Sunderland close to appointing Roma's Florent Ghisolfi as director of football
Sunderland are close to appointing Florent Ghisolfi as the club's director of football. Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman will remain at newly-promoted Sunderland and will work alongside Ghisolfi, who was Roma's sporting director for 2024-25. Ghisolfi had interest from other clubs including Newcastle United, who are assessing candidates to succeed outgoing sporting director Paul Mitchell, with interest also from Juventus, Fiorentina and Saudi Arabia. Advertisement A former midfielder, Ghisolfi led Roma to a top-five finish in Serie A for the first time in five seasons last term, missing out on Champions League qualification to Juventus by one point. The 40-year-old, who decided to leave Roma this summer, had his first sporting director role at Lens, who won promotion back to Ligue 1 during his time at the club before later qualifying for the Champions League. Ghisolfi worked at Nice with INEOS between 2022 and 2024, where head coach Francesco Farioli had wished to retain his services before Roma saw off interest from Monaco to secure his signature last summer. Sunderland are back in the Premier League for the first time since 2017, having defeated Sheffield United in last month's Championship play-off final. ()

Roma linked again with Hudson-Odoi
Roma's transfer market is about to get into full swing as Gian Piero Gasperini has taken the reigns to the team. However, it remains to be seen who will handle the club's transfer business after the news of the dismissal of sporting director Florent Ghisolfi. Advertisement Despite this and the looming Financial Fair Play restrictions, Roma are reportedly very active ahead of the transfer window. According to English news portal Sunsport, Roma have once again set their sights on Nottingham Forest's Callum Hudson-Odoi. The player had already ended up on the Giallorossi's radar a few months ago. The former Chelsea player would fall into the category of players suitable for Gasperini's playing style and a first offer from Trigoria could soon arrive. Napoli and Manchester United are also interested in the midfielder. His value is around 25 million euros.

Reasons behind Florent Ghisolfi's Roma exit
Serie A side Roma will part ways with sporting director Florent Ghisolfi soon and the decision has come rather abruptly from the Friedkins, who are no strangers to making those. La Gazzetta dello Sport have explored the situation and they speak of the reasons behind the Frenchman's exit from the Stadio Olimpico. Advertisement They believe that tensions were lingering at the club due to the situation of Mile Svilar, whose contract situation was being delayed. While the farewell took place by mutual agreement, the goalkeeper's renewal proved to be the last straw for the Friedkins. The newspaper claim that Ghisolfi had a strained relationship with many agents – including those of Alexis Saelemaekers. The ownership wanted to cash in on the sale of Angelino and the failure to do has fallen on Ghisolfi's shoulders. More than that, there were issues regarding the renewals of many Primavera players. These issues emerged in a clear video call involving the parties and the Friedkins learned that only Claudio Ranieri's intervention was making sure of Svilar's renewal. A solution was reached early in the morning and CFO Lorenzo Vitali was the one to show Ghisolfi the door, with Ricky Massara in pole position to replace the Frenchman. Kaustubh Pandey I GIFN
