Dinesh Karthik Worried For Jasprit Bumrah: 'Others Need To Push Gill And...'

Last Updated: Dinesh Karthik is concerned about India's over-reliance on Jasprit Bumrah and the impact it could have on his body. Dinesh Karthik is worried about India's overreliance on Jasprit Bumrah and the impact it can have on the fast-bowler's fitness. The former wicketkeeper-batter felt that the 'void' between Bumrah and the rest of the bowling attack was 'too much' on the second day of the Headingley Test in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, adding that it was high time that other bowlers 'pushed' skipper Shubman Gill and took the initiative. Just like several days on the tour of Australia last year, Bumrah was India's only wicket-taker on Sunday. He got three scalps for 48 runs in 13 overs as Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shardul Thakur all went wicketless in the remaining 36. Ollie Pope scored a century and Ben Duckett hit 62 as England finished the day at a good position of 209/3 with India's lead at 262 runs. 'In a day where there are hardly 60 overs bowled, Bumrah has already bowled 13. Every time you need a wicket, it has to be Bumrah. And he always does it for you so you get into that habit. Others need to find a way to definitely push the captain and say, 'I am ready, give me the ball, this is my plan, I want to do this'," Karthik added. Bumrah's troubles were compounded by two dropped catches and Harry Brook's wicket off a no-ball in the last over of the day. Jasprit Bumrah explains why he resisted India Test captaincy temptation

India pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah has said he 'had to say no' to captaincy of the Test side due to workload, speaking before the series against England. The 31-year-old has struggled with injuries of late, missing part of this year's IPL and India's campaign in the Champions Trophy due to a back issue. Advertisement Speaking to former India wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik for Sky Sports, he said there were no 'fancy stories' to his decision not to take on the captaincy, which has instead fallen upon batter Shubman Gill. "There is no controversy or there's no headlining statements that I was sacked or I was not looked after,' he said. Bumrah revealed he spoke to the BCCI, India's cricketing governing body, before legendary duo Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired. 'I have discussed my workloads going forward in a five-Test match series. I've spoken to the people who have managed my back. I've spoken to the surgeon as well, who's always spoken to me about how smart you have to be about the workloads. Advertisement "I did speak to him and then we came to a conclusion that I have to be a little more smart. I called the BCCI and said I don't want to be looked at in a leadership role because I won't be able to give [it my] all Test matches coming a five-Test match series.' Bumrah said he was having no issues with fitness ahead of the five-match series in England, which starts on Friday, 20 June at Headingley. However, he described the potential of another injury in the same part of his back that kept him out earlier in the year as 'career-ending'. Jasprit Bumrah has an impressive record across all formats (PA) The skilful pacer has notched 205 wickets in just 45 Tests, with an average below 20 and an economy rate south of 3.0 in a Test climate of ever-increasing run-scoring. Advertisement Bumrah, who is eyeing up playing three of the five matches in the series, added: 'The BCCI was looking at me at leadership. But then I had to say no. It's not fair for the team as well that in a five Test-match series, someone is leading in three matches and someone else in two matches. "I cannot be dictating if I'd have been the captain that, 'okay, I'll only play three Test matches'. That doesn't send a good message to the team.' India and England open their five-match series in Leeds, competing for the newly christened Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru finally clinched their maiden IPL title in 2025, with Virat Kohli top-scoring in the final. However, post-match attention shifted to mentor Dinesh Karthik after ex-England captains Atherton and Hussain hilariously roasted him on a podcast. They teased Karthik for giving Kohli a 'five-minute lecture' before his dismissal. Though caught off guard, Karthik laughed it off. Despite the fun, his role in RCB's success remains widely appreciated. and subscribe to our channel and never miss a to CricketNext YouTube channel to never miss a video: CricketNext on Facebook: CricketNext on Twitter: CricketNext on Instagram: : Kohli , Dinesh Karthik , IPL 2025 Final , RCB vs PBKS , Royal Challengers Bengaluru , Punjab Kings , Michael Atherton , Nasser Hussain , Sky Sports Podcast , Kohli Karthik Moment , IPL Final Drama , Kohli Dismissal , RCB Coach , RCB Champion , IPL Funny Moments , Cricket Banter , Cricket Podcast , Dinesh Karthik Coaching , Kohli RCB , IPL Trophy , IPL Memes , Cricket Humor , Kohli Out After Timeout , Kohli DK , IPL Final Highlight , RCB First Trophy , IPL Strategic Timeout , Indian Premier League , IPL Viral Clip , Cricket Fans , IPL News , RCB IPL 2025 Win

Jasprit Bumrah To Miss More Than 1 Test vs England? Pacer Says "What I Can Manage..."

Indian cricket team star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has revealed that it is likely that he will play three Tests in the upcoming five-match series against England. There has been a lot of chatter surrounding his workload management and BCCI previously made it clear that he will not be playing all the five matches. During an interview with former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik for Sky Sports Cricket, Bumrah said that the number is not decided but he is looking to play in 3 Tests keeping his workload in mind. However, he did hint that he can play one more Test if the team and situations needs it. 'Plan on the go. 3 Test matches is what I'm looking at,' Bumrah said. 'Obviously, the number is not decided. First (Test) is definitely on, that is going to happen. Rest, we will see how things are, what is the workload and scenario... but yes. 3 Tests is what I can manage at the moment.' Bumrah finally broke his silence on not becoming the Indian cricket team captain for the upcoming Test series against England. In a recent interview, Bumrah revealed that he was a captaincy choice for the BCCI selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar but the star fast bowler had to turn them down due to 'workload management'. As a result, Shubman Gill was handed the captaincy after the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant was appointed his deputy for the England series. In the interview with former India wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik on SKY Sports, Bumrah shared his conversation with the BCCI selectors regarding his workload and how hard it was for him to give up captaincy. "Before Rohit and Virat retired during the IPL, I had spoken to the BCCI about my workloads going forward in a five-test match series. I've spoken to the people who have managed my back. I've spoken to the surgeon as well, who's always spoken to me about how smart you have to be about the workloads. So I did speak to him, and then we came to the conclusion that I have to be a little smarter. So then I called the BCCI and said I don't want to be looked at in a leadership role because I won't be able to give all the Test matches in a five-test match series," Bumrah said.
