"World is enthused to celebrate the International Yoga Day": Kishan Reddy after participating in 24-hour countdown event

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 20 (ANI): Union Minister G Kishan Reddy has said that the whole world is enthused to celebrate the International Yoga Day on 21 June. He also said that many participated in the 24-hour countdown event ahead of International Yoga Day at Lal Bahadur Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday. 'The whole world is enthused to celebrate the International Yoga Day on 21 June. There is no place in India that will not organise an event tomorrow,' Kishan Reddy told ANI. 'Thousands of people participated in the 24-hour countdown event in Hyderabad today... Actors, High Court judges, Army officers, central paramilitary, and many others participated in the programme... I request all people that there should be no house left where Yoga isn't practised tomorrow,' he added. Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and Former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu practised Yoga at Lal Bahadur Stadium, Hyderabad, during the 24-hour countdown event organised by the Ministry of Steel, Ministry of Coal and Ministry of Mines ahead of the International Yoga Day tomorrow. The country is gearing up to celebrate the 11th International Day of Yoga on June 21. The government is organising a multitude of events nationwide to mark the occasion, with 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health' as this year's theme. Yoga Sangam, the main event, will orchestrate a synchronised mass yoga demonstration based on the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) at over 1 lakh locations across India on June 21, 2025, from 6:30 AM to 7:45 AM. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the national event at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This collective celebration aims to reaffirm our shared commitment to the timeless practice of yoga and its enduring relevance in today's world. An invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition, Yoga has emerged as one of the most trusted means to boost physical and mental well-being. The word 'Yoga' is derived from the Sanskrit root 'yuj', meaning 'to join,' 'to yoke,' or 'to unite.' It symbolises the unity of mind and body, thought and action, restraint and fulfilment, harmony between human and nature, and a holistic approach to health and well-being. Recognising its universal appeal, on December 11, 2014, the United Nations proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131. India proposed the draft resolution establishing the International Day of Yoga, which was endorsed by a record 175 member states. Prime Minister Narendra Modi first introduced the proposal in his address during the opening of the 69th session of the General Assembly on September 27, 2014. The date of June 21 was chosen as it is the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. This day represents a symbolic harmony between nature and human wellness and is important in many cultures. (ANI)

China export curbs hit: India seeks to secure rare-Earth supply chain, push for self-reliance in critical minerals

India seeks to secure rare-Earth supply chain The Centre on Tuesday intensified efforts to secure the supply chain for rare-earth materials critical to manufacturing electric vehicles (EVs), electronics, and defence equipment. In a series of high-level meetings, officials from various ministries came together to review the local availability of these strategic resources. "This inter-ministerial effort will pave the way for India's self-reliance in strategic materials crucial for electric vehicles (EVs), electronics, defence and other sectors," said steel and heavy industries minister HD Kumaraswamy in a statement. The move comes as a response to concerns over China curtailing exports of permanent magnets, which are made from rare earth elements (REEs). These magnets are essential components in EV propulsion systems, speakers, power windows, and generators used in renewable energy infrastructure. The supply squeeze has raised fears of potential disruptions in EV production in India. Coal and mines minister G Kishan Reddy and Kumaraswamy jointly chaired the inter-ministerial meetings, which also involved representatives from the atomic energy and commerce ministries, reported ET. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo Reddy posted on X that discussions focused on strengthening the value chain, from mining and refining to final use. To accelerate domestic capabilities, the government is considering amendments to the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act. These changes aim to support the critical mineral mission and boost production capacity. Additionally, the Centre expects commercially viable domestic production of rare earth permanent magnets in small quantities later this year, marking a key step toward reducing reliance on imports. Rare Earths supply: India steps up mining, refining to safeguard EV future

The Centre Tuesday sought to secure the supply chain for rare-earth materials, used in the manufacturing of electronics and electric cars, holding meetings among various connected ministries and reviewing their local availability. "This inter-ministerial effort will pave the way for India's self-reliance in strategic materials crucial for electric vehicles (EVs), electronics, defence and other sectors," steel and heavy industries minister HD Kumaraswamy said in a statement. The deliberations are part of efforts to mitigate the impact of China curtailing permanent magnet supplies, threatening to stall the production of electric vehicles (EV) in India. These permanent magnets are derived out of rare earth elements (REEs), vital for power windows, speakers, propulsion systems in electric vehicles, and generators in renewable energy infrastructure, among others. Coal and mines minister G Kishan Reddy and Kumaraswamy jointly chaired these meetings that also drew participation of officials linked to Atomic Energy and commerce ministries. In a post on X, Reddy said discussions focused on strengthening the value chain, from mining to refining and then to end-use. To speed up domestic production, the government is planning amendments to the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act for supporting the critical mineral mission. Besides regulatory tweaks, the centre is also expecting commercially viable domestic production of rare earth permanent magnets in small quantities later this year.
