Karnataka ex-servicemen raise alarm over fake military liquor; call for excise dept action, urge protection for legitimate users
The District Ex-Servicemen Association seeks action against fake military liquor. They want to ensure genuine users face no supply issues MADIKERI: The District Ex-Servicemen Association has called for action against fake military-branded liquor while ensuring legitimate users face no disruption in supply. The onus is on the Excise Department to prevent any fraudulent activities. Retired Major General B.A. Cariappa, President of the association, and retired Major Odiyanda S. Chingappa, Secretary, highlighted that the district has over 8,000 ex-servicemen and their dependents. They clarified that the consumption of military liquor at gatherings involving service personnel and their dependents remains acceptable. However, they emphasised the need for departmental intervention against fake military-branded liquor distribution. They affirmed that ex-servicemen sharing their allocated liquor with family and relatives is permissible. The association maintains that ex-servicemen should not engage in selling liquor from their facilities, supporting enforcement actions in such instances. They confirmed their intention to communicate these guidelines to their members. A recent association meeting at their Madikeri office, led by President Cariappa, addressed several issues, including the delay in conducting soldiers' Adalat. The association requested an immediate meeting under the district minister's leadership. The meeting also discussed the requirement for a community hall and land allocation for association activities. The association, on the occasion, encouraged ex-servicemen and dependents to join and utilise Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme facilities.

SSC CGL 2025 Notification: The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) will release the official notification for the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination 2025 today. According to the SSC Exam Calendar 2025, the registration for SSC CGL will begin on June 9, after the release of this year's notification. Once the notification is released, candidates will be able to check for vacancies and be able to apply on the commission's official website at As per the earlier released exam calendar for this year, candidates will be able to apply until July 4, and the computer-based (CBT) examination for SSC CGL 2025 is tentatively scheduled to take place between August 13 and August 30, 2025. The SSC CGL application process is divided into two parts – registration and filling of the application form. After registering on the One-Time Registration (OTR) platform of the SSC website, with basic details, candidates will be able to log in and complete the rest of the form, upload documents, and pay the application fee as stipulated. However, female candidates and those belonging to SC, ST, and Ex-Servicemen (ESM) categories are exempt from paying the fee, as per previous year's trends. Step 6: Upload scanned copies of your photograph, signature, and other documents, if required. Step 7: Review the completed application and submit the form. To apply for SSC CGL 2025, candidates must hold a bachelor's degree from a recognised university. The age limit varies between 18 and 32 years, depending on the specific post. The SSC CGL exam is conducted annually to recruit for Group B and C posts in various government departments. These include positions such as Income Tax Officer, Assistant Section Officer, Junior Statistical Officer, Assistant Audit Officer, and Accountant, among others. The SSC is yet to announce the vacancy details for this year's SSC CGL exam. Once the notification is released, candidates will be able to check the department-wise list of vacancies and apply accordingly. Candidates must note that the number of vacancies released under the SSC CGL notification varies each year. In SSC CGL last year, the commission advertised 18,174 posts, including 7,567 for the unreserved category, 2,762 for SC, 1,606 for ST, 4,521 for OBC, and 1,718 for EWS candidates. In comparison, 8,415 vacancies were notified in 2023, while 37,409 were announced in 2022, showing considerable fluctuation in yearly intake.

NCC joint state delegates conference focuses on expansion and national development
Bhopal: The Joint State Delegates and Additional/Deputy Director Generals Conference of National Cadet Corps (NCC) was organised at Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Centre on Tuesday. The Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, inaugurated the conference and was received by Lt. Gen Gurbirpal Singh, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, DGNCC, who presented the welcome address. The conference saw participation from the Education Minister, Youth & Sports Minister, senior Ministry of Defence officials, state department representatives handling NCC matters, State NCC Chiefs, and senior DGNCC Headquarters officers. The primary focus was on expanding NCC to accommodate 3 lakh cadets, with numerous states already confirming their support. States also pledged swift approval for training infrastructure projects essential for this expansion. The DGNCC presented NCC's accomplishments and growth, along with expansion strategies. He specifically addressed the need for establishing comprehensive training and camping facilities across all states to boost cadet performance and enthusiasm. The Minister of State for Defence Seth emphasised NCC's significance in national development during his speech, noting its success in cultivating disciplined, responsible youth with leadership abilities. The expansion initiative also creates employment prospects for Ex-Servicemen (ESM) as NCC Instructors, a process already underway. The Minister commended NCC's involvement in national initiatives like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and its dedication to social welfare alongside regular training. He also recognised the NCC Mount Everest Expedition Team's achievement in summiting Mount Everest on May 18, 2025, demonstrating the courage and determination that NCC instils in youth. He called upon state govts to fulfil their commitments regarding manpower, funding, and infrastructure support for the expansion. Staff Selection Commission has started the registration process for SSC Selection Posts Phase XIII. Candidates who want to apply for various posts can find the direct link through the official website of SSC at The registration process commenced on June 2, 2025. The last date to apply is June 23, 2025. The last date for making online fee payment is June 24, 2025. The correction window will open on June 28 and will close on June 30, 2025. The computer-based examination will be held from July 24 to August 4, 2025. Candidates who qualify in Computer-Based Examinations will have to upload all relevant documents on the Portal for scrutiny. If they fail to do so, their candidature will be summarily rejected. The selection process will comprise a written exam. There will be three separate Computer-Based Examinations (CBE) of Objective-Type Multiple-Choice Questions for the posts with a minimum Educational Qualification of Matriculation, Higher Secondary (10+2), and Graduation & above levels. There will be negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer. The application fee is ₹100/-. The women candidates and the candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) and the Ex-Servicemen (ESM) eligible for reservation are exempted from payment of fee. Fee can be paid online only through BHIM UPI, Net Banking or by using Visa, Master, Maestro Card, or by RuPay Credit or Debit Card. The Commission will levy a uniform charge of ₹ 200/- for making corrections and re-submitting the modified/corrected application for the first time, and thereafter, ₹500/- for making the correction and re-submitting the modified/ corrected application for the second time. The prescribed correction charges will be applicable to all candidates irrespective of their Gender/Categories. The correction charges can be paid by online mode only through BHIM UPI, Net Banking or by using Visa, Master, Maestro Card, or by RuPay Credit or Debit Card.
