Elon Musk Tries To Shut Down Drug Use Rumors With Negative Test Results, But Timeline Raises Eyebrows

Tech billionaire Elon Musk is shutting down allegations of drug use by posting his clean test results. Musk was seemingly prompted to share his result after a publication had claimed that he frequently used ketamine and psychedelics. While Elon Musk released the test results to discredit the drug claims, it has only further fueled more speculation, especially due to the short detection window. Musk fired back at The New York Times following their recent allegations of his "intense" drug use by posting drug test results showing he's clean across the board. On Tuesday, June 17, Musk shared a screenshot via X (formerly Twitter), captioning it with a simple "lol." The test, conducted by Fastest Labs of South Austin, lists "Elon Musk" as the donor and shows negative results for a range of substances, including ketamine, ecstasy, cocaine, and amphetamines. Notably, the test was taken on June 11, nearly two weeks after The Times published a report alleging that the former White House advisor frequently used ketamine and psychedelics while supporting Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign. While Musk shared the results as a rebuttal to The Times, its credibility as a rebuttal has been called into question. Fastest Labs' website notes a key limitation: "urine drug tests can detect drugs that have been ingested within the last 2-10 days." A clinic employee confirmed this to People Magazine, explaining that most substances exit the system quickly, except cannabis, which tends to linger longer. They also emphasized that hair follicle tests offer a much broader detection range, capable of identifying drug use dating back up to 90 days, making them a more reliable option for assessing long-term patterns of use. Reactions to Musk's drug test results have been mixed, with many expressing skepticism about the validity. One more person commented, "The richest man in the world does not have the resources to cheat a piss test? Give me a break." Another said, "Ketamine stays in your blood like 48h if you're a daily user, Mfer, you're not the first to game a drug test." A third person noted, "Now do the same test but with your hair.... a urine test only says you didn't have drugs the last couple of days." The New York Times also hit back at his post, writing, "Elon Musk is continuing to lash out because he doesn't like our reporting. Nothing that he's said or presented since our article about his drug use during the presidential campaign was published contradicts what we uncovered. We stand by our journalism." The test came in response to a May 30 New York Times article alleging Musk had been using ketamine frequently throughout 2024, to the point it was damaging his bladder. The claims surfaced as Musk ramped up financial and public support for Donald Trump's reelection campaign, donating nearly $275 million. The report also stated that Musk carried a pill box containing Adderall and used other psychedelics. During a joint press conference with Trump, Musk was asked about the Times' report. He dismissed the publication's credibility and told the reporter to "move on." Later, he reiterated via social media that he does not use drugs. Meanwhile, President Trump, speaking to reporters near Air Force One, said he wasn't aware of any drug use by Musk. "I'm not troubled by anything with Elon," he stated at the time. "I think he's fantastic." Meanwhile, Musk's relationship with President Trump has unraveled, coinciding with the end of his role as a "special government employee" on May 30, the same day The New York Times published its story on Musk's alleged drug use. In the days that followed, the tech billionaire launched into a social media offensive that severely strained his ties with the president. During the outburst, which spanned a few days, Musk harshly criticized Trump's proposed "One Big, Beautiful Bill," calling it a "disgusting abomination." He went further, claiming credit for Trump's 2024 election win and even accusing the president of concealing Jeffrey Epstein-related files to protect himself—an accusation Musk later deleted. On June 5, when asked to respond to Musk's online attacks, Trump expressed dismay. "Elon and I had a great relationship," he said, pointedly using the past tense. "I don't know if we will anymore." By June 11, Musk appeared to reconsider his remarks. In a post published on X around 3 a.m. ET, he admitted feeling "regret" and noted that some of his criticisms had "gone too far."

