Man, mother & wife defraud cousin of Rs 54L on pretext of occult activities

Indore: A man, his mother and wife were booked for fraud and abetment to suicide after allegedly defrauding his cousin of Rs 54 lakh under the guise of performing occult rituals and later convincing the victim to "sacrifice" herself. The accused, identified as Ritik alias Satyam Mishra, along with his mother Beena Devi and wife Purnima alias Neha Mishra, reportedly conspired to exploit the woman using superstition and emotional manipulation. Taresh Soni, Lasudia police station in-charge said that Deepa Pandey, a resident of Sky Luxuria in Nipania, alleged that Ritik, a self-proclaimed occultist and her paternal cousin, convinced her that her husband and son were under the influence of black magic. He claimed that an "evil force" was looming over the family and that it could only be removed through special rituals at temples like Mehndipur Balaji, Kamakhya Devi temple, Mahakal temple Ujjain and in Nashik. Exploiting her fears, Ritik forbade Deepa from sharing any details with others, insisting that the rituals must remain a secret. Over a period of 18 months, he continued to demand money in instalments, which was transferred into accounts belonging to his mother and wife. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Gel Makes Mold Disappear Like Magic CleanLix Learn More Undo Deepa ended up handing over her entire life savings, including jewellery, liquid cash and borrowed money from relatives—amounting to Rs 54 lakh. Mother, husband thrilled at Deepa's Booker honour for 'Heart Lamp'

BENGALURU: 'Little Deepa grew up listening to her grandmother's stories' said Sudhamani, mother of Deepa Bhasthi, the acclaimed translator of 'Heart Lamp.' A Madikeri-based writer, Deepa's fascination with stories began early--long before she became a journalist and translator. Her love for stories and writing began when she sat listening to the stories told by her grandmother. 'Deepa's grandmother used to tell amazing stories and she loved listening to them, mesmerized, and slowly falling in love with them,' she said. 'She then continued her passion for journalism at The New Indian Express,' reminisces Sudhamani. Deepa's husband, Nanaiah, has supported her throughout her journey. 'I am very happy and proud of her. She had multiple deadlines but she don't give up because she did it out of her passion. She was so immersed in it that she even started learning Urdu, to seep into the lives of the characters and to get the whole essence.'
