Investigation begins after Bihar jeweller robbed of gold in Koderma district

Koderma: The police on Tuesday said it has begun probing the robbery of 808 grams of gold, valued at Rs 80 lakh, from a Bihar based jeweller on the Koderma ghati stretch of the Ranchi-Patna highway on Monday. Deepak Kumar Gupta, who runs a jewellery store in Chapra, reported the robbery in a formal complaint with the Koderma police station on Monday. Gupta in his complaint claimed that he was returning to Chapra via road from Kolkata with one Sujit Kumar, his friend. The duo had been to Kolkata to melt old gold jewellery and purchase new ornaments. However, they were returning with 808 grams of old gold after failing to find suitable new jewellery. "Around 10 pm on Sunday, while passing through the Koderma Ghati, my car broke down. As Sujit and I attempted to repair it, two unknown individuals approached us and snatched the car keys. Soon, eight others arrived on the scene and assaulted us. Then, they forcibly took the gold. The criminals then fled towards Bihar in a vehicle," he said, adding that out of fear, he didn't report the matter to police initially. Confirming that a FIR was lodged in the case, sub-divisional police officer Anil Singh said, "The police would soon ascertain whether the gold was genuinely looted or if there is some other angle to the story. In any case, culprits will not be spared as we have started probe in this incident."

Panchkula: 2 partners of Luxmi Rice Industries booked for paddy milling fraud

Partners of M/s Luxmi Rice Industries, Barwala, have been booked for allegedly cheating the Haryana State Warehousing Corporation (HSWC) by failing to deliver the full quantity of rice due under a government milling agreement during the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2023-24. The case was registered after the company defaulted on delivering a significant portion of Custom Milled Rice (CMR) to the Food Corporation of India (FCI) despite receiving over 2175.3375 metric tons of paddy. The manager of HSWC, Ambala, on March 12, lodged the complaint against rice mill partners — Deepak Kumar Gupta and Kailash Rani — accusing the firm of violating the terms of an agreement signed on October 15, 2023, between now-retired HSWC official Somnath and Deepak Kumar Gupta. As per the agreement, the mill was required to return 67.5% of the paddy received in the form of CMR. However, by the delivery deadline of September 30, 2024, the firm had delivered only 1363.00 metric tons of CMR, against the required 1472.0509 metric tons, resulting in a shortfall of 109.0509 metric tons of CMR. The HSWC has calculated that approximately ₹3,051,990 lakh is recoverable from the rice mill, after adjusting penalties and dues as of March 6, 2025. Following the complaint, police have registered a case under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code against partners Deepak Kumar Gupta and Kailash Rani. Despite multiple notices and reminders, neither the millers nor the guarantors—Rakesh Gupta of RR Agro Foods and Yashana Dhingra of Shree Krishna Rice Mill—have responded. The HSWC has also withheld payments due to Rakesh Gupta, who is a current miller under the same procurement season.

Rlys teams up with Neeri to restore 200-yr-old historic well in Motibagh

Nagpur: The South East Central Railway (SECR), Nagpur division, has joined hands with the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (Neeri) to restore the 200-year-old well at Motibagh Colony. Once a vital water source, the iconic well had become severely polluted due to years of neglect and waste dumping. The SECR and NEERI aim to complete the restoration before World Environment Day on June 5. SECR divisional railway manager (DRM) Deepak Kumar Gupta told TOI that the well's cleaning requires technical expertise and trained manpower. "I visited the site a couple of times. We approached Neeri and planned the restoration in consultation with their scientists," he said. Gupta also mentioned that removing the muck deposited at the bottom of the well requires specialised agencies. "We have shortlisted some agencies with relevant expertise, and the contract will be awarded soon," he added. Residents say the well was once the primary water source for the locality. Pravin Dabli, a former member of the Zonal Railway Users' Consultative Committee (ZRUCC), welcomed SECR's initiative after a long gap, crediting persistent efforts by locals, including himself. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esta nueva alarma con cámara es casi regalada en Humberto Primero (ver precio) Verisure Más información Undo However, he expressed disappointment at the lack of visible progress. "Lakhs of litres of water were pumped out, but the cleaning remains incomplete," Dabli said. "The well was flushed to remove garbage and silt from the bottom, but no significant cleaning was done. No effort was made to remove plastic, mud, stones, and other solid waste," he alleged. On Sunday, Dabli claimed that cleaning work had been halted for the past 10 days, although the well has started to recharge naturally. He suggested the well could be used to water trees in the city. "Once the well is fully cleaned, it would be a significant achievement for the city," he added.