Elon Musk posts clean drug tests, but lab claims he flushed it out of his system — netizens call it fake

On June 17, 2025, Elon Musk posted a screenshot of his clean drug test results on X. He captioned it just 'lol,' clearly mocking the drug use accusations. The test showed negative results for ketamine, cocaine, ecstasy, amphetamines, and more. The test was done by Fastest Labs of South Austin. The sample was collected on June 11, which is 12 days after the New York Times published a big report accusing him of using drugs, as compiled by People and New York Times. As per the New York Times report, Musk was a near-daily ketamine user during Trump's 2024 campaign. They also claimed he used ecstasy and hallucinogenic mushrooms. Musk allegedly carried a pillbox with Adderall but also a stimulant. The report also said his ketamine use hurt his bladder, citing a 2022 study from NIH. During that time, Musk had donated nearly $275 million to Trump's campaign. What's wrong with the test? The lab itself says urine tests only detect drugs taken in the past 2–10 days. Musk took the test 12 days after the report, so he had time to flush drugs from his system if he used them earlier, according to the Fastest Labs website and People's report. A lab employee told People that urine tests are not reliable for older drug use, except cannabis. Hair follicle tests can detect drug use from the past 90 days, but Musk didn't take that kind. Live Events Grok defends Musk X's AI bot Grok responded to a user saying Musk's report shows he's 'clean as a whistle.' Grok said the post might be a joke, a way to shut down rumors, or a dig at critics. It mentioned the timing with SpaceX news and said Musk might just be laughing off the drama. Trump & Musk Musk was working as a 'special government employee' in Trump's White House. His contract ended on May 30, the same day NYT's report about his drug use came out. Between May 30 and June 11, Musk went on a wild social media rant against Trump. He called Trump's policy bill a 'disgusting abomination,' and accused Trump of hiding Epstein files, as per the report by People. On June 11, Musk tweeted he regrets some posts about Trump. He admitted some comments 'went too far.' But insiders say Musk and Trump's relationship is now totally broken. 'It sort of evolved from love to transactional to now pure avoidance', he added, 'Trump doesn't forget', according to the Political Source via People. FAQs Q1. Did Elon Musk really use drugs like ketamine and ecstasy? The New York Times said he did, but Musk denied it by sharing a clean drug test taken 12 days later. Q2. Why do people think Elon Musk's drug test might be fake or useless? Because urine tests only detect drugs taken in the past 2–10 days, and Musk's test was done 12 days after the report.

Elon Musk Posts His Drug Test Results for Ketamine and Cocaine

Elon Musk posted what appeared to be his drug test results on X early Tuesday. And even though multiple credible news organizations have said Musk is a regular user of illicit drugs, it looks like the billionaire oligarch tested negative for the drugs he's reportedly been using, including cocaine, ecstasy, and ketamine. Musk tweeted simply 'lol' with an image of the report, which appears to have been conducted by a company called Fastest Labs of South Austin, in Austin, Texas. The image posted by Musk states it was a urine test collected on June 11 and received by the lab on June 13. The report is dated June 16. The report shows Musk tested negative for benzodiazepines, amphetamine, and opiates, among the other drugs he's reportedly used in the past. Musk has been most closely associated with ketamine, a drug that reportedly impacted his bladder, according to an article from the New York Times in late May. The billionaire has said he was prescribed ketamine for depression years ago, but more recently said he hasn't touched it in a few years. Musk accused the New York Times of 'lying their ass off' about his history of drug use. But the newspaper wasn't the first to report on it. The Wall Street Journal was the first major newspaper to write about Musk's alleged history with LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, mushrooms, and ketamine back in January 2024. The article cited sources within his companies who were concerned that Musk's drug use may be hurting his businesses. Musk posted the drug results himself on Tuesday, which means we have to take his word that it's an accurate representation of reality. That will obviously be difficult for some people, given Musk's history of being dishonest about a litany of topics. For example, when Musk insisted there was widespread fraud happening at the Social Security Administration and 150-year-olds were collecting Social Security checks, it was a claim that made it into President Donald Trump's first speech to Congress during his second term. As it turns out, Musk's claim wasn't true, and his top DOGE spokesperson, Katie Miller, insisted on perpetuating the lie, according to new reporting from the New York Times. NASA, which oversees Musk's lucrative SpaceX contracts, insisted it saw 'no evidence' back in January 2024 that he had used drugs. But the New York Times also reported last month that Musk had been given advance warning about drug tests mandated by the government for the billionaire to keep his security clearance. It seems unlikely that Musk's tweet with drug test results will put the debate to rest. Especially since the Tesla CEO spent the past year under a harsh spotlight after he endorsed Trump, handing out over $250 million to get him and other Republicans elected. Musk appeared on quite a few stages to promote Trump, giving the public more than a few opportunities to see him act strangely. There are just way too many odd events to count, from Musk's bizarre jumping at a Trump rally in the summer of 2024 to Musk's Nazi-style salutes on the day of Trump's inauguration to his erratic chainsaw stunt at CPAC in February. Then there was Musk's farewell in the Oval Office, where he kept spinning his head around and gazing into the distance as Trump was talking. It wasn't the first time he'd done that in recent months. But who knows? The defense from Musk fans is often that he's on the autism spectrum and comes across awkwardly. That could very well be true. But it seems like most people have someone with autism in their lives who doesn't act as erratically and unhinged as Musk.

