Give credit where it is due!
SEDIBENG.- They say give credit where it is due! This is exactly what Zakes' Sports Corner is going to do. For a change, there were positive developments taking place in Vaal football over the long weekend. For example, FAR Post and Lucky Star Pilchards hosted a massive coaching workshop and soccer clinic for local boys and girls. This was also in partnership with Orlando Pirates superstar Relebohile Mofokeng. It was an exciting football programme with school kids getting free soccer lessons from the coaches and soccer legends. This is what Zakes' Sports Corner wants to see happen in this region. This region, especially coaches and young players, deserves much better. Give credit where it is due, and this is exactly what Zakes' Sports Corner is going to do: give credit to those who organise unique programmes. It has been a while since something like this happened in this region. The only thing that is taking place in the area is this so-called Kasi football. Like Zakes' Sports Corner said in previous columns, Vaal football is all about Kasi football. Zakes' Sports Corner wants to thank FAR Post and Lucky Star Pilchards for their initiative. Adding to the joy, Mofokeng became the latest player to launch his own foundation. This foundation was launched over the weekend with big names such as Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo and others attending the Gala Dinner. This is what Zakes' Sports Corner means when I say positive developments were happening in the Vaal over the long weekend. Somebody, give credit where it is due! Latest update: Bafana winger to Orlando Pirates
Orlando Pirates are set to have a new right-footed and speedy winger in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season. A deal to sign Tshepang Moremi from AmaZulu is as good as done, thanks to the Sharpville-born player's three goals and seven assists in 28 matches during the 2024/25 season. According to FARPost, Orlando Pirates are moving earnestly and purposefully towards getting the deal done. Ex-Orlando Pirates star says Amakhosi have signed great players Tshepang Moremi making his official debut for Bafana Bafana against Tanzania at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on 6 June 2025. Image: 'AmaZulu and Orlando Pirates are finding each other with their discussions regarding Tshepang Moremi,' a source told the outlet. Kaizer Chiefs warned on Percy Tau 'I don't see anything that can stop the deal from happening because Orlando Pirates are very serious about signing Moremi. 'They are seeing him as a player who can come in for the next season and add value as they try to compete locally and on the African continent,' he concluded. Moremi, who hails from the same town as Relebohile Mofokeng, is the only AmaZulu footballer who played in each and every single Betway Premiership match for Usuthu last season. Kaizer Chiefs midfielder fights drug addiction
Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Thabo Cele is back in his home country after playing in Portugal, Poland and Russia in the past 10 years. Born in Kwa Mashu, Durban, 28 years ago, Cele moved to Amakhosi in January to earn his first experience of professional football in Mzansi's Betway Premiership. The Kaizer Chiefs midfielder says that during December, he discovered his peers had become victims of drug abuse. Cele has since established a programme he calls 'My Brother's Keeper' to rescue addicts. 'Being away, I couldn't do much. Last December, while I was home, I realised I didn't like what was happening in my community,' Cele told FARPost . 'More and more boys were falling into drugs, and I'd look at some of them and say 'you played football and now you're doing drugs…' New Kaizer Chiefs player signs until 2028 'We started engaging with the gents and recorded some of the sessions. We didn't post. With time, ideas came on how we could send the message across to try and help the gents. I thought, let's sit and speak to each other. The project is about trying to help the community. The Kaizer Chiefs midfielder added: 'These are gents I grew up with, so it's natural conversations that we have. I appreciate their energy and how they opened up.' 'I am making it my mission to find someone who can come and help us. I have my own idea – maybe someone who has a farm, takes them to work, and they are placed in a rehabilitation facility. There are many things we can do. Those chats are important as a starting point,' Cele added. Teko sends honest transfer message to Orlando Pirates boss
Teko Modise knows the world of being an Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana superstar like Relebohile Mofokeng. The Soweto-born legend has sent what sounds like a plea to Orlando Pirates regarding the future of the 20-year-old Mofokeng. Randfontein-born star had a decent season with 12 goals and 15 assists in 49 games. According to Modise, Mofokeng is ripe to take the ideal next step in his career. It is a move to Europe, where football is at its highest level. Orlando Pirates news: Saleng and Sibisi 'When it comes to Rele, it's very difficult for Orlando Pirates to sell, especially when it comes to top players,' Modise told FARPost on the talented Sea Robber. 'The last time they had a player who was exciting like that was [Thembinkosi] Lorch. Yes, sometimes, as South African fans, we want to see the youngsters go further abroad and do great things,' the Orlando Pirates legend added. 'I just wish that happens for him sooner rather than later so that he becomes a better player. The better Rele, the better the national team will be, cause at some point, he's going to be the superstar of the national team. 'I strongly believe that Orlando Pirates know what they have. I just hope that it happens for the boy, I so wish that it happens for the boy. Relebohile Mofokeng in action for Orlando Pirates against Cape Town City FC at the DHL Stadium. Image: @safootclassics/X 'It will not only improve his life but also his family. He must play the UEFA Champions League, cause I think if he gets to be in that type of position, I'll be more proud because he would have gotten the opportunities that I never had. 'I'm rallying that he goes [overseas] because it would be great to see the youngster that we've all seen from the DDC to the PSL to actually go overseas. That would be great,' Modise added on the young Buccaneer. Sipho Mbule's agent confirms offer to Kaizer Chiefs
Sipho Mbule's name is once again making headlines, this time as his agent, Mike Makaab, confirms that the 27-year-old midfielder has officially been offered to Kaizer Chiefs. Speaking on X (formerly Twitter), Makaab reversed an earlier stance taken in a FARPost article, where he had dismissed reports linking Mbule with a surprise move to Naturena ahead of the 2025/2026 Betway Premiership season. In a sharp clarification, Makaab stated: 'Let me set the record straight. Sipho Mbule has been offered to Kaizer Chiefs. It is up to the club(Kaizer Chiefs) to make the decision and we need to respect that decision.' Mbule's time at Mamelodi Sundowns has come to a premature end. Although his contract technically runs until 30 June 2025, the club decided not to activate a two-year extension clause. According to reports, ongoing concerns about his conduct away from the pitch influenced that decision. Signed in 2022 from SuperSport United, Mbule was once seen as a marquee acquisition for the Brazilians. However, his performances never quite lived up to the hype during his underwhelming stint at Chloorkop. In a bid to rediscover his form, Mbule joined Sekhukhune United on a season-long loan. Under coach Lehlohonolo Seema, he showed early promise, scoring twice and assisting three times in 17 appearances across all competitions. But his return to form was short-lived. Reports emerged that Mbule arrived at training under the influence of alcohol, reigniting the same concerns that plagued his time at Sundowns. Mbule's exit has sparked widespread discussion on social media and among Kaizer Chiefs supporters. Some fans see him as a creative spark the club desperately needs, while others warn that his off-field track record makes him too much of a gamble. Now, with his agent confirming that the ball is in Chiefs' court, the club faces a pivotal decision. Will Kaizer Chiefs take a chance on Sipho Mbule?
