Lil Wayne's Son Claims Rapper Ghostwrote 'Most' Of Drake's Music: 'On God'
Lil Novi, son of Lil Wayne, is claiming that his father ghostwrote the majority of Drake's music. The young artist, 15, made the claim after being asked to choose between his pops and Drizzy as artists during a livestream session. While choosing his father was expected, his reasoning took many aback. 'My dad wrote most of his sh*t. On God. If it wasn't for my pops then it wouldn't be no Drake, for real, for real. I mean, it probably would be a Drake, but he wouldn't be where he at now.' He followed up with, 'No disrespect to Drake. He hard now, but I'm saying… Come on, man. That's not a question.' See the quick clip below. The statement spawned reactions from both Drake fans and critics, with critics highlighting past accusations of the Toronto MC using a ghostwriter. Most, however, dismissed the claim, conceding that as label mates they've likely written together, while doubting Wayne's pen is behind over a decade of Drake hits. 'Super cap, most of Drakes music has substance. Lil Wayne just be rapping bars. Lil Wayne was also exposed for having a ghost writer after falling out, and his music drastically changed,' wrote one supporter via X, with another adding, 'Let's just make this make sense how does his dad write most of Drake sh*t when he doesn't write his own sh*t the majority of Lil Wayne songs are off the top of the dome. He doesn't even know how his dad makes his music.' Lil Wayne signed Drake to his Young Money Entertainment record label in 2009. Born Neal Carter, Lil Novi — whom Wayne shares with singer Nivea — previously stirred the Hip-Hop pot when he declared Playboi Carti to be the greatest rapper of all time — aside from his father, of course. 'Obviously, my dad,' Lil Novi said when asked who is the GOAT. 'But for me, I'd say like because Carti is like the Wayne now. So yeah, Carti.' Kendrick Lamar Performs 'Not Like Us' In Toronto, And The Crowd's Reaction May Surprise You
Kendrick Lamar has been busy on the road over the last few weeks on his Grand National Tour with SZA, and fans have been especially curious what he will do when the trek touches down in Drake's home city. Last night, they finally got their answer. The GNX-supporting tour kicked off back in April of this year, so concertgoers had a good idea of which songs are part of K. Dot's setlist. The Toronto show went down as scheduled on Thursday (June 12) and will even circle back for round two on Friday (June 13). Lamar performed several Drizzy disses with the crowd rapping along to nearly every word. 'Euphoria,' one of the first few tracks from the summer 2024 rap beef, made its debut early in the evening and set the tone for what was to come. The Compton rapper also delivered 'Not Like Us,' his scathing chart-topping track where he calls Drake a pedophile, a colonizer, and more. When the now-viral 'A-minorrr' line was rapped, the attendees could be heard loudly singing along. View clips from the concert below. Fans online expressed split opinions about the footage, with people claiming Kendrick is 'milking' the moment and others saying the reaction isn't surprising and laughing along. 'Some people are from out of town but this is wild but expected,' one user wrote on X. 'What were people expecting to happen? Kendrick fans are singing Kendrick songs,' typed another. On Instagram, a top comment read, 'How are we still talking about not like us in June 2025' as another user echoed, 'Bro milking it so hard.' Speaking of shows in Canada, Top Dawg Entertainment artist SiR recently spoke about his Toronto show getting mysteriously cancelled last year and insinuated the Kendrick-Drake beef was the reason. 'So the venue in Toronto, which was partially owned by Drake, cancelled the show completely,' the singer revealed to the crowd last week in a now-viral clip. 'Then when we tried to switch venues, the next venue was like, 'Nah we ain't f**cking with it, I ain't taking no motherf**cking chance.'' He citied 'complications' that were 'too close to home for a lot of people.' Watch SiR's explanation below and read VIBE's recent review of the Grand National Tour here. Drake Breaks Record For Most Diamond-Certified Singles In RIAA History
Drake has separated himself from the pack even further. This week, the 38-year-old rapper broke the record for the most RIAA Diamond-certified singles in history after two of his classic songs broke the 10 million units threshold. 2009's 'Best I Ever Had' and 2013's 'Hold On, We're Going Home' featuring Majid Jordan were the latest Drizzy records to go Diamond, joining 'God's Plan,' 'One Dance,' 'Hotline Bling,' 'SICKO MODE,' 'Life Is Good,' 'Work,' 'Love Me,' and 'No Guidance.' These 10 records make him the first artist to reach that milestone, whether it be albums or songs. Garth Brooks runs behind him with nine Diamond-certified albums. Post Malone has 9 Diamond-certified singles. The Toronto superstar is also 2025's No. 1 best-selling artist in the United States based on total album units, according to Chart Data. LPs like Take Care and For All The Dogs still chart well, but it's the addition of his February collaboration with PARTYNEXTDOOR, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, that has aided in the milestone. Earlier this month, the 21-song effort officially crossed the one million units threshold, thus making it another Platinum album for the powerhouse. Drake added another No. 1 album to his resume with $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, which was also PARTYNEXTDOOR's first No. 1 album achieving the highest first-week sales. 'Gimme A Hug' was the initial standout record, debuting at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. 'Nokia' was more of a slow-riser, initially debuting at No. 10 but slowly climbing to No. 2. He added to the record's momentum with the greyscale 'Nokia' music video at the end of March, which was loaded with symbolism and cultural references to Toronto. Currently, the part-time crooner is inviting fans to conceive their own music video treatment for the cult favorite 'Somebody Loves Me,' so time will tell when that visual lands. Drake dismisses 'Drake Curse' after disastrous $1M Leafs bet, Bieber blame
Article content Instead of adding more grist to the 'Curse' mill, Drake simply said he's a 'flawed sports bettor.' 'I will not deny that. That's not my gift. I'll let everybody roll with it,' Drizzy admitted. 'I'm sure if you're a Drake curse believer, there will be plenty more content in the future for you to confirm your theories because my slips do not cash out. But one day I'm gonna have a parlay that's insane and then everybody is going to be on quiet mode.' Talk of a 'Curse' has been bubbling for years after the lyricist was blamed for Serena Williams' loss to an unranked player at the 2015 U.S. Open, but it took a strong foothold in 2019 when Drake showed up during Game 4 of the NHL playoffs between Toronto and the Boston Bruins in Maple Leafs gear and guess what? The Leafs lost 6-4. That same year, after the rhymester took a photo with Paris Saint-Germain's Layvin Kurzawa, he was blamed for the soccer club's 5-1 loss to Lille. As a result, Italy's AS Roma banned its players from taking selfies with the Juno winner until after its season ended.