Elon Musk shares drug test results weeks after bombshell ketamine report, verbal spat with Trump

Amid circulating rumors of drug addiction, recent testing results have revealed that Elon Musk tested negative for fentanyl, ketamine, and a host of additional substances. Just weeks after a shocking investigation revealed that the billionaire was addicted to stimulants, psychedelics, and ketamine during his stay in the White House, Musk posted a picture of the results on X this morning with the word, 'lol.' The picture seems to indicate that on June 11, a few days after his intense verbal altercation with President Donald Trump, in which he was referred to as a 'big-time drug addict,' Elon tested negative for 22 substances, including benzodiazepines, amphetamines, ecstasy, cocaine, ketamine, opioids, cannabis, and fentanyl. Also Read: Minnesota shooter Vance Boelter's alarming notes reveal his disturbing plans; Did they include Jeff Bezos' ex-wife? Musk's urine test was conducted by Fastest Labs of South Austin, Texas. In the past, Musk stated that he had been prescribed the potent anesthetic ketamine for depression. The findings follow a shocking New York Times article that said Musk was using so much ketamine that it was starting to impair his bladder, possibly causing discomfort and control problems. According to sources, Musk traveled with a daily pill box containing roughly 20 different drugs, including Adderall, and used psychedelic mushrooms and ecstasy. Despite the negative drug test findings, urine drug tests have a one- to seven-day detection window. Substance misuse can be detected up to six months in advance using other methods, such as hair follicle screenings. This implies that Musk might have a history of drug misuse and that he may have just stopped using narcotics for a few days. Earlier, the Tesla CEO published a post from an X user that said, "If Elon is on any drugs, I want what he's having." 'I tried *prescription* ketamine a few years ago and said so on X, so this is not even news. It helps for getting out of dark mental holes, but haven't taken it since then,' Musk wrote in his defense. Additionally, he charged that the NYT had fabricated their report.

Elon Musk posts drug test results after alleged addiction ruined his gig at Trump's White House

Elon Musk has reportedly tested negative for fentanyl, ketamine and a cocktail of other drugs amid rumors of his crippling habit severing his ties to the White House. Musk shared a photo of results on X early this morning with the caption 'lol,' most likely referencing accusations surrounding his drug use. The image shows he tested negative for 22 substances, including benzodiazepines, amphetamines, ecstasy, cocaine, ketamine, opioids, cannabis and fentanyl. He also previously claimed to have been prescribed the powerful anesthetic ketamine for depression. According to the image, the urine test was performed June 11 at Fastest Labs of South Austin in Texas. The results come weeks after a bombshell New York Times report claiming Musk was taking so much ketamine that is had begun affecting his bladder, which could include pain and control issues. He also took ecstasy, psychedelic mushrooms and travelled with a daily pill box that contained about 20 different drugs, including Adderall, sources allege. While the results are negative, urine drug tests can only detect substances for anywhere from one to seven days. Other measures like hair follicle tests can detect substance abuse dating back six months. This means it's possible Musk only stopped taking drugs for a few days, and it's still possible he has a history of drug abuse. Prior to posting the results, the Tesla CEO had shared a post from an X user that read: 'If Elon is on any drugs, I want what he's having.'
