A FRESH Meat and Death in Paradise star has revealed her life changing health diagnosis at 39, saying she's in tears and 'still processing.' Kimberley Nixon famously played Josie in Fresh Meat, who seemed like a very shy Welsh girl, but was actually foul-mouthed and short-tempered. 4 4 Before Fresh Meat, Kimberley had been in films Wild Child and Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging. Since the show she's appeared in Ordinary Lies, Death in Paradise and ITV drama The Salisbury Poisonings. Now, the 39-year-old actress has revealed she has been clinically diagnosed with Autism and ADHD. Sharing a collage of photos of herself crying 'happy tears,' in a grey jumper, the star shared her update with fans. Kimberley wrote: 'Happy tears. Still processing. Haven't read the full report yet but… 'Today I was clinically diagnosed with Autism and ADHD. 'I feel lighter than I have in a long time because instead of feeling like my brain is 'broken', I know now that it was just doing things differently all this time.' She continued: 'I want to go back in time and give my younger self a cwtch and save her a lot of time and heartache but I can't change anything about how I got here really because then I wouldn't be me. 'I've always shared the ups and downs - so I wanted to share this with the most compassionate and accepting bunch I know - and that's been you lot over these past few years. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is an incurable, lifelong developmental condition that affects how people perceive the world and interact with others. It affects around one in 100 people in the UK and is three to four times more common in boys than in girls. Many people with ASD find it hard to understand other people's feelings and emotions, and they may have difficulty holding conversations. When they are young, their language development may take longer and they can struggle to use facial expressions, using gestures to communicate instead. They may also find it hard to connect with other people and to hold eye contact with unfamiliar individuals. Many children with ASD like to follow a routine, and changes to this can cause distress. High functioning autism is an informal term some people use to describe those on the autism spectrum disorder. The star is a proud mum to a little boy, and also has a dog, both of which she shares occasional photos of on social media. In a sweet Father's Day post recently, Kimberley praised her partner and posted a carousel of images of him with their adorable son. She wrote: 'To the Dads who not only have a newborn but a struggling partner to care for. 'To the Dads that show up ALL the time even if they're knackered or grumpy or even more knackered. To the Dads who care so deeply but show so little. 'To the Dads that really mean it when it's 50/50. Or 60/40 or 70/30 depending what's going on in life. 'To the Dads who hug and kiss their children and leave them in no doubt how loved they are. To the Dads who always stand up for their partner. 'To this Dad, who never looked away even when things got tough. Who always saw straight through to the heart of me when I lost myself and even I couldn't see it. Who loves me and our son unconditionally but that doesn't mean he'll let us get away with stuff. 'Sometimes Dads get left out of the perinatal mental illness conversation. Father Ted star's first job was 'canning peas in King's Lynn'
The comedian Ardal O'Hanlon has revealed his first job outside Ireland was at a pea canning factory in Norfolk - crediting a local Good Samaritan with one of his most treasures memories of the time.O'Hanlon, known for his "bewildered" character Dougal in the 90s comedy, Father Ted, and later as a detective in Death in Paradise, will return to his stand-up roots to headline a new comedy night in Great Yarmouth. He told BBC Radio Norfolk how he had travelled to King's Lynn as a 17-year-old for seasonal work, adding: "I took great pride in canning peas, I'll have you know."""I was at a loose end in the summer," he added, "and am easily impressed and persuaded to do things." O'Hanlon told how he arrived in the county "on a whim", armed only with a tent."I just got on a ferry, on my own at the age of 17, got on a train to London and a train to King's Lynn," he said, "I pitched my tent in a disused barn."I rocked up at the pea canning factory the next morning and asked if they had any jobs. I lived very happily there for the whole summer."It was brilliant. A coming of age."He remembered "a great bunch of people there, locals and seasonal workers from all over the