Two Notre Dame football commits make big jumps in Rivals most recent rankings update

Two Notre Dame football commits make big jumps in Rivals most recent rankings update It shouldn't come as a surprise that Notre Dame football has done its homework with recruits, often ignoring early recruiting rankings and trusting its scouting department. It has paid off with numerous players, and it looks like the Irish have struck gold again with two of their 2026 commitments. Both offensive tackle Ben Nichols and defensive end Ebenezer Ewetade made big jumps in Rivals most recent class rankings update. Nichols went from an unranked player to the No. 124 overall player in the country, and while Ewetade was ranked, he made a 79-spot leap to No. 218 overall. While there will still be other changes to these rankings in the future, it is still proof that Notre Dame can find gems in recruiting. The Irish currently have 14 commits in the 2026 cycle, one that is ranked by the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings as the No. 2 group in the nation. It very well could be the highest ranked class of head coach Marcus Freeman's career.

Notre Dame football ends its commitment drought, 2026 edge verbals to the Irish

The last Notre Dame football 2026 commitment came in at the end of January when offensive lineman Tyler Merrill made his verbal pledge, but the drought is finally over. North Carolina edge Ebenezer Ewetade is the one who ended the streak, and it was well worth the wait. The 6-foot, 4-inch and 221-pounder is ranked as the nation's No. 152 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Advertisement This is an impressive recruiting win for the Irish, as they beat out schools like Alabama, Georgia, Florida State and others. Ewetade had a huge junior season, as he racked up 10 sacks and four forced fumbles according to MaxPreps. Notre Dame now has eight total commits for the 2026 cycle, a class that is ranked as the No. 11 overall group according to the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings. Every other team ranked ahead of the Irish have more commitments than they do with the exception of Oregon. It is looking like Marcus Freeman is putting together another impressive group. Notre Dame football offers rising 2027 North Carolina tight end

While it may seem like the focus of Notre Dame football's recruiting effort are in the 2026 class, with two commitments in the last week (Ebenezer Ewetade and Rodney Dunham), the Irish coaching staff is still looking at classes beyond this current one. On Thursday they offered 2027 North Carolina tight end Jaxon Dollar, a 6-foot, 5-inch and 208-pound prospect. He's not currently ranked in the 247Sports Composite Rankings, but he currently holds eight offers from teams like Florida State, Michigan, Penn State and others. Most of his offers have come in the last week, so Notre Dame is getting in early on his recruitment. Advertisement Dollar caught just 13 passes during his sophomore year, but six of them went for touchdowns. His large frame should enable him to add more weight as he gets closer to enrolling at his school of choice at the next level. The Irish clearly love his potential, thus the offer was made. He also stars on the basketball court, which could potentially play a part in his decision. Either way, Dollar is a prospect that Notre Dame wants, so his recruitment will be one to monitor in the coming months. Four-star edge rusher commits to Notre Dame over Georgia

Four-star edge rusher commits to Notre Dame over Georgia The Georgia Bulldogs lost out on a major edge rusher recruit. Four-star edge Ebenezer Ewetade announced he's committing to play for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Ewetade is a four-star edge rusher from the class of 2026. The 6-foot-4, 221-pound edge plays high school football and track and field for South Garner High School in Garner, North Carolina. Georgia offered Ewetade on Jan. 10, 2025, and the Bulldogs made his list of top five schools, along with Florida State, Alabama, NC State, and Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish won Ewetade's commitment, the second time Georgia has lost out on a recruit recently to their 2025 Sugar Bowl opponent. The talented edge will still visit UGA on June 6, 2025. Ewetade's commitment gives Notre Dame the 13th best recruiting class in the country. Meanwhile, Georgia ranks just 26th, nine spots below where the Bulldogs were when Ewetade announced his top five schools. Four-star cornerback Jontavius Wyman flipped from the Bulldogs to the Miami Hurricanes in UGA's most recent recruiting news. Ewetade is the 16th ranked edge and 152nd ranked player in the class of 2026. He is also the 10th best prospect from North Carolina.
