Bodies of mother and son found after Durban shooting
A case of murder and inquest has been opened at Bellair SAPS following the discovery of two bodies believed to be those of a mother and son in the Hillary area of Durban.
According to Highway Mail, Garrith Jamieson from ALS Paramedics says paramedics responded to calls of a shooting incident on Sarnia Road, before Stella Road in the Hillary area, last night.
'On arrival, paramedics found SAPS already in attendance and were shown into a house. Paramedics found two people believed to be a mother in her 60s and a male believed to be her son in his 30s who had sustained gunshot wounds to their heads.
'Paramedics assessed both of them, however, they showed no signs of life and both were declared deceased on the scene,' explains Jamieson.

Two soldiers were stabbed to death during the early hours of Saturday at the Macadamia Military Base near Komatipoort in Mpumalanga, allegedly after a confrontation with a colleague. The SANDF, in conjunction with the SA Police Service (SAPS), has launched a full investigation into the matter. 'The circumstances surrounding the incident remain the subject of ongoing inquiry, and further details will be communicated once officially verified. The SANDF expresses its deepest condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased members. This is a deeply painful moment for the organisation and the military community at large,' Tshabalala said. Wanted Mozambican kidnapper killed by cops in Fourways
In yet another success story for the national anti-kidnapping task team, a wanted Mozambican kidnapper was shot dead this week during a tracing operation in Johannesburg. National police spokesperson Brig Athlende Mathe said the anti-kidnapping task team traced a Mozambican kidnapping kingpin to a block of apartments in Fourways. 'The team was tracing a kidnapped Pakistani businessman from Pretoria West. He is still in captivity and the team is still searching for [him]. A ransom demand has been made to the businessman's family,' Mathe said. The tracing operation began at a residential complex in Midrand where they seized a Mercedes-Benz, a silver Pajero and arrested two kidnappers. 'They proceeded to Fourways where the task team announced their arrival and a shoot-out ensued. One suspect was fatally wounded and upon further investigation, it was discovered that 40-year-old Mauro Mucambe Junior is a wanted kidnapping kingpin in Mozambique where he has been linked to several kidnappings. His warrant of arrest was issued by Maputo police in August 2024.' One unlicensed firearm used by the fugitive was seized, including 10 rounds of ammunition. Four cellphones and four bank cards were also seized. 'The SAPS has full faith and confidence in the work of the anti-kidnapping task team to rescue the kidnapped businessman. Since January 2024, the team has arrested more than 170 criminals involved in kidnappings for ransom. More than R1.2m has been recovered. More than 100 victims were rescued mainly in Gauteng and more than 40 vehicles used in kidnapping crimes were seized by the team. 'The anti-kidnapping task team recently registered a breakthrough in the Olorato Mongale murder case where they led the tracing operation of Philangenkosi Makhanya. Gunshots fired at loose baboon in Northcliff
According Bhaai Cassim, the secretary for the Johannesburg Sub-District Community Police Board stated that the baboon is now at the Northcliff Eco Ridge area which he is likely to overnight. 'The OWL Rescue Centre has confirmed that a trap is being set up nearby, close to a residence that the baboon has been frequenting several times over the last 24 hours.' 'The incident was reported to the South African Police Service (SAPS), who responded to investigate but were unable to find the exact location of the shots.' Dirke Engelbrecht from Community Lead Animal Welfare (CLAW) emphasised the urgency of the situation, labeling the shooting as 'totally unnecessary.' He reassured the community that there is no aggression or threat from the baboon. 'There may be passing over of a property, but there is no indication of a threat or danger,' Engelbrecht explained. He cautioned that such actions are criminal offenses, and anyone found responsible could face prosecution under conservation and animal cruelty laws.
