Not a war, but a warning: JD Vance frames Iran strike as strategic reset
While Trump suggests regime change in Iran, US Vice President JD Vance took a milder approach and insisted that the US is 'not at war with Iran' but with Tehran's nuclear weapons program. read more A day after the US struck Iran's nuclear facilities , American Vice President JD Vance said that his country is not at war with Iran but with Tehran's nuclear weapons program. In an interview with NBC News, Vance made it clear that the US does not want a wider conflict in West Asia. However, he declined to confirm with 100 per cent confidence that Iran's nuclear sites had been destroyed in the American strikes. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD In the late hours of Saturday, the US, for the first time, directly attacked Iran, prompting concerns over whether attacks could drag the US into a wider war. Hours later, Iran launched strikes against Israel, causing severe damage in Tel Aviv. 'We're not at war with Iran,' Vance told NBC on Sunday evening. 'We're at war with Iran's nuclear program.' After declining to confirm whether he is 100 per cent certain that Iran's nuclear sites were destroyed, Vance said that the United States has 'substantially delayed' Iran's ability to develop a nuclear weapon. 'I'm not going to get into sensitive intelligence about what we've seen on the ground there in Iran, but we've seen a lot, and I feel very confident that we've substantially delayed their development of a nuclear weapon, and that was the goal of this attack," Vance said. Trump thinks otherwise While both US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth and Vance made it clear that the operation was strictly targeted at Iran's nuclear sites, US President Donald Trump hinted at a different objective. On Sunday, the POTUS raised the prospect of regime change in Iran and defended his claim that its nuclear enrichment sites had been 'totally obliterated' by US strikes over the weekend. In his post on TruthSocial, Trump said that sites, which were struck by GBU-57 'bunker buster' bombs and Tomahawk cruise missiles on Saturday night, sustained 'monumental damage', adding: 'The biggest damage took place far below ground level. Bullseye!!!' He also pointed to the possibility of regime change in Tehran if the country's leaders were unable to 'make Iran great again', going further than remarks by his senior officials. The remarks were made a day after US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said the mission 'was not and has not been about regime change' but instead 'a precision operation' targeting Iran's nuclear programme. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Meanwhile, Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian said the US strikes revealed Washington was 'behind' Israel's campaign against the Islamic Republic and vowed a response. Soon after his proclamation, Iran unleashed a massive missile attack on Israel in retaliation. The world is still assessing how Tehran will tackle American aggression.

Former MP and ex-Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin eyes Jubilee Hills bypoll ticket
Azhar pads up again, but pitch is getting crowded Following the sudden demise of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath, the race for the Jubilee Hills bypoll ticket is heating up within the Congress. A former BRS MP who switched sides just before the Lok Sabha elections is now eyeing the MLA ticket and has launched an aggressive campaign. But former MP and ex-Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin, who contested from the seat last time, is not backing down. He has already declared that he alone is in the race and will contest again. However, TPCC chief B Mahesh Kumar Goud struck a neutral note, saying that four names would be sent to the high command, and a final decision would be taken at the top. Meanwhile, the ex-BRS MP is lobbying hard, meeting key party leaders and hoping to send Azharuddin back to the pavilion before the innings even begins. MLAs rock the boat, who's steering? A PIL in court, four Congress MLAs pointing fingers at their own government and quite a few raised eyebrows in the ruling party. MLAs Anirudh Reddy (Jadcherla), Yennam Srinivas Reddy (Mahbubnagar), Murali Naik (Mahbubabad), and Rajesh Reddy (Nagarkurnool) have filed a petition in the High Court over encroached land near Khajaguda lake where a builder is raising eight towers, 47 floors each. It is said that a key minister might be the invisible hand guiding this move to embarrass the chief minister and flag concerns to the high command about his handling of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development portfolio. Some party leaders are wondering aloud: Was the courtroom drama really necessary? Couldn't this have been settled with a closed-door chat with the CM? Tapped, but not everyone's on the line Word is, even Gandhi Bhavan's PRO, Kappara Hariprasad —who drafts press notes and sets up media briefings — got a call from the SIT in the phone-tapping probe. But curiously, some of the Congress big guns didn't find a place in the 618-name longlist of 'eavesdropped elite'. Insiders say the SIT is relying on call logs from service providers, who only keep data for 15 days, and certain names are still missing. With the Telangana elections held way back in November 2023, that means they're trying to solve a jigsaw with half the pieces missing. At a recent chitchat, when someone asked a certain MP, who is believed to be close to the current CM, why he hadn't been summoned, the parliamentarian just chuckled and said, 'Guess 'Tapping Rao' didn't want to hear me crying about my financial woes!'

Jagan Mohan Named As Accused After Vehicle In His Convoy Runs Over YSRCP Supporter
Last Updated: A case had been registered against Jagan Mohan for the death of Cheeli Singayya, who was reportedly run over by the ex-Andhra CM's convoy in Guntur district. A case has been registered against YSRCP chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, after a party supporter lost his life after being run over by a vehicle that was part of Reddy's convoy in Guntur district. Guntur SP Satish Kumar said a case had been registered against Jagan Mohan for the death of Cheeli Singayya. On June 18, Jagan Mohan Reddy visited Rentapalla with a convoy of three vehicles to call on a family member of a YSRCP leader who had died by suicide a year ago. The event turned tragic as Singayya, who had gathered along the roadside with other YSRCP supporters, was knocked down by a vehicle in the convoy and sustained serious bleeding injuries. As the tragedy unfolded, eyewitnesses rushed to his rescue and alerted the law enforcement. Soon after, the man was taken to Guntur Government Hospital for treatment but he succumbed to his injuries. The tragedy raised concerns over crowd management and sparked widespread criticism regarding the lack of security oversight. 'After analysing various evidence, it was found that the deceased was seen under the wheels of Jagan Mohan Reddy's vehicle," said Guntur district Superintendent of Police (SP) S Satish Kumar, addressing a press conference late on Sunday. A case was initially registered under Section 106(1) of BNS (causing death by negligence) based on a complaint by his wife, Cheeli Lurdhu Mary, at the local police station. However, the SP said that after examining CCTV footage, drone videos, eyewitnesses, and other technical evidence, the case has been updated to include Sections 105 and 49 of the BNS, and legal action will be taken against all those present in the vehicle, including Jagan Mohan. Other accused include Jagan Mohan Reddy's driver Ramana Reddy, Personal Assistant K Nageshwar Reddy, senior YSRCP leader YV Subbareddy, former MLA Perni Venkataramaiah, and former Minister Vidadala Rajini, Kumar told reporters.
