Entry points to Punjab sealed at 93 locations for anti-smuggling drive
Amid the ongoing 'Yudh Nasheyan Virudh' campaign, Punjab Police Friday carried out a special operation aimed at checking all vehicles entering or exiting the border state of Punjab to keep tab on drug trafficking and liquor smuggling.
During the operation, conducted from 6 am to 2 pm simultaneously in all districts on the directions of Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, all SSPs of border districts were directed to organise joint naka operations at strategic places and mobilise a maximum number of manpower to lay strong 'nakas' at sealing points under the supervision of Gazetted officers/SHOs.
Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla said that nakas involving over 900 Police Personnel were set up under the supervision of inspectors/DSPs in at least 93 entry/exit points of 10 districts, which share boundaries with four border states and Chandigarh. The 10 inter-state border districts include Pathankot, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Fazilka, Ropar, SAS Nagar, Patiala, Sangrur, Mansa, Hoshiarpur and Bathinda.
He said that 3,180 vehicles entering/exiting the state were checked, of which 367 were challaned and seven were impounded during the operation.
Apart from this, police teams have continued its cordon and search operation (CASO) against drugs on Day 111, and conducted raids at 505 locations on Friday leading to the arrest of 127 drug smugglers after registration of 98 FIRs across the state. With this, the number of total drug smugglers arrested has reached 18,372 in 111 days.
Shukla added that raids have resulted in recovery of 4.2 kg heroin, 3 kg opium, 118 kg poppy husk and Rs 11,170 drug money from the possession of arrested drug smugglers.
He said that over 200 police teams, comprising over 1,500 police personnel conducted the raids.

YSRCP slams govt for politicizing tragic accident
Vijayawada: The YSRCP has strongly condemned the TDP coalition's attempt to politicize the tragic accident that resulted in the death of party activist Cheeli Singaiah during YS Jagan Mohan Reddy 's recent visit. Former minister Ambati Rambabu said that it was unfortunate to portray the accident as a big conspiracy, instead of treating the matter with the sensitivity it deserves. "The ruling coalition is attempting to exploit it for political gain," Ambati alleged. Ambati criticized the Naidu-led govt for failing to provide adequate security to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, a Z+ security protectee. "A rope party and road clearance team must lead the convoy, but the government has deliberately compromised on Jagan's security," Ambati alleged. This is not an isolated instance, as similar security failures were observed during YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's tours in Rapthadu and Podili. The coalition govt is using these lapses to orchestrate a character assassination campaign against the former CM, he claimed. The YSRCP demands a transparent and impartial investigation into both the accident and the security lapses that continue to put the life of a Z+ protectee at risk. "We urge the state govt to immediately rectify these lapses and stop using such incidents to settle political scores," Ambati said. Man loses Rs 20k in loan fraud
Udupi: A man alleged that he lost Rs 20,848 after falling prey to a loan fraud. In a complaint, Manjunath said on June 6, he received a call from a person who introduced himself as Satyaprakash Kaushal from Dhani Finance. The caller claimed that he could offer a personal loan. When the complainant said he needed a loan of Rs 1 lakh, the accused asked him to send his Aadhaar card, PAN card, and bank passbook via WhatsApp. After Manjunath shared the documents with the accused's WhatsApp number, the accused informed him that a loan of Rs 1 lakh was approved. He was then asked to deposit some money into the accused's account to cover loan processing charges. The complainant transferred Rs 2,850 through Google Pay to the scanner code sent by the accused. He was then told to pay Rs 5,999 as GST, to which he responded by transferring Rs 6,000. The accused then claimed that Rs 1 was overpaid and asked him to send an additional Rs 4,999. On June 7, the complainant sent the amount. Later, he received a message saying that Rs 1,02,000 was approved as a loan. The accused then demanded a "waiting charge" of Rs 6,999, which Manjunath allegedly paid via Google Pay. After this final payment, the accused switched off his phone, and the loan amount never got credited to the complainant's account. A case has been registered at Byndoor police station under sections 318(4) of the BNS and sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the IT Act. Believing this, the complainant shared an OTP with the caller. Following this, Rs 40,500 was fraudulently transferred from her bank account. A case has been registered at Udupi Town police station under Section 318(2) of the BNS and Section 66(D) of the IT Act.
