Despite these complaints, the planning department at Norwich City Council agreed to approve Mr Ashton's application, much to the frustration of those living nearby. The size of the extension was reduced after objections were lodged to the original proposals but the concerns of neighbours and council officers were not assuaged. Comments on the application said it would visually intrude on surrounding properties in a "brutal fashion" and one person described it as an "ugly eyesore". An objection by the conservation and design team at Norwich City Council said: "The cumulative massing of the proposed development is overwhelming for a terraced property of this size. "It is considered to cause harm to the overall character of the area." Mr Ashton said he was not aware of concerns raised by neighbours and stressed the application was approved through the correct process. He said the property would be a "family home" for him, his wife, Gemma, who is a netball coach, and their children. Mr Ashton now works as football pundit but was a former England international who played for Canaries from 2005 to 2006. During his career he made 248 appearances, scoring 93 goals. He played for three clubs throughout his career, including Crewe Alexander and West Ham.

'The job fair has provided me a chance to network with companies directly and explore new sectors that align with my current skill set. 'The opportunity to talk to employers face-to-face makes a big difference compared to online applications,' he said, adding that career progression, upskilling opportunities and work-life balance were his top priorities. Iberdrola, Endesa propose review of Spain's nuclear phase-out calendar
MADRID, June 13 (Reuters) - Spain's energy companies Iberdrola ( opens new tab and Endesa ( opens new tab have sent a proposal to review the nuclear phase-out calendar, an Energy Ministry spokesperson told Reuters on Friday. The proposal was not endorsed by all the companies with stakes in Spain's nuclear fleet: Naturgy ( opens new tab and EDP ( opens new tab did not sign it, the spokesperson said. The proposal links the extension to a revision of the tax framework and, as such, isn't in line with the conditions set by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to open a discussion over the review, namely that it guarantees security of supply, safety and it doesn't weigh on taxpayers.

Late diagnosis, limited access: Study sheds light on breast cancer burden in rural Punjab
Chandigarh: As breast cancer continues to be a major cause of illness and death among the women, especially in rural areas, a study has highlighted the urgent need for improved cancer care infrastructure and early detection programmes in these regions. The findings call for a concerted public health response to ensure timely diagnosis and uninterrupted treatment, particularly in resource-limited settings. Conducted at a community health centre in Abdal, Amritsar, the study provides a stark look into the treatment challenges faced by 200 breast cancer patients between 2021 and 2024. The retrospective analysis, led by G Singh from the National Health Mission, Amritsar, focused on patients aged 25 to 72 years who were managed with systemic therapies, including chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, and targeted treatments. The findings reflect the critical role of systemic treatment in rural settings, while also exposing significant barriers to effective care. Alarmingly, 65% of the patients presented with stage III or IV breast cancer, underscoring the prevalence of delayed diagnosis in underserved regions. Despite the availability of treatment, only 70% of patients adhered to prescribed systemic therapies. In response to this growing health challenge, the Punjab govt launched an innovative Early Detection Programme (EDP) aimed at improving cancer outcomes in the rural areas.
