DDA plans hot-air balloon rides at two sports complexes

Kwill get a unique experience of hot-air balloon ride as the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is planning to launch the recreational rides at Yamuna Sports Complex and Commonwealth Games Village Sports Complex, officials said. According to officials, after careful consideration, the two locations have been selected for the initial start of the project, and a tender has been issued inviting private players to operate these rides at DDA sites. 'These sites will be offered for operation of hot air ballooning on a revenue-sharing basis. The required area, approximately 60 metres by 60 metres at each site, will be provided to the firm as per mutually agreed timings and days,' the tender issued by the DDA. With an eye on generating revenue and promoting tourism, the landowning agency has marked four sites at each of the two mega sports complexes managed by it. Currently there are several other sporting areas within these complexes. According to the officials, firms will be allowed to advertise on the balloons, and the licence issued will be for three years, which will be extendable up to a maximum of nine years. 'The space will be provided to the firm for undertaking a maximum of four hours of flying per day. However, temporary permission for additional hours may be granted by DDA on a case-to-case basis,' the proposal added. The price of the hot-air balloon rides will be decided by the firm, however, DDA has directed to keep the tickets at a reasonable price. Spread across a vast space of around 100 acres, the Commonwealth Games Village along the banks of the Yamuna River was constructed as a residence for athletes during the Commonwealth Games in 2010. It is located near Akshardham temple. The Yamuna Sports Complex situated in Surajmal Vihar was also constructed for the games.

Sky's the limit: DDA plans hot air balloon rides

New Delhi: Delhiites will soon be able to enjoy hot air balloon rides, with Delhi Development Authority confirming plans to introduce tethered balloon services at Yamuna Sports Complex and CWG Village Sports Complex. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Two other sites along the Yamuna floodplain—Asita and Baansera—have also been selected for the initiative. The service will be operated by a designated firm, which will provide its own equipment and staff, under a revenue-sharing model with DDA. "We have already earmarked sites at four locations. A notice inviting tender has been issued and the last date to apply is July 7. For the safety of visitors, we have made it mandatory that the agency will have a minimum of one year of experience in operating hot air balloon services or tethered hot air balloon services or similar aviation-based recreational activities," said an official. Besides valid licences and certifications, a proven track record of safety and compliance with aviation standards and a licence under the air operator permit or non-scheduled operator permit as issued by the Union civil aviation ministry would be among other compliances DDA would demand from the operator. After the award of the letter, the firm will be given 45 days to set up the required infrastructure and equipment and make the professionals available to commence the operations. The tenure of the licence will be three years, which can be extended for three terms, up to a maximum of nine years, stated the authority. "The price of the ride will be decided by the firm. However, it should be reasonable and will need to be approved by the competent authority of DDA. The sale of tickets will be arranged jointly by the firm and DDA to ensure transparency and record-keeping. The entire amount will be credited to DDA's account," stated the authority. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The firm will be permitted to use the balloon as well as certain hoardings as decided by DDA to get sponsors and for advertisements. "However, no advertisement carrying information or graphics or other items relating to alcohol and tobacco products, objectionable or indecent content, as defined by industry standards, etc., would be allowed," stated the authority. To attract more people to the Yamuna floodplain, DDA is making efforts to restore the greenery at these places, besides developing waterbodies, children's playing areas and recently initiating work on establishing eating facilities.

