SEDIBENG.- They say give credit where it is due!
This is exactly what Zakes' Sports Corner is going to do.
For a change, there were positive developments taking place in Vaal football over the long weekend. For example, FAR Post and Lucky Star Pilchards hosted a massive coaching workshop and soccer clinic for local boys and girls. This was also in partnership with Orlando Pirates superstar Relebohile Mofokeng.
It was an exciting football programme with school kids getting free soccer lessons from the coaches and soccer legends. This is what Zakes' Sports Corner wants to see happen in this region. This region, especially coaches and young players, deserves much better. Give credit where it is due, and this is exactly what Zakes' Sports Corner is going to do: give credit to those who organise unique programmes. It has been a while since something like this happened in this region.
The only thing that is taking place in the area is this so-called Kasi football.
Like Zakes' Sports Corner said in previous columns, Vaal football is all about Kasi football. Zakes' Sports Corner wants to thank FAR Post and Lucky Star Pilchards for their initiative.
Adding to the joy, Mofokeng became the latest player to launch his own foundation.
This foundation was launched over the weekend with big names such as Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo and others attending the Gala Dinner. This is what Zakes' Sports Corner means when I say positive developments were happening in the Vaal over the long weekend. Somebody, give credit where it is due!

'Slay queens, pressure, no guidance' – Why this former PSL star thinks Rele must go abroad this transfer window

Time for Rele to spread his wings? Relebohile Mofokeng has been urged to move abroad in order to continue growing as a footballer. Photo: Alche Greeff/BackpagePix Mhlongo believes that Mofokeng has outgrown the South African game and needs to move in order to receive the necessary guidance to take him to the next level. The 20-year-old Mofokeng has had an amazing two seasons for Pirates and has become one of the best players in the country. After another good showing in the Betway Premiership, speculation about his future has reached fever pitch. Former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Benson Mhlongo believes Relebohile Mofokeng needs to move abroad in order to continue his growth as a footballer. "There are a lot of things we don't have at our disposal as teams. If he goes overseas, he's going to grow. Not to say he won't grow at Pirates, but at home there are too many negative elements that the boy will face and has to manoeuvre around,' Mhlongo said, as per KickOff. "We have a problem of bad company, we have a problem of 'slay queens,' and we have a problem of guidance. "We don't take seriously the mental aspect of the game that these boys go through, the pressure they go through. If Pirates can have a psychologist, he can stay around. "But if they don't have it, let's save the boy from the social illness we're facing as a country and give the young boy a chance to grow and come back and represent the country for us to have a chance in the World Cup. "Sometimes it's all about the bigger picture h – develop as much as we can for the national team. He has done his part; let him go and open up space for other youngsters," Mhlongo added. IOL Sport

Dutch giants monitoring Bafana Bafana forward!

Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven are reportedly monitoring Bafana Bafana striker Iqraam Rayners, who played a pivotal role in the Pretoria outfits league winning season. 'Yes, there has been interest in him from Holland. It's a top club. It's believed that PSV Eindhoven are the club interested in him but at the moment things are with the office and there is nothing much we can say,' a source revealed. 'But yes, they are believed to have their scouts at the Club World Cup in the United States. So most of the information will be known once the team comes back from there. But apparently, the interest is high and strong.' Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams embracing Relebohile Mofokeng after his debut. Image: Backpagepix Meanwhile, Relebohile Mofokeng is another Bafana Bafana star being linked with a move to Europe, speculation further fuelled by his father, who believes now is the time for his son to flock South Africa. 'My biggest wish is to see Rele overseas in 2025/2026. I'm praying every day. I don't want to see him in the Betway Premiership again this season. I know God will answer my prayers,' Sechaba said. [Whether it's in] Spain, England, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Switzerland — Rele can play. I believe that with all my heart. Take him to Barcelona? He can play. PSG? He can play. Any country. I'll be happy — but not Saudi Arabia.' 'Not yet. He's still young. He needs to compete in UEFA competitions. If he goes to Saudi now, he won't experience that. Yes, he'd be rich — but happiness is more important. You can have all the money in the world, but if you're not happy, it's worthless.'
