Tragic Chatsworth crash claims life of man in fiery vehicle blaze
A man died in a crash on the M1 Higginson Highway on Saturday. Image: ALS Paramedics / Facebook A man believed to be in his forties tragically lost his life in a horrific crash on the M1 Higginson Highway Eastbound, just before the Havenside robots in Chatsworth, on Saturday evening. ALS Paramedics reported that the incident occurred just before 6pm. Multiple ambulances and advanced life support teams responded to the scene. 'Initial reports were that a vehicle had somehow lost control and collided with a tree before the vehicle burst into flames,' ALS Paramedics Garrith Jamieson said. On arrival, paramedics found that the vehicle was already on fire, and the eThekwini Fire Department was actively working to extinguish the blaze. 'The driver, believed to be the only occupant in the vehicle, unfortunately, was unable to get out of the vehicle in time and passed away on the scene,' the paramedics said. Divisional Commander Nkulumo Dube of eThekwini Municipality Fire & Emergency Services confirmed that a fire engine was dispatched just before 6pm on Saturday to attend to the crash, where firefighters found a bakkie engulfed in flames after colliding with trees. Next Stay Close ✕ 'It was reported that the driver was entrapped in the vehicle,' Dube stated, adding that the fire was extinguished using a high-pressure hose reel, but the occupant was declared deceased on the scene by Amawele Ambulance Services. 'Due to the extent of the fire damage, no further details could be established regarding the identity of the deceased or the vehicle particulars,' Dube said. The cause of the crash is currently unknown. However, both the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Metro Police were present and are investigating the circumstances that led to the crash. Bodies of mother and son found after Durban shooting
A case of murder and inquest has been opened at Bellair SAPS following the discovery of two bodies believed to be those of a mother and son in the Hillary area of Durban. According to Highway Mail, Garrith Jamieson from ALS Paramedics says paramedics responded to calls of a shooting incident on Sarnia Road, before Stella Road in the Hillary area, last night. 'On arrival, paramedics found SAPS already in attendance and were shown into a house. Paramedics found two people believed to be a mother in her 60s and a male believed to be her son in his 30s who had sustained gunshot wounds to their heads. 'Paramedics assessed both of them, however, they showed no signs of life and both were declared deceased on the scene,' explains Jamieson. Seven detainees injured in police vehicle crash near KZN
Seven detainees were injured when the police truck that was transporting them from Pietermaritzburg to Kokstad overturned in Richmond on Monday morning. The accident took place on the R56 near the Eston turnoff between Richmond and Ixopo. ALS Paramedics were dispatched to the scene shortly after 10:00 after multiple distress calls were received from the public, spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said. He added that upon arrival, they found the police vehicle, which had rolled and landed on its roof. 'Paramedics from multiple ambulance services treated and stabilised the injured on [the] scene before transporting all seven to a nearby hospital for further medical care. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the police officers involved,' Jamieson added. According to provincial police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the vehicle hit a guardrail before losing control and overturning. 'The truck was escorted by four police vehicles, and the accident scene has been secured, ensuring that [the] detainees remain in custody,' Netshiunda added. The spokesperson will provide further details in due course.

Seven detainees injured after police truck overturns on R56 near Richmond in KZN
ALS Paramedics and other emergency crews respond to the scene where a police truck transporting detainees overturned on the R56 near Richmond. Seven prison detainees were injured on Monday morning when a South African Police Service (SAPS) truck transporting them from Pietermaritzburg to Kokstad overturned on the R56 near the Eston turnoff between Richmond and Ixopo. Emergency responders from ALS Paramedics' Hibiscus Cato Ridge Operation were among the first on the scene following multiple calls for urgent assistance just after 10am. ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said paramedics arrived on the scene to find that a SAPS vehicle transporting detainees had somehow lost control and rolled, coming to rest on its roof. 'A total of seven passengers had sustained various injuries and were stabilized on the scene by ALS Paramedics and multiple other ambulance services before all of the inmates were transported to a nearby hospital.'
