Trump military parade VIP guests include a dog named 'Doc Holliday' and his two mules
There will be tanks, parachute jumps, flyovers and, of course, a cameo from MAGA crooner Lee Greenwood. But the star of Saturday's military parade marking the Army's 250th anniversary - and President Donald Trump 's birthday - could be a two-year-old Blue Heeler named Private Doc Holliday. This dog named Doc - named after Wyatt Earp's buddy made famous by the 1881 O.K. Corral shootout portrayed in the movie Tombstone - is part of the Texas-based 1st Cavalry Division of the U.S. Army. Altogether, the 1st Cavalry Division is bringing 14 horses, two mules and Doc Holliday to giddy-up and strut down Constitution Avenue Saturday evening if all goes according to plan. On Thursday weather reports appeared to put Saturday's parade, which will kick off at 6:30 p.m., in jeopardy. A Pentagon source confirmed to the Daily Mail that if there's lightning in the area the parade will have to be canceled or postponed. A White House spokesperson pressed that some show would go on. 'Any changes to the Army Birthday Parade will be announced by the Department of Defense of America 250 Commission. No matter what, a historic celebration of our military servicemembers will take place!' deputy press secretary Anna Kelly said to the Daily Mail. The Weather Channel's current forecast for Saturday in Washington calls for cloudy skies in the morning with thunderstorms developing later in the day. 'The weather is being closely monitored and taken into consideration, but at this point nothing has changed. If there are any changes in the future we will notify you as soon as possible,' Army spokesperson Heather Hagan told the Daily Mail early Friday morning. The parade itself will only last an hour - with a concert planned directly afterward followed by a fireworks display over the National Mall. Trump has long wanted to have a military-style parade, after seeing France's Bastille Day festivities, which also marked the U.S.'s 100th anniversary of entering World War I, in July of 2017. During his first term he was dissuaded from holding one over cost concerns. The tanks are likely to beat up Washington, D.C.'s roads - and the federal government would need to pay district taxpayers back for the damage. Instead, in 2019, the president held a 'Salute to America' on the Fourth of July in front of the Lincoln Memorial, where tanks were on display, and several flyovers occurred. It drizzled that day, but the event was able to go on. 'And I haven't even heard about a protest, but you know this is people that hate our country, but they will be met with very heavy force,' the president added. On Wednesday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt had to defend Trump and say that he supported the First Amendment, which gives Americans the right to assemble peacefully and to protest. An organization called 'No Kings' is organizing demonstrations across the country on June 14th, the day of the military parade. 'No Kings' planners have pushed potential demonstrators to not take to the streets in D.C. - where there is already a robust security response. The White House, Capitol and certain roadways have been outlined with fencing ahead of Saturday's events. Instead 'No Kings' organizers have encouraged people to protest in Philadelphia or in suburban Maryland and Virginia, instead of D.C. proper. Some Democrats have also pushed like-minded people online to RSVP for the military parade, only to be no-shows, so Trump's crowds aren't as robust as the president would like. A similar tactic was organized during Trump's controversial 2020 Tulsa rally, which was held indoors amid the COVID-19 pandemic, with many seats left empty.

Hours before the Capital Pride Parade during WorldPride in Washington, D.C., fencing at a key gathering spot for Pride celebrations is being taken down, two sources told ABC News. The decision comes following public outcry and a reversal by the U.S. Park Police and the National Park Service, which had made the decision to close off Dupont Circle Park ahead of Saturday's parade, which marks the 50th anniversary of Capital Pride. Two sources confirmed to ABC News that the park, long the site of unofficial Pride parties and gatherings in the city, is being reopened ahead of the event. The fencing was initially requested by the Metropolitan Police Department in April due to safety concerns following past incidents during Pride events, though there are no known credible threats to the nation's capital as tens of thousands gather to celebrate, officials told ABC News. After a debate between federal officials, city police and LGBTQ+ activists, the U.S. Park Police announced the park would close from 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, through approximately 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 8. Police Chief Pamela Smith later rescinded the request to close the park, the National Park Service continued with the plan, prompting backlash from local politicians and activists. "D.C. is no stranger to high-profile gatherings," said Smith, the first African American woman to lead the U.S. Park Police in its 200-year-plus history, after attempting to get the closure rescinded after public backlash. "We have a proven track record of hosting them safely and successfully, and this year will be no different." Mayor Muriel Bowser then called for the decision to be reversed, and the reversal was granted. Preparations for the international celebration have been years in the making, and at least one party promoter had already advertised an event in the park before the closing was announced. Federal officials had said that closing the park was part of a broader federal security plan amid what they said were concerns about crowd control and potential disruptions. In recent years, the space has seen several incidents that that officials say prompted concern from law enforcement. According to authorities, in 2019, a person was arrested after gunshots caused crowds to flee. In 2023, the park was vandalized, resulting in $175,000 in damage to the historic fountain. In 2024, a group of minors was found drinking, smoking marijuana and fighting in the park. They later ran into nearby businesses and reportedly stole items. In a letter obtained by ABC News, the U.S. Park Police initially wrote that the closure was necessary to "secure the park, deter potential violence, reduce the risk of destructive acts and decrease the need for extensive law enforcement presences." "MPD, alongside all of our district agencies and public safety partners, have been working for many months to plan for these large-scale events that are happening this summer, and our joint planning efforts have included site visits, tabletop exercise, intelligence coordination and layered security strategies tailored uniquely to these events to ensure that we can keep our city safe for World Pride 2025," Smith said. "We have been planning for over a year." How do you go from what Marshall pulled off in 2024 to a complete and total rebuild that fast?The Herd got red hot, ripped through a relatively weak conference slate, won the game it had to pull off at James Madison, and shut down Louisiana cold for a 31-3 victory for the Sun Belt ten-win season was the first since the Doc Holliday days of 2015, and then head coach Charles Huff took the Southern Miss job. While watching the dozens of tanks and thousands of soldiers scheduled to parade through the nation's capital later this month, keep an eye out for a pair of pricked ears and a bushy, white-tipped tail. Man's best friend is participating in the sweeping June 14 celebration honoring the Army's 250th birthday and falling on President Donald Trump's 79th birthday. He's a 2½-year-old Blue Heeler named Doc Holliday — a nod to the gunslinger depicted in the American western movie 'Tombstone.' Doc, for short.
