Barbie Forteza on first solo film 'P77': 'This must be a dream'

Barbie Forteza has been in show business for 15 years, but still has roles she dreams of taking on, including starring in a horror film. Before turning 28 in July, the Kapuso Primetime Princess will see that dream fulfilled with the airing of her upcoming horror film, "P77." On Instagram, Barbie expressed her excitement and pride over "P77," which will be distributed by Warner Bros. Philippines. "[Warner Bros. Philippines officially signed a partnership with GMA Pictures to distribute my first ever solo commercial film in my favorite genre (alternative narrative horror) that will be shown in cinemas just a day before my birthday," she said. "Somebody pinch me," she added. "This must be a dream." The official contract signing happened on GMA Network in Quezon City on Monday, attended by GMA Network Senior Vice President Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes, GMA Senior Vice President for Public Affairs and GMA Pictures Executive Vice President Nessa Valdellon, Warner Bros. Philippines distribution director Rico Gonzales, Barbie, and "P77" director Derick Cabrido. For Barbie, "P77" is a career milestone. At the same time, she said that it's also a challenge that she has been looking for as an actress. "It's very different, and especially for this film, it's a different kind of horror because it attacks your mind," she told GMA News Online. 'More than the jump scare, it's really what's going inside your head that is [scarier],' she added. 'Parang fear lives in your mind so mas 'yun 'yung kakalikutin natin sa pelikula na 'to.' "P77," which stands for Penthouse 77, will also star Euwenn Mikaell, Gina Pareño, and Jackie Lou Blanco. The film is directed by Derick Cabrido, the filmmaker behind the Metro Manila Film Festival 2023 entry "Mallari," and produced by GMA Pictures and Clever Minds Inc. It was written by Enrico Santos, and the story was told by Anj Atienza and Xtian Julao. "P77" is coming to cinemas on July 30. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
