Leakster: ARM's new prime CPU core will improve IPC to run more efficiently
Yesterday, MediaTek's Dimensity 9500 surfaced on Geekbench, which was our first brush with ARM's new prime core. It is codenamed 'Travis' and no, it wasn't running at 4GHz, just 3.23GHz. Travis is not official yet, but leakster Digital Chat Station reports that it will be unveiled in September. The key metric for flagship chips will become IPC, 'instructions per clock cycle', according to DCS. This may spell the end of the gigahertz race on mobile. The simplest explanation of IPC is that a CPU with double the IPC needs half the clock speed to do the same amount of work. Reality is not so simple, but that is the rule of thumb. Travis will deliver 'double-digit growth' in IPC (measured in percent), which will allow it to run more efficiently. Remember that higher clock speeds require a higher core voltage and heat generation goes up as the square of the voltage – meaning that even small differences can have a big impact. The Travis core also supports SME, ARM's Scalable Matrix Extension. Matrix and vector calculations are the heart of all trendy AI applications, but also just about every classic signal processing algorithm (think image and audio processing). Besides a single Travis core, the Dimensity 9500 will also be equipped with three Alto and four Gelas cores (Gelas being the next Cortex-A7xx core, while Alto is a bit of a mystery). The GPU is a new design from ARM codenamed 'Drage', which will be sold under the 'Mali-G1' branding. You can check out the ARM presentation from Computex 2025 here, specifically the section titled 'A sneak peek of next-generation ARM Lumex CSS' (Compute Sub-System). PS. ARM is retiring the 'Cortex' brand and will split it into several branches: 'Lumex' for mobile, 'Niva' for PC, 'Zena' for automotive, 'Neoverse' for servers and 'Orbis' for IoT. Source

MediaTek Dimensity 9500 details revealed through Geekbench scoresheet
MediaTek's next-gen flagship SoC, the Dimensity 9500, is rumored to arrive earlier than usual to beat Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 to the market. So we are looking at early to mid-September debut. MediaTek's Dimensity 9500 processor spotted on Geekbench with Mali-G1-Ultra MC12 Dimensity 9500 Chipset/SoC4 Cores @ 2.23 GHz Gelas3 Cores @ 3.03 GHz Alto1 Core @ 3.23 GHz Travis X930🎮 Mali-G1-Ultra MC12 1MHz frequency alps k6993v1_64 — Abhishek Yadav (@yabhishekhd) June 16, 2025 Now that the alleged Dimensity 9500 has gone through Geekbench, which has filled us in on the specs. The chip will feature 1x Travis X930 main core clocked at 3.23 GHz, 3x Alto cores running at 3.03 GHz and 4x Gelas cores ticking at 2.23 GHz. The Mali-G1-Ultra MC12 GPU will take care of the graphics, clocked at 1000 MHz. The info from Geekbench seems to be aligned with the April leak, all eight cores. The only discrepancy is the GPU, which was thought to be Immoralis-Drage. A previous report also suggested the new NPU will be significantly more powerful, capable of delivering 100 TOPS. We will likely start seeing the chipset appear on various benchmark databases in the coming weeks and months, so stay tuned.

MediaTek Dimensity 9500's announcement date tipped
Vlad, 10 June 2025 Qualcomm is unveiling the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 in late September, and its main competitor will undoubtedly be MediaTek's Dimensity 9500. With that in mind, you may have been wondering when to expect it to be announced. According to a new rumor from the prolific Chinese leaker who goes by Digital Chat Station on Weibo, MediaTek will one-up Qualcomm by unveiling its next flagship chipset even earlier. Chinese smartphone makers are expected to then introduce their next-gen flagship devices (the ones that usually come in October to December) quite quickly after the chips take the stage - most could actually become official by the end of September. If true, September is going to be a very, very busy month in the mobile world - let's not forget Apple's new iPhones are coming then as well. So for some Android brands, their current flagship devices will only have been for sale (in China at least) for 9-10 months before their successors get introduced. It remains to be seen how the buyers of those phones will take all of this. Source (in Chinese)