Delhi to soon launch hot-air balloon rides at 2 locations: Check details

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is set to launch hot-air balloon rides at two landmark venues in the city in a bid to boost tourism and generate additional revenue. Officials confirmed the rides will be introduced at the Commonwealth Games Village complex near Akshardham and the Yamuna Sports Complex in Surajmal Vihar—two expansive sites developed ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games but underutilised in recent years. The locations were selected for their large open spaces and easy accessibility, according to a PTI report. Private operators to run services on revenue-sharing basis The DDA has issued tenders inviting private firms to operate the hot-air balloon services on a revenue-sharing model. According to the tender document: 'These sites will be offered for operation of hot-air ballooning on a revenue-sharing basis. The required area, approximately 60 metres by 60 metres at each site, will be provided to the firm as per mutually agreed timings and days.' Each selected operator will receive a 60-metre square launch area at both sites. The initial licence will be valid for three years, extendable to a maximum of nine years based on performance and public interest. Flexible operating hours, ticket pricing left to operators Under the current proposal, hot-air balloon flights will be allowed up to four hours per day, with the possibility of extending operating hours based on demand. While ticket prices will be set by the private operators, the DDA has asked firms to keep the fares 'reasonable' to ensure broad accessibility. To make the offering commercially viable, operators will also be permitted to display advertisements on the balloons—offering brands a high-visibility promotional opportunity while generating extra revenue. Yamuna Sports Complex, Surajmal Vihar: An east Delhi multi-sport facility with large open spaces, also developed in the run-up to the 2010 Games. The initiative is part of the DDA's broader push to revive and monetise legacy infrastructure while offering Delhi residents and tourists a unique aerial view of the city's skyline and riverfront.

Soon, you may enjoy Turkey-like hot air balloon rides at these two locations in Delhi

Delhi residents may soon experience the thrill of hot-air ballooning, similar to popular rides in Turkey's Cappadocia region, without leaving the city. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has announced plans to introduce recreational hot-air balloon rides at two major locations — the Commonwealth Games Village near Akshardham and the Yamuna Sports Complex in Surajmal Vihar — as part of a new tourism push. Delhi Hot Air Balloons: Two sites selected for initial launch Following internal evaluations, DDA has identified the two sports complexes for the pilot phase. A tender has been issued, inviting private firms to run the hot-air balloon services. 'These sites will be offered for operation of hot air ballooning on a revenue-sharing basis. The required area, approximately 60 metres by 60 metres at each site, will be provided to the firm as per mutually agreed timings and days,' the tender issued by DDA stated. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 'Swing is King': Top Trader Hemant's Strategy Finally Explained in this Free Session ! However, temporary permission for additional hours may be granted by DDA on a case-to-case basis,' the proposal added. Live Events Ticket prices to be operator-driven, but must stay reasonable While the pricing for the balloon rides will be set by the operator, DDA has directed that ticket costs be kept at an affordable level for the general public. Leisure tourism to be added to legacy sports infrastructure The Commonwealth Games Village, located along the Yamuna River and built to house athletes for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, spans nearly 100 acres. The Yamuna Sports Complex in Surajmal Vihar was also developed as part of the same event. Both sites are currently used for sports activities and have additional open spaces. To begin with, four specific locations have been marked at each complex to host the balloon rides, aiming to increase footfall and make better use of the existing infrastructure. If successful, Delhi could soon offer its own version of the scenic hot-air balloon experiences popular in global tourist hubs. Ropeway along Yamuna in the works, says DDA Delhi could soon also get its first urban ropeway system, with the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) planning to build the transport line along the Yamuna river. The proposed aerial route is expected to give passengers elevated views of religious sites, riverbanks, and parts of Old Delhi, officials said. Ropeway to be integrated with Kalindi Aviral project The ropeway is expected to begin from the Kalindi Aviral site, a riverfront project currently under development along the Yamuna's western bank. Spread over 163 hectares, the Kalindi Aviral corridor covers the stretch from NH-24 to the Barapullah drain. The Baansera park near Sarai Kale Khan, which has already been opened to the public, is part of this larger initiative. Capacity and technical details under discussion The proposed ropeway aims to carry up to 3,000 passengers per hour in each direction. According to the initial plan, each gondola will have a capacity of eight to ten people. However, key design elements including the final route alignment, number of stations, and placement of towers are still being finalised. The ropeway plan is part of a broader effort to improve mobility and promote tourism along the Yamuna, while also adding green and recreational infrastructure. (Inputs from PTI)
