To encourage responsible consumer behavior, Trident distributed cotton fabric bags across local communities to reduce single-use plastic reliance. ‘Plastic pollution alarming'
Prayagraj: Harmful effects of plastic and benefits of nano fertilisers that reduce waste and minimise environmental impact were discussed during an event jointly organised by The Times of India (TOI), Indian Farmers Fertilizers Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) and the State Bank of India (SBI) at IFFCO Ghia Nagar, Phulpur, on Monday. The event marked the culmination of environment week celebrations. Senior executive director of IFFCO, Sanjay Kudeshia, graced the event as the chief guest. Kudeshia emphasised the importance of eliminating plastic usage to declare surroundings plastic-free. He highlighted the benefits of nano fertilisers, which reduce waste and minimise environmental impact. Umesh Kumar, senior manager EPC, warned about the dangers of plastic pollution, citing alarming levels of plastic in human bodies and the environment. He advocated for using jute and cloth bags instead. The event featured a skit by local children, promoting environmental awareness and showcasing the benefits of nano fertilisers. Five local farmers shared their experiences with nano fertilisers and were honoured for their contributions. The ceremony concluded with prize distribution to winners of various competitions held during Environment Week. Senior officials, employees, and their families attended the event. tnn

Jazan municipality plants seedlings for green goals
RIYADH: Jazan municipality in Samtah governorate planted 100 diverse seedlings in Hittin Garden during Environment Week, the Saudi Press Agency reported. Held annually from April 20-26, the week promotes environmental awareness and sustainable practices. The 2025 theme, 'Our Environment is a Treasure,' highlights the Kingdom's efforts to conserve natural resources. Nasser bin Ahmed Atif, mayor of Samtah governorate, said the event aimed to raise community awareness about protecting the environment and enhancing environmental education. The regional branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification, the Technical College, and volunteer teams participated. Atif added that over the past two months, the municipality planted 1,270 seedlings of Moroccan jasmine, Indian jasmine, Bougainvillea, Vinca rosea, and Jacaranda across several locations in the governorate. The initiative is part of the Green Saudi Initiative, which seeks to preserve the environment, improve quality of life, promote environmental awareness, strengthen partnerships, and involve all segments of society in building a sustainable future.
