin, 3 kg opium, 118 kg poppy husk and Rs 11,170 drug money from the possession of arrested drug smugglers. He said that over 200 police teams, comprising over 1,500 police personnel conducted the raids.
