Ukraine released a video of a cheap drone capturing a soldier and escorting him on its own
Ukraine's military released footage on Thursday of a rare instance where a first-person-view drone captured a man identified as a Russian soldier and brought him alone to Ukrainian lines. The incident was recorded on Tuesday, said the Magyar Birds, a famed drone unit that filmed the clips. The footage shows a man clad in military attire raising his hands in surrender to a small quadcopter drone. It later cuts to an observer Mavic drone's view of the man stumbling through a forest as he follows the FPV quadcopter through several rows of concertina wire. He eventually meets a second man, who can be seen taking over the escorting of the prisoner. "The pilot did not eliminate the invader, but escorted him to our positions and handed him over to the infantry of the adjacent unit," Ukraine's ground forces wrote on its official Facebook page in the Thursday post. The Magyar Birds said on its social media channels on Wednesday that the exchange happened in the Donbas region. It added that the pilot in the clips, a crew commander with the call sign "Payne," used an "F10" drone. The F10 likely refers to a reusable, lightweight FPV drone created in late 2023 by Robert Magyar, the businessman who founded the Magyar Birds. The unit said it was the first time its pilots had captured a soldier with an FPV drone. Similar cases have been reported before, but few known instances have involved a soldier being taken captive almost purely by a quadcopter and then escorted until he reaches enemy lines. In September, for example, an FPV drone pilot from Ukraine's 54th Mechanized Brigade was recorded dropping a soldier a note and drinking water, leading the latter to surrender and follow the drone to a trench. Ukrainian soldiers later arrived and apprehended the man. And in February, the 25th Separate Airborne Brigade released a video of what it said was an FPV drone using a loudspeaker to persuade nine Russian soldiers to surrender.

Pahang plans high-tech zone to attract AI and tech investments
KUANTAN: The Pahang government will establish a high-tech zone in the state, dedicated to attracting companies involved in artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and big data. State Investment, Industrial development, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee chairman, Datuk Mohamad Nizar Mohamad Najib, said the initiative aims to draw investments from technology firms to the east coast region. 'The Pahang High-Tech Zone will be developed in the Kuantan area. Should there be any changes to the location, we will make an official announcement. We also aim to attract talent in the AI sector to be part of the ecosystem and support the growth of startup companies we are nurturing in Pahang,' he added. He said this to reporters after launching the AI for Productivity Transformation and officiating the closing ceremony of the Speed GCPV (Grid-Connected Photovoltaic) programme at the Pahang Skills Development Centre here today. Meanwhile, Mohamad Nizar expressed hope that Pahang Skills and the Pahang Foundation would collaborate to attract companies and fresh talent in the field of AI to the state. 'We in Pahang must be well-prepared to face both the opportunities and challenges that AI will bring. The state government will also explore potential incentives to encourage more AI companies to establish operations here, rather than limiting their presence to the Klang Valley or other states. He added that the state government is also exploring the development of floating solar farms, or floating photovoltaics (FPV), as part of its commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2030. He said the proposed solar farm would be built on a suitable lake or dam site, with the project expected to take two years to complete. 'We need to produce more skilled and knowledgeable technicians in the solar energy sector, both in Pahang and across Malaysia. So far, 288 participants have been trained in this field through the Speed GCPV programme,' he added.

Fifth Fast Patrol Vessel 'Achal' built by Goa Shipyard launched for ICG
Panaji (Goa) [India], June 16 (ANI): 'Achal', the fifth Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) in a series of eight being constructed by Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), was ceremoniously launched on Monday in Goa by Kavita Harbola in the presence of Coast Guard Commander (Western Seaboard), Additional Director General Anil Kumar Harbola, according to a release by Ministry of Defence. Designed and constructed under stringent dual-class certification from the American Bureau of Shipping and Indian Register of Shipping, the FPV features over 60 per cent indigenous content. The vessel measures 52 meters in length and 8 meters in breadth, with a displacement of 320 tons. Powered by a CPP-based propulsion system, the vessel can reach a top speed of 27 knots, according to the release. With its primary roles of protection, monitoring, control, and surveillance, 'Achal' is equipped to safeguard offshore assets and island territories. Its launch marks another milestone in the long-standing partnership between the Indian Coast Guard and GSL, further reinforcing the collective march towards Aatmanirbharta in defence manufacturing. Built at a total cost of Rs 473 crore, the project has also provided a significant boost to local industry by generating substantial employment and supporting MSMEs engaged in production activities at various factories and within GSL, the release added. The ceremony was attended by Chairman Managing Director, GSL, Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay, along with senior officials from the Indian Navy, ICG, shipyard and others. GSL had also launched two vessels of the same series in January of this year for the Indian Coast Guard. According to a release, the two vessels, Amulya and Akshay, were launched ceremoniously by Vandana Agrawal in the presence of Sanjeev Kumar, IAS, Secretary (Defence Production) amidst the resonant chants of the 'Atharva Veda'. The distinguished gathering included IG HK Sharma, TM, DDG (M&M), as well as key stakeholders from the defence and maritime communities. Speaking at the launch, Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay, CMD, GSL, highlighted the Shipyard's impressive growth trajectory, which has seen a remarkable 100 per cent increase in Gross Revenue, crossing the Rs 2,000 Crore threshold. 'GSL has consistently outperformed its past achievements, embracing cutting-edge technologies and transformative policies to become one of India's foremost shipbuilders with indigenous capabilities,' CMD Upadhyay stated. He attributed GSL's success to its steadfast commitment to innovation, modernization, and the dynamic partnership with the Indian Coast Guard, which has continually strengthened operational readiness for national security. Coast Guard gets new Rs 473-crore, 52-metre-long Fast Patrol Vessel
The Indian Coast Guard's (ICG) fifth Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV), in a series of eight under construction, was launched in Goa on Monday, a Defence Ministry official said. Built at a cost of Rs 473 crore, the vessel named 'Achal' measures 52 metres in length and 8 metres in breadth, with a displacement of 320 tonnes. Powered by a controllable pitch propeller (CPP)-based propulsion system, the vessel can reach a top speed of 27 knots, said the official. The vessel was ceremoniously launched by Kavita Harbola in the presence of Coast Guard Commander (Western Seaboard), Additional Director General Anil Kumar Harbola. Designed and constructed under dual-class certification from the American Bureau of Shipping and Indian Register of Shipping, the FPV features over 60 per cent indigenous content, said an official statement. With its primary roles of protection, monitoring, control, and surveillance, 'Achal' is equipped to safeguard offshore assets and island territories, it said. 'The FPV's launch marks another milestone in the long-standing partnership between the Indian Coast Guard and Goa Shipyard Ltd, further reinforcing the collective march towards Aatmanirbharta in defence manufacturing,' the statement said. The project has also provided a significant boost to local industry by generating substantial employment and supporting MSMEs engaged in production activities at various factories and within GSL, it said. Earlier this month, ICG Director General (DG) Paramesh Sivamani inaugurated a new dedicated jetty at Vizhinjam Harbour, Kerala, to enhance mission readiness for coastal surveillance. The new facility is expected to support faster deployment and turnaround of ICG vessels, adding to the mission readiness for coastal search and rescue, anti-smuggling, and fisheries protection. Strategically located just 10 nautical miles from key international shipping lanes and adjacent to the Vizhinjam International Transhipment Deepwater Port, the jetty is expected to play a critical role in securing India's southwestern coastline. DG Paramesh Sivamani called the facility a major step forward in strengthening the coastal security architecture and ensuring faster response capabilities in the region.
