Shamal reveal plans for "Urban Oasis" at historic Dubai Zoo site

The site of the historic Dubai Zoo is being converted into a low-rise development that honours its legacy. The Dubai Zoo shut its doors in 2017, with all the animals moving to Dubai Safari Park, and was considered something of a landmark in the emirate. Located in Jumeirah, the Dubai Zoo was originally built in 1967 and was home to more than 100 species of animals. And now, investment firm Shamal is building a residential and lifestyle destination which has been inspired by the organic clusters and greenery that was once the Dubai Zoo. The new development will prioritise walkability and open green space, including shared courtyards, a large central park and preserved mature trees. The new space will respect the legacy of the old landmark through organic architecture, sustainable landscaping and community-led design. Plans include an array of amenities for the eventual residents, including courtyards and a club house, a wellness area, a dedicated children's play area, a family pool, lounge and gym. Abdulla Binhabtoor, Chief Executive Officer at Shamal, explained the plans to honour the site of the old zoo. He said: 'This is more than a redevelopment; it is a profound reimagining of a beloved landmark that holds deep connections for countless individuals and the wider community. 'At Shamal, we aspire to deliver the extraordinary – not through scale alone, but through intention, care, and design that speaks to the soul of the city. 'Our vision is to respectfully honour the site's rich past and curate a progressive space for modern living. 'It is designed for people to live, connect, and thrive, fostering a personal, calm, and grounded lifestyle that blends heritage with the present.' Khalid Al Najjar of DXB Lab explained the design process of the old landmark. He said: 'Our design process began with a deep exploration of the site's history and natural character. 'We were inspired by the organic clusters and greenery that once defined the Dubai Zoo, and we translated those elements into a geometric architectural language that feels both rooted and forward-looking. 'This project is a tribute to Jumeirah's legacy – an environment where memory and modernity coexist.' How to sell your car in Dubai: 3 expert tips you might not know

If you're looking to sell your car in Dubai, there are some steps you can take to make it a whole lot easier. With a lot of people across the city doing exactly the same, it can be difficult to stand out but there are actually some super easy tricks to bag a quick sale. If you like this: Driving in Dubai? Here's what you must know about Salik tolls To bag a great deal with ease, dubizzle, the city's online buying and selling platform, shares the ultimate advice. How to sell your car in Dubai Pick your timing (Credit: Canva) If you're trying for a quick and easy process, the time of year that you choose to post your ad can make a huge difference. Speaking about the two best times of year to sell, a dubizzle spokesperson said: 'The months before summer holidays or just after new year are popular periods when expats are either upgrading or preparing to leave the country. 'Listing your car during these high-traffic windows can dramatically improve your chances of a quick sale.' Price it right (Credit: Supplied) According to data from dubizzle, there's a key price range that you can put your car up for that is sought after by potential buyers. It turns out the majority of online users on dubizzle (an impressive 24 percent) are searching for cars in the range of Dhs50,000 to Dhs100,000, meaning if you list your car in this range, it's more likely to be seen. 20 percent of users are also searching for vehicles in the Dhs25,000 to Dhs50,000 range. A dublizzle spokesperson added: 'The smartest way to price your car is to look at similar listings: same model, year, mileage, and condition. This gives you a realistic benchmark. 'Asking for too much can deter potential buyers, while setting the price too low might get attention, but at the cost of money left on the table.' Go all out on the detail (Credit: Supplied) When you're selling your car, more is more. Shoppers want to know everything, from the model of the car to mileage. A dubizzle spokesperson added: 'For your listing, include all important details like key features, body type, mileage, service history, accidents (if any), number of owners, and any recent repairs or upgrades. 'Avoid vague lines like 'great condition' and instead mention specifics like 'new tyres fitted in May 2024' or 'full service done at 80,000km'. Listings with full-service history and clear, detailed descriptions get more engagement.' Be sure to also clearly list the make and model of your car, with SUVs and sedans currently sitting as the favourite choice in the UAE with 44 and 31 percent of views on dubizzle. Mercedes-Benz and Toyota are also currently ranked as some of the most popular models. Abu Dhabi court orders driver to pay Dhs90,000 to a man he injured in road accident

An individual has been ordered to pay Dhs90,000 in compensation to another individual, as he caused injuries to the latter as result of his negligence and failure to adhere to traffic regulations. According to the Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court, the defendant drove his vehicle on the road without regard for the safety of others, and this was due to the fact that he was distracted while driving, which led to the accident. The consequences of the incident included a spinal injury and a permanent disability estimated at approximately 40 per cent of the spinal cord's potential benefits. The plaintiff initiated legal proceedings against the defendant, seeking compensation for the material, moral and ethical damages he suffered as a result of the crime committed against him. The total sum requested was Dhs100,000, in addition to legal interest at a rate of 12% from the date of filing the lawsuit until full payment is received, as well as fees and expenses. The plaintiff initiated legal proceedings on the basis that the defendant was responsible for his injury during a traffic accident. Consequently, he received medical treatment and sustained multiple injuries, resulting in significant damages to his person and the loss of his financial income. Based on that, a criminal lawsuit was initiated and a judgment was subsequently issued. The actions of the defendant caused the plaintiff material and moral damages, which resulted in her initiation of legal proceedings. In support of his legal claim, he submitted a traffic accident report and a number of additional documents. The Court determined that the plaintiff had sustained the injuries mentioned in the medical report prepared by the appointed forensic doctor as a consequence of the accident. This report concluded that the plaintiff's injury resulted in a spinal injury and permanent disability estimated at approximately 40 per cent of the spinal benefit. The Court also stated that the injuries sustained by the complainant constitute material damage estimated by the court at Dhs80,000, and that the injury caused the complainant pain and a feeling of sorrow, which constitutes moral damage estimated by the court at Dhs10,000.
