Two other sites along the Yamuna floodplain—Asita and Baansera—have also been selected for the initiative. The service will be operated by a designated firm, which will provide its own equipment and staff, under a revenue-sharing model with DDA.
"We have already earmarked sites at four locations. A notice inviting tender has been issued and the last date to apply is July 7. For the safety of visitors, we have made it mandatory that the agency will have a minimum of one year of experience in operating hot air balloon services or tethered hot air balloon services or similar aviation-based recreational activities," said an official.
Besides valid licences and certifications, a proven track record of safety and compliance with aviation standards and a licence under the air operator permit or non-scheduled operator permit as issued by the Union civil aviation ministry would be among other compliances DDA would demand from the operator.
After the award of the letter, the firm will be given 45 days to set up the required infrastructure and equipment and make the professionals available to commence the operations.
The tenure of the licence will be three years, which can be extended for three terms, up to a maximum of nine years, stated the authority.
"The price of the ride will be decided by the firm. However, it should be reasonable and will need to be approved by the competent authority of DDA. The sale of tickets will be arranged jointly by the firm and DDA to ensure transparency and record-keeping. The entire amount will be credited to DDA's account," stated the authority.

The firm will be permitted to use the balloon as well as certain hoardings as decided by DDA to get sponsors and for advertisements. "However, no advertisement carrying information or graphics or other items relating to alcohol and tobacco products, objectionable or indecent content, as defined by industry standards, etc., would be allowed," stated the authority.
To attract more people to the Yamuna floodplain, DDA is making efforts to restore the greenery at these places, besides developing waterbodies, children's playing areas and recently initiating work on establishing eating facilities.

Process of reviving Salem Steel Plant at preliminary stage: Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy

Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy said the process of reviving the Salem Steel Plant is at a preliminary stage, on Saturday (June 21, 2025.) The Union Minister participated in the International Yoga Day celebrations at Salem Steel Plant on Saturday and performed asanas. International Yoga Day LIVE updates: Yoga teaches us we are not isolated individuals but integral parts of nature: PM Modi Later, speaking to the reporters, the Union Minister congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for encouraging the Hindu culture of yoga. 'Every year on June 21, the Prime Minister himself attends yoga and encourages every family to do yoga, as it is a must to look after their health. By participating in yoga, the Prime Minister also encouraged the world to do yoga.' Stating that it is his second visit to Salem Steel Plant after becoming Union Minister, Mr. Kumaraswamy said, 'We are working out how to revive Salem Steel Plant. We have constituted two consultative committees to give their recommendations to improve the Salem Steel Plant technically and market-wise, which are in the preliminary stage. We have a sentiment about the plant that it was earlier running successfully and each family had this plant product. In the year 2003-04, the plant functioned with ₹180 crore profit. But now, in the last 10 to 15 years, the profit is declining and steps are being taken to sort this out, which are in preliminary stages.' Since the steps to revive this plant are still in the preliminary stage, we expect to receive proper information within the next four or five months. Several consumer products could be produced at Salem Plant and we are working on it. 'At present, there is no idea for new recruitment for the plant and the first duty is to save this plant and sort out the workers issue and after strengthening the plant, there will be new recruitment,' the Minister added. Responding to a question on the BJP trying to divide regional parties, the Union Minister replied that the BJP is not dividing the parties. The regional parties in some States are dividing themselves owing to personal issues. The BJP is working to strengthen the country. 'Because matter became public?': Priyank Kharge gets nod for US visit; says Centre took 'U-turn'

Priyank Kharge (File photo) NEW DELHI: Karnataka minister Priyanka Kharge on Saturday said the Union government has taken a "U-turn" and granted him permission for an official visit to the United States. Also Read: 'Centre curbing Karnataka's fame,' alleges Priyank Kharge; calls US trip denial by govt 'improper' Kharge also highlighted that the ministry of external affairs (MEA) revoked its earlier decision and gave him an NOC on Thursday, after his press conference that day on the issue. "So in a U-turn, the Ministry of External Affairs has now decided to revoke its earlier decision and grant me a clearance for an official visit to the United States," the Karnataka IT minister wrote on X. The Congress leader, who is the son of party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, stated that he had applied for the June 14-27 tour on May 15, and alleged that he was denied permission without any official explanation. The timing of the NOC, he added, raised "serious questions" - why was the clearance denied in the first place, was the earlier order revoked only because the matter was made public, why should he travel to the US when key events pertaining to his programmes are already over or nearing completion, and would the MEA now not explain its earlier denial because it has now granted permission for the visit. "While the Centre gives us slogans like 'Make in India,' 'Digital India', 'National Quantum Mission' and 'India AI Mission,' the real work to realise these aspirations is happening here in Karnataka. They coin the vision, but when we do the work to bring investments, create jobs and position India as a global leader - they block us," Kharge said. These questions, he added, warrant an "urgent response" as Karnataka "deserves answers."
