Serena Williams, for instance, lost the 2015 U.S. Open semifinals after being seen with him. Similarly, earlier this year, the self-declared 'flawed sports bettor' placed a $1.25 million bet on the Ice Hockey team Toronto Maple Leafs emerging victorious in Game 7 against the Florida Panthers. However, that did not happen as The Leafs were eliminated from the Eastern Conference Finals. Despite this, he has placed an $800,000 bet on Game 6 of the NBA Finals, with the Oklahoma City Thunder leading the series. He has also wagered $600,000 on a Thunder win and another $200,000 on them winning by 6–10 points. If both bets prove to be correct, he could earn about $1.7 million

The Drake Curse strikes again: Rapper's $800K bet on Thunder goes bust in NBA Finals Game 6

The Oklahoma City Thunder lost big in Game 6 of the 2025 NBA Finals on Thursday. And so did Drake. The rapper posted on Instagram the day before the game that he had placed $800,000 in bets on the Thunder: $600,000 on them to win outright and $200,000 on them to win by between six and 10 points. Had both bets paid off for Drake, he would have received payouts totaling $1.734 million. Advertisement His comment to his fellow Canadian Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: "Check that box @shai." Of course, OKC didn't win by 6-10 points. They lost, by a lot more than that. Despite concerns around an injury for star Tyrese Haliburton entering the game, the Pacers jumped on the Thunder and led by as many as 31 points in front of a raucous Gainbridge Fieldhouse crowd. The Drake Curse, in which teams he's bet on regularly underperform, has been a known phenomenon in the world of sports for years. Drake also shared "the other side of gambling" on IG on Wednesday, showing a net loss of more than $8 million on nearly $125 million in bets over the past month. Advertisement Those numbers likely won't be better after OKC's loss. Funnily enough, Drake hasn't even lost the most of any rapper betting on the Thunder this series. Jay-Z dropped $1 million on the Thunder, who were overwhelming favorites to win the title, to beat the Pacers in five games. That bet went bust after three games. Now we wait and see if either man is willing to put up any more money for Game 7, which is bound to be chaotic given how this series has gone so far.
