The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has acquired 174 hectares of land in Mogarpada, Thane, near Mumbai, to develop the city's largest integrated metro depot. The facility will serve as the central operations hub for four upcoming Metro lines in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). According to MMRDA, the strategically located depot will cater to Metro Lines 4, 4A, 10, and 11, covering a combined stretch of 55.99 km from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Mira Road. The MMRDA said that the land has been transferred to MMRDA on an 'as-is-where-is' basis, as per the Government Resolution dated October 16, 2023. The Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for all four lines were prepared by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, which recommended a single, unified depot at Mogarpada to optimise integration and efficiency, the MMRDA said in a statement. Namo Bharat trains may soon connect Bengaluru to Mysuru, Tumakuru, Hoskote and more: Report

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), which operates India's first semi-high-speed Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), has submitted a proposal to bring the Namo Bharat corridors to Karnataka, Moneycontrol reported. Four new rail corridors originating from Bengaluru have been suggested to improve regional connectivity and unlock the economic potential of key satellite cities. According to documents accessed by Moneycontrol, the proposed corridors are, Bengaluru–Hoskote–Kolar (65 km), Bengaluru–Mysuru (145 km), Bengaluru–Tumakuru (60 km), Bengaluru–Hosur–Krishnagiri–Dharmapuri (138 km, extending into Tamil Nadu), the report added. (Also Read: RCB marketing head Nikhil Sosale denied interim relief in Bengaluru stampede case) Namo Bharat trains can operate at speeds of up to 160 kmph, covering 90 km in under an hour. The first corridor between Delhi and Meerut became partially operational in October 2023, with 55 km of the total 82-km route currently in use. In a letter to the Karnataka government, the NCRTC expressed willingness to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for these or other corridors if assigned by the Government of Karnataka and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). 'Our team can also visit Bengaluru to present the proposal to the Chief Secretary and stakeholders,' the letter stated according to the publication. The proposal recommends adopting a funding model similar to that of the Delhi–Meerut RRTS: 60 per cent from multilateral agencies, 20 per cent from the Government of India, and 20 per cent from the concerned state government. To help Karnataka assess the system firsthand, NCRTC has invited state officials to visit the operational stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and Modipuram in the Delhi-NCR region. It has also offered to assist with initial documentation for the four proposed corridors. The letter also emphasized that the RRTS model incorporates global best practices, including all-weather operations, advanced signalling systems, and an exclusive viaduct/tunnel-based alignment. 'We believe Karnataka, with its strong GDP contribution, will benefit from fast and reliable commuting options like the Namo Bharat system,' it added. Addressing a press conference Wednesday, Gupta said major arterial roads — Rohtak Road (Punjabi Bagh to Nangloi), Ashram to Badarpur, and MG Road — have now been handed over to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). These roads will be upgraded into signal-free corridors with complete supporting infrastructure, including drainage, side lanes, and real-time monitoring systems. 'Earlier, multiple agencies led to fragmented execution and chronic waterlogging. Now, NHAI will be the single-point authority, with support from the Delhi Public Works Department,' she said. The press conference was held following a high-level meeting chaired by Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. The meeting was also attended by Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, Union MoS Harsh Malhotra, Delhi Cabinet Ministers, MPs, and senior officials from key departments. These include: -A 7-km underground tunnel from Shiv Murti to Nelson Mandela Road -An elevated road from INA to the airport (eventually connecting Faridabad and Gurgaon) -Extensions of Urban Extension Road-II linking Alipur to Tronica City and the Delhi–Dehradun route. -A feasibility study is also underway for a tunnel from Sarai Kale Khan to IGI Airport. – A 20-km link road from Inderlok Metro Station along the Munak Canal to Sonipat has been proposed. Gupta said this new route would relieve traffic from Mukarba Chowk and benefit thousands of daily commuters travelling between Delhi and Haryana. The CM said the NHAI is currently executing road and transport projects worth Rs 35,000 crore across the Capital. This comes in addition to Rs 64,000-crore worth of completed works, covering 1,578 km of roads. Furthermore, Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for upcoming projects worth Rs 24,000 crore — spanning 128 km — have been prepared and await rollout. The NHAI has also sanctioned Rs 150 crore for the construction of Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Under Bridges (RUBs) to remove bottlenecks near railway crossings. Gupta expressed her gratitude to PM Narendra Modi and Minister Gadkari, stating, 'With Rs 1.25 lakh crore worth of decongestion projects in Delhi, the Centre has shown unparalleled commitment to transforming Delhi into a clean, green, and world-class city.' The Chief Minister also highlighted NHAI's eco-friendly practices, such as using inert solid waste and construction debris from Delhi's landfills in road construction.