UK", adding: "It was a great formative experience."O'Hanlon also revealed that after a downpour one night, he was left "feeling miserable" as his tent was rain-soaked. "I went into a hotel in town - I had no money - wet through, and asked [the owner] if I could stay for free."People are very friendly in Norfolk. He could see I had a very honest and angelic face and how dishevelled I was, so he said okay."That was one of the kindest acts someone has ever done for me. "I just lay in bed and watched the 1984 LA Olympics. I did go back and pay him a few days later. "That's one of my treasured memories." O'Hanlon said end-of-the-pier comedy was not a tradition in Ireland as "people were afraid of the sea", adding: "People were very wary of paying to see comedy, because everyone fancies themselves as a bit of a clown".He said he was influenced by British TV and "the new wave of comedy" in the 90s and "wanted to be part of it"."It was another leap of faith," he said. O'Hanlon will headline at the Britannia Pier in Great Yarmouth on 21 June, along with comedians Justin Panks, Fiona Allen and Darius show is organised by WCB (Weird Coastal Buoys) Comedy, set up in 2012 by Paul Carlton at his local pub in Lowestoft, SuffolkThe Irish comedian will also embark on his first nationwide tour in five years, Not Himself, starting in September, with shows planned across the East, including Norwich in March 2026. Derry Girls star 'becomes latest to sign up for Celebrity Race Across the World' after Strictly couple Molly Rainford and Tyler West
A sitcom star has reportedly become the latest star to sign up for the next series of Celebrity Race Across the World. Derry Girls star Dylan Llewellyn has joined the line-up taking on the travel challenge on the popular BBC series, according to The Sun. The actor, 32, began his career with roles in some of the UK's biggest soaps, including The Bill, Hollyoaks and Holby City. However, it was playing only boy and Englishman James Maguire, on beloved comedy Derry Girls that saw him shoot to fame. Dylan then took on the lead role in comedian Jack Rooke's semi-autobiographical Channel 4 series Big Boys for three seasons, playing a closeted uni fresher grieving the loss of his father. Speaking about the show to Attitude: 'Everything about it was beautiful to me. I really wanted the part and to tell Jack's story as best I could. I'm really proud to be in it.' He also starred in 2022 miniseries Pistol, playing Wally Nightingale, who formed a band with schoolmates Paul Cook and Steve Jones in 1972, but was replaced by Johnny Rotten when they transformed into the Sex Pistols. And since February 2023, Dylan has starred as PC Kelby Hartford in Beyond Paradise, a spin-off of the hit show Death In Paradise. He will allegedly be taking a break from studio sets to race across continents in the gruelling Race Across the World special, with a teammate and no mobile phones. Representatives for the show declined to comment when approached by MailOnline. The last series of the celebrity version of the series saw Kelly Brook, Scott Mills, Jeff Brazier and Kola Bokinni face off against each other as they dashed across South America. Dylan's casting for the new series could see him joined by Molly Rainford and Tyler West, who were reported to have also signed up last week. The EastEnders actress, 24, and the broadcaster, 29, who met during BBC 's Strictly Come Dancing in 2022, are said to be taking on the travel challenge together. A source told The Sun: 'Molly and Tyler are a huge coup for the show. 'They're popular with millions of viewers from their stints on Strictly, and Molly will bring in loads of EastEnders fans too. 'They are a very adventurous pair and have brilliant chemistry, so bosses are confident they will become huge fan favourites.' Last year, Molly and Tyler moved into their first home together and began sharing their home improvements journey with their followers. Alongside a clip of the couple inside their new home and in the 'Strictly' ballroom doing a clapping routine, Molly wrote on Instagram: 'Well guys, it was only right that we let you into our little home, the next part of our journey starts now @homewithmolty.' At the end of the clip, Tyler quipped: 'We've got a lot of cleaning up to do babe.' After previously denying speculation they were dating, the pair posted a TikTok with Tyler seen placing his hand on Molly's leg as they recited lines from 'Friends'. After failing to win BGT when she was 11 years old, Simon and his record label sponsored her to go to the coveted Sylvia Young Theatre School.
